i contacted Charles Baker/Abiqua Construction and Salvage in May of 2013 to repair some minor damage on the foundation of our 100 year old house. i will list the issues i experienced below: 1. The original quote was sent and i agreed to it. Then i got another email that«oops» they forgot to include the cost of replacement shake shingle. OK, i went with the flow. 2. When they got to the job site they said they could not find the right size of cedar shake shingle to match our unique, 100 year old materials. Apparently they didn’t measure properly in the first place. The funny part? I, a busy house wife with 2 small kids had to call around until i DID find the proper replacements AND i had to drive and get them myself, kids in tow. Now, I’m not happy but we needed the job done so on we went. 3. One year later, one of the corners they repaired is now crumbling and falling apart. They claim it is a moisture issue despite the fact that there are no pipes, sinks or anything that would cause condensation anywhere near this corner. Additionally, we hire professionals every year to maintain the gutters on our 4 foot wide eves which allow almost no rain near the foundation, even in gusty wind storms. Clearly if there was a moisture issue, it seems they would have noticed that one year earlier and we didn’t have any floods. The other areas of repair seem to be holding up for now but i got a quote from them for $ 775 dollars to fix what they either A) did not repair properly or B) misdiagnosed in the first place. The footnote to the quote says that this is a quote assuming they encounter no bigger issues. Which leaves my pocket book wide open.
