I didn’t think I’d write any reviews anytime soon, but looks like I missed reviewing this cupcake truck! I ate a pumpkin pie cupcake here at Curbside Cookoff many moons ago. It was delicious! I would’ve eaten at it again if I’d ever seen it again…

The 3 stars are not for the sweet potato cupcakes — they are very good — but I really have a hard time with their customer service. Their stops are very unrealiable. I just hope they step it up a bit more or they will loose customers.

Downtown DC has become food truck mecca. I saw this one on 19th and L. The nice woman in the truck urged me to try the chocolate sweet potato so I did. I shared it with a coworker. Well we were not that impressed. I felt that the sweet potato and the chocolate did not work together. Well it was actually the spices didn’t work with chocolate. The cupcakes were moist and the icing creamy so I would be willing try another flavor. I have a feeling the sweet potato only version is excellent.

So I had my hair done in Chinatown today and what to my wondering eyes did appear right outside my salon? The little red Love Bites food truck! When I asked the guy what flavors they had he said, «Sweet potato.» It was a sign from above that a cupcake would soon be mine. I missed getting a sweet potato cupcake during the Curbside Cookoff and all the positive reviews made me want one even more. As the two previous reviewers noted, they are small, standard-sized make at home cupcake sized. However, the sweet potato cupcake with cream cheese frosting was super moist and delicious! It had TONS of frosting(perhaps to make it look bigger?) on top. Their little love bites are $ 3.00, which is a bit high for a small standard cupcake. I agree with Dana Z.; $ 2.50 would be more reasonable, especially since they have no overhead for a storefront and they make them in their apartment’s kitchen. Who knew sweet potatoes could make me drool?!

Holy Smokes! I round the corner and there’s yet ANOTHER cupcake truck. Soon there will be one on every corner… I tried the chocolate sweet potato cupcake. The flavor was unexpected but really good; almost like gingerbread. The chocolate frosting was smooth, creamy and not too sweet and there was a perfect ratio of cake to frosting. Their cupcakes are very nice to look at with some interesting flavors. This cupcake was waaaay better than Curbside Cupcakes which I was shocked to see was The Washington Post’s #1 rated food truck.(Now I can’t possibly trust any of the rankings in their other categories). But still, at $ 3.00 per cupcake, it’s a complete rip-off…maybe two for $ 3.00 would be more reasonable. I had to try it once, but I won’t be buying them on a regular basis at that price.(Yes, I know that that’s the going rate, but it still doesn’t make it right)

I had NO idea about this company until I saw their red van at the Curbside Cookoff. I heard some people raving about their sweet potato cupcakes. I’m not a fan of sweet potato(I know, I’m like the only one) but I still went to see what they had. They do have a pretty interesting selection of cupcakes, and they are light and fluffy and moist. They are on the small side. It’s only a small difference, but I think I’d price them at $ 2.50 for a cupcake instead of $ 3. No big deal though. They must be trying to make a better appearance in DC because they rolled up to the Friday Franklin Park lunch scene and joined in the party. Within 2 minutes there was already a line of 5 – 10 people. Only suggestion: they need to practice their parallel parking… for reaaalllll. Welcome to DC.
