Dr. Segal saw me the day before yesterday, and I have to say that it was not under conditions that I would consider optimal. I was actually scheduled to see another doctor in his office, but that doctor was out sick, and Dr. Segal had agreed to see me in his place. I must say, however, that I was impressed by the fact that he spent quite a bit of time getting to know me, talking even about things that were not related to my medical condition, even though I had had to be squeezed into his schedule. He is the kind of doctor that makes one feel at ease. Dr. Segal shares an office with a number of other cardiologists, at least three others of whom were also listed in Washingtonian’s list of the best doctors, so let me be clear that anything I say positively about Dr. Segal should not be interpreted as negative comment about any other doctor. He is the one I saw, and he is the only one in the group that I can rate. It does seem to me that he has made certain that everyone who sees him knows how smart he is. His office not only has the usual medical diplomas and certificates on the wall; it actually shows his Phi Beta Kappa certificate from his college days! But yet, he took pains to explain everything to me.(Of course, the conversation beforehand had established that I held a Ph. D. in a hard science, so he knew he did not have to talk down to me. I cannot say how he would have treated a blue-collar worker who had never attended college!) But in my case, anyway, I was as happy with the interaction as one can be in the circumstances.
