In a vast fast food wasteland, on a long road filled with McDonalds’s, Burger King’s, Sheetz, and other food /gas stations, Kwik-Shoppe Drive in is like a mirage in the desert. Okay– so it’s not exactly fine dining– however Kwik Shoppe is a locally owned place with lots of character. I felt right at home when I walked in, and it reminded me of many roadside stops that unfortunately has gone under since the sprawling out of chains restaurants across America, that now you can only read about in books about Americana or Quentin Tarantino movies. I ordered a very exciting combo –burger, fried and a coke. A combination that, although simple is easy to screw up. The burger was very good and tasted fresh and the fried could be have been better but as I drove a way eating the rest of my fries and sipping on my coke, I was glad that I drove a little further, passed up the fast food and stopped here. When in Shoemakersville on Rt 61, pass up the corporate owned McBurgers and give Kwik-Shoppe a try.
