I can’t say enough about my experience at the Red Moose café. Good food and excellent service. There aren’t many businesses open this time of your in Sierra City but it’s good to know that at least this place is more than acceptable. I’ll definitely return!

New owners have done a great job to not only be welcoming but a great meal and service too. They have a PCT«special that looked pretty tasty but opted for the eggs over easy and the Goldminer Scramble. Delicious. With the new deck almost in can’t wait to be back

We’ve been in Sierra City all week, which happened to coincide with their soft opening. Our first meal there was breakfast on the 1st, and we liked it so much that we decided to go back several other times. Since they’re only open 7am — 2pm, the last time we ate lunch there, we got to-go orders to eat for dinner! We give an enthusiastic thumbs-up for everything we ate: — Southwest Scramble — Hashbrowns — Home Fries — «Moose Burger» — Fries — Fish & Chips — Garden Salad w/grilled chicken — Club Sandwich Steve and family were very friendly, and service was great. We were happy to give a new local place our business and will happily go back on future visits to Sierra City!

#sierracity #pacificcresttrail New owners with family atmosphere. There are tables for four, or two. Also has bar seating like a diner. Regular folks wanting to chat about anything. I’ve had the southwest scramble, moose burger, and club sandwich(pic added). Lettuce crisp, bacon crisp, tomatoes firm, bread fresh. They are open from 7 to 2 for now. The hours will expand as summer draws near. Owner says they will store PCT hiker’s resupplies for free. Please return the favor and have a meal too.

Delicious fresh fish and chips at the soft opening this week at the Red Moose Café. Open under new ownership. Steve & Jenny and Rich & Sandy are kicking it. Mouthwatering flavor, crispy French fries and homemade tarter sauce to die for. This place is a definite stop in Sierra City. Open now!

Very basic breakfast menu, but good food prepared with a lot of care. It is strictly a husband and wife operation, so I can imagine that they get pretty backed up when things get busy. They are wonderful people though, and care greatly about your experience. The space itself has a ton of character, and the prices are very reasonable. The food isn’t five star, but combined with the experience it gets top marks. If you want a more elaborate menu, Mountain Creek Restaurant directly across the street offers a lot more selection.

We came in, sat down and weren’t acknowledged in any way. Finally after 15 minutes, we got up and left. It wasn’t very crowded and the couple working the place just seemed cranky. Disappointed…

I discovered this place while hiking on the Pacific Crest Trail. Bill and Margaret ate wonderful people and give me hope for humanity. The Red Moose reminds me of an era of old when people took their time to enjoy the newspaper with a cup of coffee, a stack of flapjacks, eggs, and sausage links. Those ‘flat landers’ coming in from the city might have trouble adjusting to this slower pace, but once acclimated, they might not be too quick in heading home.

We read the reviews and decided to go. Sat down 9⁄7 for breakfast — very limited selection. Ordered pancakes(all you can eat), coffee, water comes, no ice. yuck Then, our pancakes were delivered to two other people eating. The male owner tells his wife and they all apologize to them — ignore us. Then, the wife brings us our pancakes — they were very slightly warm — barely. They must have been in some steamer like thing, because they were all wrinkled. She brings us warm syrup — about ¼ cup — no lie. We should have just said the pancakes were cold — pd. for the coffee and left and went across the street. Instead we just ate it and then she brings out 4 hot pancakes she just made and holds them out to us to get off the plate with our hands. no lie we ate a little of the hot ones, but not all because we had no syrup. We asked for our check when she brought out the hot ones and she looked at us like we were nuts — surprised that was all we wanted. We should not have eaten them, but we were in a hurry to get out on the trails and did not want to go elsewhere. Don’t go here — it’s ridiculous.

I’m currently thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail and was told that this place was an awesome stop for thru-hikers. They not only have awesome food, but Bill and Margaret rock! They have a computer for use and let hikers camp in the backyard. Whether your driving or hiking through this place is a must stop. The ribs for dinner were awesome and the«stacker» for breakfast was incredible.

We always have breakfast at the Red Moose Café every time we go through Sierra City. They’ve painted, added some new chairs, it looks real nice. The food is good — you have to try the homemade cinnamon rolls hot out of the oven. The Best! We haven’t had lunch there yet, but are looking forward to it.

can get a little bit packed during breakfast. Good big breakfast for a good price. Try the pancakes and apple sausage. They are the best.
