Shingletons Upholstery

I selected 3 stars because I’m the second, original family/​member– owner of this business. I don’t know who’s running it now, but…
Some history; the business started in 1938 by JIm Shingleton. Jim married my aunt Marie and together they built the company to an 8-​man home furnishing and decorating business, selling reupholstery, refinishing, carpets, drapes and custom decorating services. Jim and Marie retired in 1971 and my wife and I bought the company. We ran it for about 30 years and sold it to a person who in essence ruined the reputation we so assiduously maintained.
That person sold out after only 4 years of running the business down, to Roy June, a man I hired, who was as good an employee as an owner could ask for. He did marvelous work at fair prices. Sadly, the combination of the recession, financial and health problems made it necessary for him to leave the business.
I have no idea who’s running it now, if anyone at all. I do know that my aunt and uncle, my wife and I, did everything we could to establish and maintain a good relationship with our customers, which included the City of Long Beach, Long Beach State University, virtually all Kaiser Hospital in the greater L.A. area, several restaurants and best of all, residential customers. Unfortunately, Roy had to overcome the near ruination of our, my aunt and uncle and my wife and my reputation by an incompetent, during the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression.
I can only hope that whoever is running the business now can read this and pay attention to the most important things Shingleton’s stood for; our reputation and customer service.

I liked Roy the last owner of Shigleton’s. Too bad he couldn’t survive the recession. His work was tops and the prices were great. I had several pieces done.

I’ve used this place a few times. They do pretty good work, but aren’t the best at customer service. Either they don’t know how to use their answering machine, or they don’t know how to use the phone… not sure which one, but they suck at calling people back. I’ve been waiting for some chairs of mine to get done and I can’t get a hold of them to see if they’re done. Now they’re phone is disconnected… awesome.
