This is the best muffy in the state by far! I have been eating here since I was a kid and this is one of my favorite places to eat. The staff is great and always friendly. I have eaten many muffulettas all over(New Orleans) and not one matches up.

Love this place. Family staff was friendly. It is like eating in someone’s home. Bare bones pizzas and muffulettas which were delicious. My husband and I split the large muffuletta which was more than enough food. Great historical feel good place!

Seriously? Who’s writing these reviews? I must be missing something. We just ate there. Some may call the place«vintage», I call it «old & dirty»! There was a dead roach on the not so nice bathroom floor, chairs were taped together with packaging tape, a trash can sat n the eating area and was very dirty. Watching the family cooking in the kitchen was troubling. A cookie sheet fell on the floor and was not cleaned before placing it back with the others. I could say more but will now talk about the quality of the food. We had a Muffaletta. It was edible but not as good as the previous reviews stated. The relish was okay but not great and the meat was not quality meat. There was a lot of mustard on the sandwich. First time I’ve had a Muffaletta with mustard… not good. Honestly, I could have enjoyed the sandwich had it not been for the condition of the place. I think this place must be a neighborhood tradition. It’s been there a very long time. However, just because your place is old, it does not have to be dirty.

Hubby and I travel full-time in our motorhome and always try the local cuisine at our current location. Although Muffulettas may be more well known in N’Awlins, they’re a staple in Louisiana so we thought we’d try theirs. After checking Unilocal for opinions on the best Muffulettas, we found this place. And boy was everyone right! Yummy bread, toasted perfectly, loaded with meat, cheese, and their wonderful olive salad! We ordered the large sandwich to split, but couldn’t eat it all! Small menu with huge flavor!

Passing through from Austin to Birmingham. Stopped in for a muffy based on Unilocal reviews. What a treat. Nice people and delicious food. Planning a do-over on the way home.

Best muffaletta on the planet — puts the ones in New Orleans to SHAME! Don’t forget to grab a pint(or 7) of their olive salad to make your own at home.

I walked in to be warmly welcomed by the Fertitta family and they explained to me how things work. Order what you want, grab some chips and a drink if you want and have a seat. Well, lets start with the Italian Sweet Mint Ice Tea. This totally brought back memories for me when I was a kid and my Grandma would make it for us kids. It is off the charts amazing! Please do yourself a favor and bypass the fridge filled with standard beverages that you can buy anywhere and treat yourself to this. Then they brought me their signature muffuletta. So, I’ve had a few of these in my time on this planet but I’ve never had one as good as this. The balance of everything is just perfect! The bread is toasted and the cheese melty and the olive salad was not overpowering as some can be. I will def be going back here for their meatball sandwich which I have been told is awesome as well! Be sure to pay attention to when they are open so you aren’t disappointed. All in all an amazing experience for this boy from Queens :)

Simply awesome sandwhich! The muffy is too big to eat in house with even two ppl… lol. It makes an awesome take home reheat. This was a great little dive and in an awesome historical building!

OMB! Oh my Buddha, for those of you who are not in the know. We needed a quick lunch before heading out to Dallas, so we stopped here. Fun little place with a damn good muffy! The olive salad was spiced just right, not too salty. And we had some homemade sweet iced tea. Delish all around and everyone was super nice! Stop by if you have some time :)

The MUFFY is great. Laid back atmosphere and a place that you can tell has fed many people who’ve left happy. I’ll come back when I’m in town next.

Had the Muffy Sandwhich for 2, and I can honestly say it was perfect! The owner and his wife came to our table and talked food and life. The atmosphere is perfect! Prices are fare.

Meh… Feritta’s is famous for their muffaletta, which is about the size of a basketball, but has the flavor of a cracker. The olive salad they make is actually quite decent, but the rest of the sandwich is less than spectacular(not terrible, but it doesn’t live up to the hype). The operation keeps bankers hours and is located in one of the more run down neighborhoods. Go once, enjoy the old Italian architecture, but there isn’t a whole lot of reasons to return. If you want the best muffy in Shreveport, go to the little old«Papas» on East Washington(off of Youree)…and, hey, they’ll actually be open.

This place has been on my «To Try» list for a while. I finally came here a few weeks ago. Food(8.5÷10) = Ordered«the Muffy.» As mentioned by previous Unilocalers, this sandwich is delicious and definitely worth a try especially if you live around the area. Besides the bread, the identity of this sandwich lies with Fertitta’s olive mix(«olives, pickled vegetables, celery, and other spices in olive oil»). The ingredients of the olive mix are fresh, and don’t overpower the other elements of the sandwich. I can’t remember what cuts of meat they use or the different cheeses that were in my sandwich. I just remember what’s important = the Muffy was awesome. Their«Italian mint tea» is refreshing and goes well with the sandwich. Ambiance(9.0÷10) = There’s a sign outside that states, «This property has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places in the United States Department of the Interior 1927.» This place definitely has history, and stepping into this building is like entering a time capsule. Take a look at the pictures, the signs, and the architecture. There are some elements that may remind you of a really old movie. Haven’t seen many places like this around here. Fertitta’s is truly unique. The Delorean to Shreveport’s past. Service(8.0÷10) = Southern Hospitality. Overall Opinion = I always prefer unique local businesses over annoying chain establishments which unfortunately suffocate this city. This place has been open for decades, which should tell you that this family is doing things right. If you’ve been in Shreveport for a while now(like Billy Joe J.) and haven’t tried the Muffy, head over to Fertitta’s for a great sandwich and experience some local history.

I just added this place to my Shreveport eatery tour for anybody from out of town that comes to visit me. We don’t do chains or anything on my tour, it’s all local and all real when you come my way. Also on the tour: Herby K’s, Southern Maid Doughnuts on Hearne(Yes, Hearne, and only on Hearne!) Counter Culture on Kings(The Counter Culture!) and Superior Bar and Grill, Southfield Grill, among others… Oh, I got ‘em lined up! You will get fat and drunk on this trip, is what I tell people… Okay, so I like it when a guy like me(who thinks he knows it all-at least when it comes to Shreveport stuff) can get schooled from time to time. Case in point, I(cringe) had never, ever been to Fertitta’s before this past Monday… I know! I know! I don’t know how this happened but it did! Thirty-some-odd years in this one place and I never had been here before. I know. I am ashamed. I am. Especially after devouring the best muffaletta that I have ever had in my entire existence of being! Fertitta’s, whose building is on the National Historic Registrar, is also one of the neatest, most genuine, coolest, hippest, realest places in which I have ever consumed food. How’s that? I felt like I was in Little Italy in Chicago. This place is just awesome in every sense of the word, all the way around. I loved it, loved it, loved it! Far beyond the delicious muffy and the mint iced tea, I loved the whole experience and the age and wisdom of the place. I am sorry it has taken me so long to visit, but I will be back, again and again and again. This place, on my own stomping grounds, in my own hometown, made me feel like a tourist… I will be back and next time, I’m bringing friends!

WOW! I came to town on business and like to find the hyper-local and non-chain places to go. One of the local guys said ‘do I have the perfect place for you!’ We drove down off a downtown side street and down a little hill to an old building with a worn sign out front. We walked in the door and the fresh Italian warmth just grabs you. Fertitta’s is home of the Muffy and great people. The Muffy sandwich was the accidental brainchild of Sam R Fertitta and is called the Muffy because it was too expensive to put Muffaletta in neon. We even had the opportunity to meet Agatha(Third Generation) and her husband, who run the place and they were kind enough to give us the history. It was fascinating. I look forward to going back. Thanks
