Hertz Rent A Car

Horrible, horrible customer service, your better off going across the street to enterprise, which is what I did. I had a reservation to rent a car from hertz while my car was being repaired. I walked in while a young man waked out with a customer, the office was empty and he didn’t acknowledge me or say someone would be with me soon. A woman walked in a couple minutes later. She said I’ll be with you asked if I had a reservation, then disappeared in a back room where I heard other people talking and she proceeded to answer several calls that came in. I waited 10 minutes no one came out to assist me. I left and walked across the street. Calling my insurance company on the way to change my appt. I was in and out of enterprise within 10 minutes.

Friendly staff. Paid 16 bucks to rent a car for 4 days. Woot Woot.

FRAUD ALERT! I went to this Hertz b/​c my car was in the body shop and the insurance company only uses hertz. I think they take the $ 50 up front deposit as a trick to get your credit card info so they can continue to charge unauthorized charges to your credit card weeks/​months after you return your car. I googled online and came across a comment about a class action lawsuit about their practices. I had to cancel my bank card and the bank is in the process of reversing the charge. It’s about 3 wks after returning the rental and they charged my credit card out of the blue. I returned the car in perfect condition, they charged me for gas that day, which was fine, but THREE WEEKS LATER, i find another random charge on my card. Check your statements! they are basically stealing money our bank accounts.
While I was waiting in line (and you will wait in line, for a very very long time), someone tried to pay the $ 50 deposit in cash and they wouldn’t let him — because they can’t steal from you later on if you pay in cash!
And if you still decide to go to this place, be prepared to wait and wait and wait.

Every single detail about my experience was great, incredibly simple! At both the pickup and return of my rental vehicle I was in and out within fifteen minutes. I found the staff to be extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the business.

30 minutes+ to get in and out, even when you have a reservation. At least on weekends. That is typical here. Every transaction seems like their first. Every rental requires the desk person to leave the desk and run out back to examine the car. It’s brutal to watch. I need to fund a better option.

I’m very surprised to see negative reviews of this Hertz location — my experience here was superb. Very friendly, attentive, and quick service, a nice, clean car, and no hard sells on any extras. I couldn’t have been more pleased.

I recently bought an antique dresser out near West Virginia and needed an SUV to pick it up. Living in upper NW DC I selected this Hertz mostly for the convenient $ 5 overnight parking right behind it — I had never used them before. I booked through AAA but did have to go by and measure the back to make sure of fit. I handed over my license and was handed a set of keys to go measure — took a minute or two. The day I went to get SUV — could not have gone smoother or faster. I was in and out in about 5 – 10 minutes. Never got my rental that fast… ever. Great staff!
I have never rented an SUV and if the dresser would have fit in my Mini :) I would have used that. Never drove an SUV before (can’t say I would again unless I am in need of one to haul something) but it was comfortable and I didn’t feel completely swallowed up by it.
This is my go to car rental location now… thanks for the great service.

I had many negative experiences at the Silver Spring, MD Hertz location. To begin with, even though I made my reservation 2 months ahead of time and pre-​paid online (as a Hertz Gold member), the car I reserved was not available. I was told I would have to wait approx. 50 minutes for the car to be delivered. Since I was pressed for time, I had to argue with the manager to receive a mid-​size SUV upgrade. This was a nice upgrade, but resulted in almost a $ 100 increase in fuel costs over the course of my reservation (original res. was for a compact car with much better gas mileage).
If this were the only problem, I could have forgiven it, but I also received an unexpected $ 200 underage charge on my rental contract (even though my pre-​negotiated and prepaid CDP rate did not include it). After I explained the issue to both the staff member and manager, they both claimed that they could not do anything about the charge, and told me to call Hertz customer service (while in the store). I proceeded to have a 45 minute phone call with Hertz customer service, and ended up having the call dropped when I was transferred to a supervisor. Since I was already almost an hour late for my appointment, I left and had to have the problem resolved afterwards.
Thankfully, the woman I was speaking with on the phone was able to resolve the problem, and I did not end up having to pay the extra $ 200 fee, but the entire experience was incredibly inconvenient, stressful, and expensive.
I have never had a problem with similar Hertz reservations before, and never had such terrible service, and will strongly discourage anyone I know from making a reservation at the Silver Spring location. Thankfully Hertz corporate was able to resolve my problem, but the employees at the Silver Spring location were unable and seemed entirely unwilling to assist me with my problem, instead referring me to a long customer service phone call.

This place is terrible. Terrible. Because it’s the cheapest place in the area, and because it’s close to where I live, I’ve been here about 6 – 8 times. 3 or 4 of those times, it has taken me around an HOUR — H.O.U.R. — to get my car. They are chronically understaffed. They seem to have no way of knowing whether your reservation will actually be there. And they have no way of notifying you ahead of time when they don’t have your car. I can get a text message from an airlines if my plane is delayed by ten minutes, but Hertz can’t tell me when they don’t have any cars?
I don’t expect a great experience when I rent a car. But once, just once, I’d like to show up at the time I said I would and drive away in my rented car in under 30 minutes.

I am writing this review from their lobby, where I have been waiting for a rental for 40 minutes on a Saturday morning. Apparently having a reservation doesn’t actually mean having a car there when you show up. Oh and really this is my fault, cause this sort of thing is the second time this has happened. And since I have some time on my hands right now, here are some tips pro bono how to run a business so your customer doesnt write a scrappy Unilocal review 1) call a customer if there are no cars so they don’t show up for nothing 2) keep track of your databases and quantity of cars in stock — hotels do this with rooms, super novel idea. 3) don’t be an unsympathetic employee with complete disregard for customers time.

When I arrived to pick up my rental car, since the store has no parking spaces in the front of the store, an employee brought the car to the front of the store to check me out and hand over the keys. When he did this, he double parked the rental car, blocking in cars I can only assume we’re other rental cars. This is where I dropped off the car at the time of return, as I was given no instructions on how or where to return the car.
Well when I did try to return the car, nobody greeted me for over 15 minutes. Turns out the car isn’t allowed to be dropped off or picked up infront of the store. The car got a $ 100 ticket, which Hertz just charged my credit card, plus an additional $ 40 administrative fee.
I simply returned my car where I had picked it up. There were naturally no signs indicating where they would like you to return the car… Nor was I given any instructions where to return it. One would only assume to return it the only place I ever saw or was given the car. Thanks hertz. Your employees were the biggest bunch of unprofessional young adults I experienced since I was a junior counselor at second-​rate summer camp…

I try to keep in mind that many reviews, especially about a car rental agency, are going to be negative because the only people who bother to write a review are those who had a bad experience — they need to vent. The thousands of people who have gone in and out this Hertz location who had a completely normal car rental experience aren’t gong to log on to Unilocal and say «OMG I rented a car in Silver Spring and nothing went horribly wrong!»
Well let me break the mold. I had a perfectly good experience here. In and out, no muss no fuss, and the staff were all very nice. I rented again from them and the manager was very helpful and even matched a better price from a competitor. Hertz Silver Spring FTW!
I’d give them 5 stars except who the hell would give a car rental location 5 stars? I mean it’s not like they gave me chocolates and coffee when I walked in. If they hand me a Toblerone and an espresso next time then I’ll think about that coveted 5^th star.

I will never rent from this location again.
I had a reservation to pick a car up at 10 am on a Friday. I got there at 9:50. There were about 5 other customers waiting and no employees in sight. When an employee finally appeared and spoke to me (about 10:10) they told me they had no cars at that location and just sent a car-​full of employees to BWI (about 45 minutes away) to pick up more cars.
They were completely unapologetic and could care less about the fact that they had no car for me. As I continued to wait 3 other customers came in. These customers had 8am reservations and Hertz called them to explane they had no cars at 8am either (I would have liked to receive a call instead of wasting my morning and missing a meeting).
Around 10:50 they told me that they had a car for me, and it was «just being cleaned. It will be ready in 5 minutes.» Since I was already late for a meeting, I asked if I could do the paper work and pay while the car was being cleaned so that when the car was ready I could immediately leave. They said «no.»
Finally at 11:15 my car was pulled around and we started my paper work and I finally was able to drive away at about 11:25 (almost an hour and a half after the time my reservation was for).
I rented from this location because of its proximity to where I live in Columbia Heights. I thought it would be faster to catch an S2 bus up 16^th St. than to go all the way to Union Station to rent a car. I was dead wrong. I could have easily taken the metro to Union Station and driven back to my apartment in less time than it took to get a car from this place.
I rent cars often, and I will never rent from this location again (or from Hertz if I can help it).

After a bad experience at the two Enterprise rental car places in Silver Spring (One across the street the other on Automotive Drive ~ Don’t go to either… EVER!) I walked into this location hoping for a better experience.
I might as well have been invisible.
No one acknowledged me or offered me any assistance. There were others in the currently remodeled space but it was as if I didnt exists. I just left dumbfounded. This is no way to run a business! Needless to say I will never return. Their loss. I figure to give them $ 100.00 in business every month. It just walked right out the door. I hope someone from Hertz is reading this. You need to know you lost a customer.

Horrible. Waited 30 min to return a car. Only 1 manager had the password to a computer so every other employee had to wait for the 1 manager to do anything.

Hertz is one of the few car rental companies that allow drop off at a separate location. My car broke down in Indiana, I had to return to retrieve it, thus my need for a one way car rental.
Everything went according to plan. Hertz has a convenient location in Silver Spring. Odd to see a Hertz located in a downtown storefront, but it works nonetheless. They had me out the door in about 5 minutes. Clean, spacious office. Friendly and informed personnel. Very reasonable rate. Good equipment (RAV 4 w/​–6,000 miles). Very pleased with my experience with Hertz. Another bonus is that this «Local Edition» location is near the Silver Spring bus depot, and not far from the Silver Spring metro station, if you need to take transit. I’d recommend Hertz for one way rentals, or short term leases. It’s a nice resource. There is an Enterprise across the street. Have not used them, but you can always check and compare. I can vouch that this Hertz location is quality.
