Pick a nice day, bike or drive into this beautiful little village, and stop in to eat outdoors-a fantastic sandwich. Quiet, fresh ingredients, very nice breads… nothing fancy, but just good. Love to lunch here.

I consider myself extremely lucky that when my parents go up to Nantucket they stay out in ‘Sconset, far from the madding crowd, and for me any way to avoid having to venture into town is a saving grace. Some days, especially coming back from the cliff walk or the beach, I just want to grab a quick sandwich instead of having to go home and scrounge for lunch, and on those days I’m immensely grateful for Claudette’s(especially in the fall after the ‘Sconset Market has closed for the season). I do wish I had a choice of breads other than whole wheat, which A) has never been my favorite, and B) pales in comparison to the ubiquitous Portuguese bread that’s the island’s trademark, especially given the $ 10.50 price tag. My most recent sandwich was hearty and filling, huge slabs of meatloaf with cheese and a tasty mustard/mayo spread, but the whole thing felt cold as though the ingredients had just come out of the fridge instead of being fresh on-hand. All that being said, it was still delicious and enormous. I won’t be buying every lunch in ‘Sconset here, but for an occasional change of pace this is a good place for some tasty eats.

This is a cute little place in the center of Sconset. The bus stop is in front and some parking spaces exist on the street. They have a nice porch with seating for about 20 people. If you can’t find a seat, the beach is only a 5 minute walk. Although it is pricey, you don’t come to Nantucket for bargain priced restaurants. For a lunch of 2, plan to spend about $ 30(sandwich, chips, drink). It’s a cash or check only place. The sandwiches are plenty big enough for 2 and come with a variety of toppings for a small place(carrots, cucumbers, onions, tomatoes and cheddar cheese). Their house dressing has a nice tang which the sandwiches need. The bread is hearty and not too dry. The roast beef is good(note: the meat is a bit on the dry side) as are the turkey salad and turkey sandwiches. Their lemon pound cake is also delicious(definitely very sweet especially the crust). I like to stop here after a long bike ride to refuel. A definite try for this side of the island!

It costs a lot of money to get provisions onto Nantucket, so especially once you’re out of the town proper, there’s every excuse to offer a mediocre product at a high price. There’s just no competition. But Claudette’s does very well for the food quality and is really not a bad stop should you find yourself on the east end of the island. The sandwiches are definitely overpriced, but made fresh as you order. The desserts are baked there and are delicious, and actually not a bad deal at all pricewise. The staff was friendly and patient, even with a bit of humor. If you have some time while waiting for the next bus, I definitely recommend dropping by here. I’m glad I did.

My husband and I stopped in for breakfast a couple mornings while staying in Sconset this week. I had egg sandwiches and he had muffins. Both were great. The coffee was a bit weak for our liking, but did the job. Customer service was excellent both days. Outside seating was really cute.

I had one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in a long time. My friend & I decided to split the roast beef sandwich with the works, it was awesome, & glad we split, lots of roast beef, it was delicious. Picked up a beer from the market next door & sat on the porch on a beautiful day!

Sandwiches at Sconset’s Claudette’s café boring and overpriced and NONE available hot: have microwaves hit the East Coast yet? Meatloaf with cheese served COLD is deplorable!

Just plain good. Sandwiches were good, prices were reasonable for Nantucket, and its really only one of two places in ‘Sconset so it was a relief that is was good. It was a little cramped outside but we didn’t have to wait long and its right up the street from the beach.

Claudette’s is super convenient if you are just stopping by Sconset. $ 9, but the sandwiches are enormous, stuffed with super fresh veggies, the house sauce is nice, and the wheat bread is soft and tasty. They also sell many flavors of Nantucket Nectars and Cape Cod chips to round out your meal. The sandwiches come out of pretty quickly and the staff is nice. Also, as an added convenience, the beach is a very short walk from the shop.

In the not too distant future of teleportation and personal flying cars, Claudette’s will probably be bumped down to a 2-star rating. In 2010, however, convenience plays an important role. Why travel all the way into town when there is a perfectly capable sandwich to feed your hunger right there in ‘Sconset? Yeah it’s $ 9 and you can probably get a better sando for less somewhere else, but with the cost of transportation, this isn’t really that bad of a deal. It’s also a really great sandwich, meaty and thick – it’s better than most you will find on Broad Street. The biggest downer is definitely the hours. Claudette’s closes between 3−4pm everyday at a seemingly arbitrary time within that range. I can’t tell you how many times I have been thwarted by this. I mean, come on, you can’t possibly be making enough cash in 4 hours everyday to stay in business on Nantucket. Just stay open for a few more hours and make more money. That’s what I would do! I guess if you do live on the other end of Milestone, there probably is not much use for Claudette’s. Oh well, they probably didn’t want your business anyways.
