Sense Nail Spa

It’s obvious by the photos and reviews that Sense focuses on gel nail manicures, art and other gel services. I would advise that if you want just a regular manicure or to remove a hard gel set, to NOT go near here.
A few weeks ago, I got a hard gel manicure from an amazing boutique shop in the north end. I quickly learned that long, artificial nails weren’t for me, but unfortunately, they book up fast and their hours were limited so I had to find somewhere else to get them removed quicker. I got online to do some searching for seemingly quality salons that knew about hard gels. Enter: Sense.
I tried to book an appointment online with a technician that multiple people seemed to really like based on reviews. I’ve had bad luck with nail shops so I tried to do as much research ad possible. Sense seemed perfect, and I was excited to potentially have a nail shop I actually like.
When I realized I booked the wrong type of service and contacted them to get it changed, they changed my technician to June. I really wanted someone I had heard good things about, but I also understand that different types of services take longer than others, so I would deal with it. Everyone seems to love Sense so it couldn’t be that bad, right?
When I arrived, I was first taken aback by how cramped the front nail area was. All the ambiance must be in the back with the pedicure stations. While Robert was friendly and professional, I couldn’t say the same for every technician that was working (but that’s another can of worms).
I told my nail technician twice that there were no acrylic nails or tips underneath — gel only. I still had to remind her again as she began filing, looking for a tip. She eventually got out the nail clippers to clip the long parts off, and was kind of haphazard with it. Some of the clipping would hurt, but the worst was watching the gel fly all over the salon — I looked down at one point to see I even had some gel remnants on myself. It was kind of embarrassing in that small of a space seeing something that just had been sitting on my nails now on the floor in the waiting space.
She continued to do a combination of filing and acetone until my nails were filed down. Most of her tools looked like she had either used them before on other people (hand file) and I had no indication that any of the other tools she used were sanitized before using them on me. I did notice she used acetone to clean my gel color off her tools, but I don’t know if that’s a proper sanitation technique. She also cut my cuticles, which is a no-​no to me. I understand some people accept or like it done, but I would ask before you start cutting up someones cuticles.
She asked if I wanted a manicure with polish after the removal before we started and I said yes. The manicure, like the removal, was very rushed and to dry my nails, she put my hands in a dryer with heat. In my experience, heat is not the best tool to dry regular polish with, because it takes forever to fully set. She got up and walked away without a word and I sat there for over 20 minutes wondering if it was up to me when I left or not. After close to 30 minutes, and after Robert had returned to the front desk after a long while, I decided to get up and go because it didn’t seem like she was coming back and I just wanted to get out. I paid, and went on my way. It wasn’t the best experience, but at least my nails were back to normal length.
When I got home, I noticed one of my nails already had polish smudged from not fully drying. I also noticed once I was home that bubbles had formed on almost every one of my nails and there was paint on my skin. During the manicure I remembered the method of getting excess paint off my fingers was digging a pointed orange wood stick into my skin and scraping it off (ow!!), and after all that, there was still polish?
I was emailed after my appointment asking for my feedback and I gave it honestly. I didn’t receive any comments back about the service. If I were a business owner, I’d want to know all the information and try to make it right instead of ignoring it.
The last straw was when I went to remove the polish last night, I realized there was STILL hard gel chips left on my most of my fingers! Totally unacceptable! I was given a discount since it was my first time there, but I still don’t even think the discounted cost makes up for the fact that I didn’t get a FULL removal or what I would consider a professional manicure.
For the cost of their services (does anyone really know what they are since they aren’t listed anywhere?), you might be better off going to Gene Juarez or some other higher end salon where you know you’ll feel more comfortable and treated well.

Had my nails done today by Daniella. Iam absolutely rubbish at choosing designs but she blew me away with her hand drawn art! Super friendly and lots of colours and choice. I had my acrylics sculpted and they are flawless. I’ve had my nails done religiously for 7 years now and these are the best I’ve ever had! Well worth the price and now a membership owner too! Also you can book online, how handy!

Great nails but sketchy auto monthly payments. Would suggest bringing lots of cash to this place. Also ridiculously hard to book.
Please book ahead of time online way in advance.

This is the nail spa I go to when I want nail art. I bring in ideas and collaborate with them, and I always come out satisfied with how my nails look! I have had every nail tech work with me and I’ve had very pleasant experiences with the staff — they truly are talented. There is a monthly membership program that can earn points towards different services. Due to traffic/​time I can’t frequent Sense as much as I’d like, but I know where to go when I want some fun nails for special occasions.

I have been a Sense client for many years now and have always had a wonderful experience and some really fun nail art! Sense is a clean, inviting nail spa with talented professionals who are always updating their skills/​techniques. Whether it is the latest trends in nail art or a nice relaxing pedicure, I would highly recommend making Sense your go to for nail services!

Amber did a fantastic job on my gel nails application, she sculpted them using no tip as I prefer.
I’m really excited to have my nails designed this Saturday, they are super talented with art design!
It’s clean and free if chemical smells and they are all very friendly.

I love their professionalism. And how clean it is! Its not very crowded! Love the nail work they do! This will be where i do my nails from now on

I am beyond pleased with the professionalism and talent of this business. I got hard gels about a week ago and they are beautiful, and were done with lots of care, explanation (regarding sculpted hard gels vs. sculpted acrylics) and talent.
I had a slight misunderstanding regarding prices and they went above and beyond to correct it and any future misunderstandings by implementing a suggestion on pricing that I made! I’m so impressed! Top notch talent and business ethics! I highly recommend and look forward to going back! If you want high quality nails with a staff that can make your requests come true and more, then go here!

Me n my coworker decided to try out a new nail salon close to r job so we ended up here as soon as we walked in I noticed there was no price chart so I ask the guy at the front desk but he didn’t respond so I looked at my friend n said watch are nails be 500 bucks we joked. So then they call me up to a table even tho my friend should of been first cause she made apt. Strange… The First Lady I had put astone cotton balls on my nails with foil around them to get the fake nails off as I sat there no one talk to me which was strange cause they were white Americans till the guy at the desk asked if I would like water then he brought me a glass. After they started on my friend I had a different young lady name Daniella do mine as I sat there having my fakes took off this lady did not make any convo with me but she was very chatty with everyone else kind of annoying the couple of times she soil to me was to say omg this nail stuff is so sticky I don’t know what they used but it’s like gummy bears n jelly fish are words she use she then commented on how she liked my hand bone structure. But dissed me on my previous nail polish I had used on my nails saying that it stained them n they looked like dead peoples nails. I just keeper quit cause I was so uncomfortable when it was time to pay I handed my debit card to the guy at the desk he says it’s 67.00 dollar I look at my friend thinking does he think in paying for u too n he says u had removal n gel polish right I say yes he say 67.00 I pay n then ask if tip is included he points at the counter n there’s a tip chart to how much u should pay I tipped 10% @ 5.50. As I walked to my car n waited till me firend payed n came out I just thought to my self how the hell can u charge almost 70.00 bucks for nail services wow that’s crazy my firend got in to my car n was like we are never coming back here again her price was the same as mine but she had got fakes put on. They seem like a nice place in a way but no place is worth that much my normal place I go cute nails charges only 10buck for removal n 25 for fakes n gel n u can get a design too. I’m very disappointed with this salon I will not be returning or telling my friends good things! Lower your prices, or post a price chart so people can choice if they want to stay n pay or leave!!!

After neglecting my feet during winter, I knew it was time. It was time to make an appointment for a pedicure and I settled here for my first foray into foot care!
They have easy online scheduling here or you can call for an appointment. My online appointment was confirmed the next business day. With my confirmation, I received a message about sending along any nail art I might be interesting in having done on my toes. I appreciated that even though I don’t do nail art.
I arrived to the spa and was greeted warmly by Robert at the front desk. Amber was my nail technician and she showed me back to the luxurious pedicure area. There was a long padded bench with throw pillows and three foot basins with jets. The water was already drawn in my basin and I was the only one getting a service that day so we had the whole back to ourselves.
I chose the hour-​long Spa pedicure which included:
— Trim and shape nails
— Cuticle buffing with rose oil application
— Exfoliation
— Nail strengthening base coat
— Two coats of polish plus top coat
— Massage
— Callus work with foot file
— Hydrating mask with hot towels
— Chocolate/​seasonal scrub upgrades
From start to finish, Amber was friendly and professional. She took excellent care of my sorely neglected feet. I kept apologising for how awful they looked and she shrugged it off, assuring me that she had seen worse. I appreciated the reassurance. Toward the end of my service, Amber was called away to do some complex nail art. Our time had run long because we were chatty and June took over the remaining massage and polish application. I enjoyed my service so much that I’ve already made another pedicure appointment to see Amber again so I can keep those calluses at bay!
Music was unobtrusive and thankfully not new agey. Parking was easy and directly in front of the building. It is important to mention that the building is not accessible to those who cannot ascend 5 – 6 exterior stairs. I am unsure if you can enter the building from the back on the same floor but it might be worth a call ahead to inquire if you cannot do stairs.

I went here the first time I tried gel manicures about 4 years ago. The technician took her time and did an amazing job. I went back to get it removed and reapplied when it grew out. I didn’t realise just how amazing until I went to other places and saw my nails get horribly mistreated.
I haven’t been back in a while because I no longer get gel manicures and it’s not that conveniently located for me. If you get on their email list they send discounts every so often.
It’s spendier than many other nail salons but you do get what you pay for.

I have come here twice for a pedicure & shellac manicure. I was the only person in both times :) it was a dream. The lady working was super friendly & talkative. She did a nice job. Only down fall is you’ll spend a little more here but they use more organic products so it’s worth the extra price :)

Oh my gosh, I love this place. I’ve been getting my nails done for a long time, and Victoria is one of the best. She’s amazing with nail art. She’s always so helpful with picking out what works with your style and your vision. I’ve been going here for a year now and I wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else. Maybe it’s just the places I’ve lived before (Arizona and Hawaii), but the prices at this salon are on par with other salons I’ve gone to and their work meets or exceeds all of the other places I’ve been to.
My wedding nails were an absolute dream and I’m going to have to find some pictures to post on here! They were a lovely mint green color with pearls and holograms and glitter! Not too busy, but just enough to make them feel really special for that big day :)
I have gel acrylic nails (not the shellac gel polish, acrylic that’s liquid instead of powder) and this is the best application I’ve ever had done. My nails aren’t super bulky anymore, and they still have the strength I need. Victoria is really great about making your set easily fillable if you want to keep the same color you chose. She also will sandwich gel polish between your gel acrylic so you have a TON of color options. Combined with her oodles of glitter choices you can be as colorful and sparkly as you want.
I’m so bummed to read the review from the lady who had back luck with her pedicures! I’ve gotten a number of them and it always seems like you need a jack hammer to get the polish off. Mine have never chipped before 4 weeks, but I do also wear closed toed shoes a lot.
I love that I can manage my account and appointments online. That is really really important to me. They also have a rewards program that you can sign up for to get discounts on products and services. I’m also in their membership program which saves me a bit of money since I go there every two weeks for a fill.
The salon itself is a little small, but super clean and doesn’t have that horrible chemical smell. Everyone is really friendly and always willing to lend a hand to get you something to drink, or prep you for your appointment if they’re not helping another client.
The only downside to this place is that their parking lot can be a bit difficult to maneuver. Try to park in the front though and you’ll be just fine!

Had an amazing experience at Sense Nail Spa! My french gel manicure look absolutely stunning! Will definitely be returning!

I’ve been coming here for years and love that I can get something as simple as french tips or complicated as a gradient gel polish and they’re always happy to help. They’re willing and able to give advice for trying something new or suggesting a new design for a fun trip to Vegas.

Let me preface this review: Pedicures done at salons or by myself at home stay without chipping for 3 – 4 weeks. Easy.
The atmosphere is wonderful here. It is always quiet, staff is friendly and always offers a beverage. They are clean, and there is not a heavy chemical smell.
I’ve gone here for a pedicure 3 times. Each time is worse than the previous. My toes don’t last 1 week without chipping. I’m not sure what it is– the base coat, top coat?! I don’t know. However, due to this, I will not go back. Included in this, is the price. They are, in my book, a lot more expensive than I would expect. And the fact that my toes chip so quickly… It isn’t worth the $ to me.
*I’ve only ever gone there for pedicures. Never manicures or shellac.

I have been going to Sense for a few years now for gel polish and waxing. I have zero complaints.
Sense is a family owned business and they genuinely care about their work product and clients. I feel as if I am treated like family — with sincere care and concern. They are not a pretentious or stuffy shop — just easy going and great people and work product.

Great job on my manicure and gel polish! Good attention to detail; my nails looked great with no uneven spots or weird edges. Nice spa atmosphere inside as well. Prices are a little higher than other places but the products and service were top quality. Plus you can join their club to get 30% off manis and pedis — worth it if you go twice a month.

This salon is fantastic. Very nice on the inside, don’t let the exterior fool you. They got me in very fast and were so nice to work with. Sent an email reminder. They do a lot of gel and shellac and know their stuff! Highly recommend!

Came here for their gel polish nails on my hands and acrylic on my toes.
Had my feet done first, oh their chairs and water massauge are soo comfy. Finger nails took awhile, but I’m impatient. Though the lengthy hardening process was worth the wait because they lasted weeks without issues.
The only odd thing, I was being told that my husband would leave me if I don’t put effort into my appearance… and I was about to get married in two days, yeah, something I want to hear days before Im getting married. :$ On top of that, the lady working my toes decides to show me a parade of pictures of herself, ummm, I don’t care, I just want to read. If it looks like I dont want to converse, I don’t.
First impression: Ehh, Still not sold on getting nails done in the first place for that price.
