What’s not to love about exquisite chinese armoirs, desks, chair, lamps, the whole kit and kaboodle for a fancy house in Whitefish Bay? That sounds snotty, but I love it. Really, I do. And it’s not all outrageous. The fact that Alicia Urban, young, beautiful, brilliant Alicia grew this business while working a corporate job gives me hope and makes me want to wander in in hopes of catching some of her smarts – osmosis, that works, right? I discovered Elements East ten years ago in its first location in downtown Milwaukee. She was open, January 2, 2000. That’s dedication. I couldn’t afford a thing, but admired this bright-eyed blonde– a stark contrast to a once-blonde blonde(that’s me) exploring the store in hippy clothes and wild hair after ringing in the millennium across the street at the Metro Hotel. I thought to myself – «I can open a chi-chi store…» Well. perhaps not Elements East Style… Alicia speaks Mandarin – hence the great deals she gets – she’s scout, middleman, and retailer in one. A far cry from my life as chief cook and bottlewasher. Which is why I love Alicia and Elements East. It’s a trip down fantasy lane in so many ways. For now, it gives me great ideas on how to copy the look. More to come on what works for my budget. Must do lunch with Alicia.
