Sears has been around since the pioneering days, at least I think so, but as with everything else, even the pillars of American business change with the times. But not always for the better. Case in point: There is no more candy/nut/popcorn/icee kiosk located on the first floor of this store anymore. Sad, sad, sad. Anybody else remember that place? It is firmly embedded in my mind for all days to come. I still remember the divine scents and the exact location of that delightful little stand inside this store. Another big change, is that the magnificent building in Chicago that once proudly bore its’ name, bears it no longer. What was once the Sears Tower, is now the Willis Tower? What you talkin’ ’bout Willis… Sorry, had to do it. This store used to seem so huge to me, and now it just seems small, and old and dated. Even rickety. Other than the awesome candy kiosk being gone, little has changed since I picked up a Dragnet-the movie, t-shirt here in like ’86 and my entire first bedroom bedding set here in like ’95. In a way that’s cool and in a way that’s depressing. My sheets have changed more than this store has in over a decade. But I still love Sears as a store.
