Highsmith and Daughters Plumbing

I’m the third member of my family to be extremely pleased with the service we’ve gotten from Highsmith. Everyone at the company is very knowledge about plumbing, friendly, and the plumber, Jay, arrived right on time. He didn’t try and upsell and was willing to discuss all options with me. Highly recommend.

I don’t post a lot of Unilocal reviews — just when something is notably good or bad. In this case, I am pleased to report that I had an overwhelmingly positive experience with Matt and his associate. Here is how it all transpired:
My Issue — water would seep through the wall of my downstairs laundry room whenever I would flush an upstairs toilet. My handyman tried replacing the toilet seal but it didn’t help, so it was clearly something more complicated, i.e. a leaky pipe in the wall. I had opened up the wall a small amount prior to hiring a plumber but couldn’t see anything obvious.
Matt’s FREE inspection — He spent about 20 minutes assessing the situation, discussing the symptomology (like an MD taking a patient history), and immediately ruled out a couple of possibilities. He told me a couple of options including replacing the toilet seal the proper way (i described how the handyman did it and it was not ideal), I could open up the wall more myself to get a better look at the leaky area, or he could just handle it all. I like options particularly those that have significant price implications, and I opted to open up the wall myself as a starting point. Low and behold, the leaky pipe was staring me in the face, right where he thought it would be!
Matt’s repair — He showed up on time on a saturday, took a look at the newly opened wall and gave me an estimate of the repair price based on the complexity and time he estimated to complete the job THAT DAY! Everything went according to plan — the repair was complicated and in a tight space surrounded by wires and beams. Matt did a precise job without having to remove any beams and did not cause any ancillary damage. The job took about 4 hours as he had roughly estimated.
Extras — When he showed up, I also mentioned that my garbage disposal had conked out — i had already purchased a replacement and asked if he would install that too. He did so without question and that job would have been done in a flash if he didn’t also discover another leak of a corroded pipe under my sink. So he replaced that too. The whole package of jobs was extremely reasonable. And all throughout, I had an intelligent, technically competent, and socially capable guy on the job who was willing to explain to me exactly what was going on.

When ever I have a plumbing issue at my house Matthew is the ONLY person I will call. I can’t say enough about his professionalism, integrity and the quality of work he performs.
Matt has done simple jobs from replacing a pressure regulator to larger jobs such as replacing my entire main water line which connects in the street. He’s always willing and able to answer any and all questions, and I feel that his answers come from a place of advising the best course of action rather than how he can make the most money.
Being a Real Estate professional, I also have Matthew listed as my preferred vendor for plumbing and I don’t hesitate to refer him to my clients. He’s priced reasonably for low flow toilet installs and auto shut-​off valves for gas meters. Referring people really is considered the ultimate compliment and I don’t hesitate to recommend Matt to friends, family and clients.

High smith& daughters outstanding customer service we came home from vacation to a water leak and Matthew came to the rescue found the leak fixed the leak and now we have found a reliable plumber.

Matthew has been our plumber for many years, and we have also referred him to others. We love his honesty. He really knows plumbing. He goes out of his way to make sure that the job is done thoroughly… last time he even drove all the way across the Valley just to get a specific part, instead of doing it the easy way, he did it the RIGHT way. Prices are really fair. He is a pleasure!

Matthew has done work multiple times on our house and a rental house over the last several years with his former company and now on his own. My father trained to me to do plumbing back when we used galvanized pipes and then I continue to do most repairs up until the last few years. So I’m very aware of the details of plumbing repairs and can judge who is competent. I found it is better to have someone good with all the parts in their truck come out at the beginning rather than get stuck on my back underneath the sink trying to loosen stuck pipes and having to go back and forth to Home Depot for the right part.
I have had plumbers come out when I know more than they do but Matthew is the real deal. He went out on his own when the company he worked for was sold. I continued to use him. He gives a thorough explanation of the problem and what he plans to do. Matthew attempts to find the most cost-​effective solution and gives the pros and cons of various options. He is very honest and up front with his price for the job. he has done several jobs, replacing toilets, repairs, drain cleaning and a hot water heater.
