Sleepy’s

Ill make this short and sweet! Ordered my bed from a Sleepy’s in Millburn/​Short Hills location. The gentleman I ordered fom was rude and seemed like he didn’t want to be bothered or disturbed. Fast forward some weeks later. I gave my Tempur-​pedic bed over 30 day try out with nothing but lower back pain. I called their hotline to tell them it’s not happening and was told I will receive a call within the next few minutes. I did, but then after was told again I will receive another call from a different agent regarding pick up and availability to pick up. I gave them a full week for a return call to no avail and decided to call myself and was given the same excuse and apology to be going through the same process all over again. Which now brings me to Sleepy’s at Shrewsbury!
First off –the greeting –I received from Nancy W. was amazing! She completely went out of her way to show me each and every bed that she had available. Not only that– another member of her team started her shift. Debbie Ott and joined on in helping me find the perfect bed for my needs. They both answered all my questions– got on the phone with headquarters about my refund and just totally went all out for me. I’ve never had such a warm and wonderful feeling at a store. At first– I decided to never step foot again at another Sleepy’s after my refund but after this visit– they changed my mind. Also– if I may add… After a few minutes on each bed Debbie Ott recommended a bed that not only fit my budget but wouldn’t kill my back– well after two days my Back no longer aches and Im completely satisfied with my purchase and all the help from these two fine ladies.

Just bought my second bed from Sleepy’s.
Bed’s have to be «thee» most difficult item to comparison shop. Manufacturers purposely name beds with the exact same specifications (other than maybe the decorative fabricused on the outside) different for each retailers. Meaning you can’t go to Macy’s, or JC Penny’s or Sleepy’s or any other bed shop with one specific make/​model and compare the prices in each store. None of them will have it! It sucks, and should be outlawed.
That said, I can’t tell you «what a great deal I got» compared to the other mattress stores I went to! What I can tell you is this:
«To be forewarned is to be forearmed». Be ready, willing and able to negotiate the price of everything! That includes the base price of the mattress, the box spring, delivery, removal of your old bed, and any mattress cover or pillows you may be talked into.
A word on mattress covers… Regardless of the term (# of years) of your warranty, if you get any stains on it, the warranty is void!!! So get a mattress cover that will prevent the mattress from being stained. Sleepy’s will try to sell you their «Dri-​tec» mattress cover. At about $ 140 retail, depending on the size of the mattress, it’s pretty pricey compared to what you can buy at a store like Bed, Bath & Beyond. If you buy their «Dri-​tec» cover, Dri-​tec will «supposedly» pay for a new mattress, if needed, even if it stains through. So take that for what it’s worth.
Now… a word on pillows: They want you to buy their special «the way you sleep» (or somethig like that) pillow. You buy the pillow for the way you sleep (whether you sleep on your back, front or side). Do yourself a favor… Don’t waste your money!!!
I’m a big guy. 6′-2″, 300lbs with wide shoulders. I sleep on my side. So I bought the «Side Sleeper» version. Now any chiropractor will tell you, a man my size, who sleeps on hs side, needs a pillow which doesn’t allow the head to drop too low before it is supported by the pillow. The neck/​back need to «remain in alignment», as it were.
This pillow was so high that my head was being pushed up thereby straining my neck. I lasted 30 minutes then grabbed my old pillow out of the closet.
The killer? I took the pillow out of the original wrapping… can’t return it. There’s almost $ 80 bucks down the drain! Lesson learned: if you want to «try» it at home, don’t take it out of the wrapper. This way if you don’t like it, you can return it. But make sure you cover the plastic wrapping so you don’t suffocate will ya?!!
But I found a way to salvage some of my money. I opened a seam, took out about 20% of the poly fill, and sewed it shut. Feels great! Not bad, eh?
All in all, they delivered when promised, and I would recommend them. …just be prepared to negotiate.
