Having sampled most of the Chinese delivery places after moving to downtown Silver Spring a year ago… I have to say that Golden House has become one of our more consistent and reliable go-tos for delivery. Their service is lightning fast and this is despite them being farther down Georgia Ave than other restaurants I have ordered from. We have sampled a good deal of the menu and everything has always arrived hot & fresh & delivery man actually pays attention to any special notes you put about delivery to your building.(i.e. we have our own private entrance) As in every chinese restaurant, some dishes are a hit… and some are miss(some dishes with ‘crab’ had fake crab) but as long as the basics are good, you will be more satisfied than not. They have the best steamed pork dumplings of all the places we have sampled, and their Egg Drop & Wonton Soups are flavorful with good consistency & Flavor. Their Lo Meins are flavorful with plenty of meat/seafood and taste just as good the next day. The Kung Paos have been flavorful but Spicy is mild to me(as per the average American flavor palette). They have great vegetarian dishes and their combo plates have generous portions. Highly recommend the Spare Rib Combo if you want to save some money as you get generous amount of Ribs, Pork Fried Rice, and a Spring Roll for less than ordering all three of those items(which everyone needs when ordering Chinese imo). All in all… I give them a 3.5

Just bad food. I genuinely love crappy Americanized Chinese food, but Golden House is a bridge too far. The food just feels gross, like the cooks took the bare minimum to product something to put on a plate. The General Tso’s chicken was just sloppy and chewy. I’ve had my fair share of bad Chinese food, but this had no redeeming qualities. The only reason I gave the place 2 stars was because it’s fast and cheap. Also, the crab rangoons aren’t awful

Gross, greasy, took 60 mins for delivery(after saying 35). Maybe people choose this because they have vegan options? No idea, but the meat options were nasty. Szechuan beef was gristly chunks with a thin sauce, no idea what the slimy meat was in the fried rice(dark meat chicken?). Pick somewhere else.

I eat vegetarian here, and it’s quite good. The steamed vegetable dumplings are excellent – nice, thin dough and a tasty filling and sauce. The spicy faux-meats are pretty good too, especially the Gen Tso’s.

Food was decent for a carryout. Prices are reasonable. Not sure if its the same owner as the golden house in Bethesda

We called it Bad East Coast Chinese Food #BECCF way back when. It was that take-out/delivery Chinese food from the hole-in-the-wall take-out place that had the old van seat opposite the counter for customers to use while they waited for their order to be finished. Golden House was the best in the area. Period. 20+ years seems to have taken a toll(and a couple stars) from the experience Golden House provided its customers. Sadness. :*-( The current location for the restaurant is better than what they had before at the intersection of Fenton & Wayne. They have tables and matching seats where customers can sit down and eat. There is a lot more traffic on Georgia Avenue, so the greater visibility should add to the flow of customers. The parking lot is actually paved: Bonus! Unfortunately, it’s a shared parking lot, so the Seven-Eleven and Enterprise Rental cars and customers take up most of the space. Or, maybe it’s the consulate down the side street. Maybe it’s the corset store across the side street. Not sure, but if you drive to this location you may need to search for a parking space. The food is mostly Blah. There was an extra greasy feeling. Not the normal greasy feeling one might have grown up loving. No, it’s the adult, what did I just swallow, greasy feel. The flavors seemed to be absent or buried. Either way, it left a lot to be desired. I’ll give them some time and come back for another try, for now though I will not be able to walk away smiling.

I’m a sucker for some good Chinese take out but this place had terrible food. The lobster fried rice didn’t have any lobster — only over cooked crawfish. It was pretty flavorless and didn’t seem to be «fried» rice — more like steamed rice. The chicken lomein was also pretty bland. I realize it is supposed to be a healthier alternative to your typical Chinese take out but who wants flavorless food even if it’s healthier? Not me.

This is definitely the best Chinese takeout I’ve ever had. Our office orders this at least once a week. The food is hot, fresh, properly cooked and the delivery is crazy fast. It’s consistently good no matter what we order. The lunch specials are a ton of food for just around $ 6; you get an entrée, fried rice and an egg roll. It’s always our first choice when we’re on a budget.

Somehow I got this confused with Golden China, which I love. Well, I will continue to buy from Golden China because these guys didn’t turn out so well for me. The main dishes of lo mien and shrimp dish was fine. However, the cheesecake bites were expired. They were sour and 2 of the 4 were molded. Yuck! :(But the worst part was the driver. I was called super earlier than expected and all he said in broken English was, «Did you order?» I replied, «Yes.» And he hung up on me. So. I figured that it was the restaurant that called me basically just confirming the phone number. Then 20 minutes later I get an angry call from the driver, raising his voice at me, telling me he’s here and to come down to the lobby. This misunderstanding would of NEVER happened if he hadn’t just hung up on me and explained my food was ready and he was here, downstairs. Just rude.

Horrible, if I could give this place 0 stars I would. I ordered House Special Low Mein. It just had an overpowering fishy flavor, but the real turn off was the overpowering flavor of turned oil in the Egg Rolls. I couldn’t help but think that they have never properly cleaned their fryer, in like … ever …

Ordered delivery from here for the first time yesterday. I usually opt for Mayflower but we wanted to try some«vegan» options Golden House offered that other Chinese restaurants don’t. First off, the fastest delivery I’ve ever experienced. I got the email receipt at 6:05PM and they were here before 6:30PM. Granted, they are less than a mile away(0.7 according to the web site, when you place the order), but most delivery places around here are less than a mile or so away and you can expect it to take closer to an hour or slightly longer. Having delivery in less than a half hour is unheard of. Amazing! Veggie steamed dumplings were the best I’ve ever had. I may just order 20 of these next time, with the intentions of having leftovers for a 2nd(possibly 3rd) meal. Rice Noodle /Veggie Lo Mein was great. Better than regular Lo Mein. Onion Rings were tasty — comparable to Burger King, so nothing special, but they were a solid, munchie snack.

I’ve been eating at this restaurant since 2003, still top of the line for best Chinese food! Clean and good quality.

I’ve had good Chinese food and I’ve had bad Chinese food, but this is the first time I’ve ever had inedible Chinese food. This went into the trash minutes after making the ungodly mistake of taking the plastic lids off the moderately sized portions of ‘food’. The General Tso’s Chicken was extremely misrepresented on the menu, likely breaking at least 7 of the 10 commandments. In the extremely rare instances that there was actually meat between the flavorless and artificial mush-like breading, the ‘meat’ was either translucent or shades of unhealthy looking greys and blacks, indicating that no chicken was actually used in this dish. Even the sauce tasted like rotted orange juice thickened with corn starch. Similarly, the Teriyaki Chicken was nothing more than salted strips of chicken fat and skin. I assume here that they needed to use actual chicken since there is not coating of mush to hide it in, so they simply use the parts of the animal that most average individuals would carve off and toss in the trash. I would have taken pictures of these dishes, but I was worried that if I left the cover off for even another minute that it would mutate into some sort of creature that would wreak havok upon my apartment. Needless to say, I will not be wasting my money here again. The Good: The fried rice alone was edible, on par with what you would expect to be served in a hospital cafeteria — a free government run hospital — in an extremely underdeveloped third world country. Also, the delivery arrived in only about 20 minutes, I assume because the delivery man drives around with pre-made food rotting in the trunk along with the decomposing corpses of taste, flavor, and hygiene.

These people will never get my money again. By the way, they swear they are nit on Unilocal and maybe I had the wrong chinese restaurant. Im not sure they realize their picture is on the Unilocal page! Ive been ordering from them for years and they forgot to bring my order. /the young lady is very rude and comfortable. I had to go all the way to this restaurant which is only 5 minutes just to prove to them I placed an order. I will hope Unilocal removes them once I call in the Morning to get my money back.

We’ve ordered from here twice and been happy. Quick delivery(site says 45 – 60 minutes but we got it in 30 at 5:00 on a Saturday). Egg rolls were good – although maybe vegetarian? they don’t specify – as was the won ton soup. We tried Szechuan chicken, General Tso’s, and Kung pao shrimp. My 5-year-old son actually ate the broccoli out of the General Tso’s, so I’d call that a win. Would have liked a little more rice with the entrees, and a little less celery/water chestnuts in the shrimp. Otherwise, good and affordable, and I like the convenience of being able to order online.

Just got my first delivery order, and I’m a fan. It was delivered impossibly fast; ordered on grubhub and the driver buzzed my door LESS than 20 minutes later. They have an impressive assortment of vegetarian dishes — I got the orange vegetarian chicken and it was quite good. I liked that it came with brown rice too. The«vegetarian roll» was just alright — not the best spring roll around, but not terrible. Fine to push the order over delivery minimum when ordering for one. I look forward to ordering from here again.

Golden house is the ONLY chinese food place that has never given me a stomach ache. Their food lacks the fatty oil that is common place to Chinese food places. Their ingredients are obviously fresh, and you can tell it tastes much better. The food lasts a while. My go to order is a combo place with pork fried rice and boneless spare ribs. This meal last me three meals… at $ 10 for a combo plate, that’s an amazing deal. Fresh food… lots of food… and super fast delivery. Yes it may cost an extra buck but it is worth far more than that!

My household has a favorite go-to place for Chinese delivery but decided to let go for a change and try something new. We decided to go with this place based on the reviews on Unilocal. It was a Wednesday night and we needed to order something quick and weren’t able to pick up fpod. I had the flu and could barely move. At least my taste buds were still intact. My partner was going to be home a little late and delivery was our only option. So I thought, Chinese… I could get soup! We ordered shrimp with broccoli and a large wonton soup to share. I ordered on the phone. They were friendly and easy to work with. I was impressed with their vegetarian/vegan menu and if I wasn’t sick probably would have ordered something from this menu. But I really just wanted soup and to sample whatever my partner was ordering. The food arrived fairly quick. And the food was still piping hot. The wonton soup was pretty good. Probably one of the better soups I have had, but the broth itself was a tad bland. The shrimp and broccoli wasn’t bad but not the best. Smothered in too much sauce and the shrimp wasn’t de-veined which urks me. Regardless, I rated the overall food experience 3. Not the best, not the worst. Service was good. Prices were good. Otherwise, EH. I think I will be sticking to my usual place.

It was not as good as I expected. I went to get my hair done on Georgia Ave and a few of the stylists said Golden House won best General Tsao’s out of restaurants in the DC area, some award. I decided to come back and try it. We ordered: Crab Rangoons(3 stars) — too sweet in the center compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area, I did not enjoy them as much and would not order them again General Tsaos — 3.5 stars, it wasn’t too special, it was edible, but not anything to give an award out. Chicken Pad Thai — I know its a Chinese restaurant but we were curious — 2 stars, not at all like Pad Thai, flavorless and blah(get Pad Thai at Charm Thai down the block) Fried Rice(3 stars) I have had better Chinese takeout in this area. I prefer the Dim Sum restaurant next to the Giant and the Caribou coffee place much more.
