The Bicycle Shack

I know I’m 65 years old and have only ridden a suspension MTB since July (4 mo.) and haven’t really ridden since the 90’s but it’s not my first rodeo in the biking world.

Numerous centuries, double centuries, triple centuries.
Land Rush 3 times (San Francisco to LAX in 2 days)
Qualified for Paris-​Brest-​Paris (rode 200, 300, 400, and 600 km 2 consecutive years)
Attended Paralympic Training Camp at Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs twice.
Furnace Creek 508 Women Tandem Relay Team (with 3 blind Paralypic stokers in 28 hrs, still the course record holders 20 yrs later)
Burley Tandem stage race podium– 3 years
Tandem road race Nationals
Raced crits, track and a few road races
Masters Track– state champion 3 yrs, medals at Nationals 2 yrs, medals at Worlds 3 yrs
Previously, I had never been treated as an outsider at a bike shop. Since I take my cycling seriously I asked a DH friend for some gravity assistance but he was going on vacation so he suggested going to this shack he hangs out in at the bottom of Santa Susanna Pass. Much to my dismay the owner didn’t even have time to get out of his chair and then suggested I find someone more my age to ride with. Women cyclists are now becoming a large part of the market and this attitude is what is keeping this industry from further growth and is not helping any of us. The parts and accesories will be hanging on his walls for a long, long time as far as I’m concerned. Maybe I should have asked if he had any #asssocks.

The guy who degraded my wife and son today is quite a human being. This shop worker/​owner whomever it was could not have been ruder. This is not going to happen to us again as me and everyone I know will never give this ignorant angry person a dollar ever again. Your attitude absolutely will kill this business

Steve has been building wheel for ages and I highly recommend the Bike Shack if you live anywhere in the LA area and need a rebuild. I have taken my rebuilt wheel on a round-​the-​world trip and so far, 2,000 miles in, it is working a charm. I read how great Steve was online, and am not at all disappointed. Great service, great price, great quality. May it last me 20,000 more.

Steve is awesome– always friendly & helpful, he gets to work on my bikes as soon as he can (sometimes while I wait, if he has time) and does great work. I definitely recommend him.

Steve at the Bike Shack provides friendly and personable service at a reasonable cost and is a welcome addition to the area. I would recommend him to people looking for a new bike or reviving an old faithful mount.

this is an excellent little shop, i stopped in today during my santa susana ride to get new brake pads and he did a great job, checking other things on my bike as well. Very friendly service and he even gave me advice on a bike that i can’t even buy from him. I will definitely be back.

Steve is a great guy. The shop is in a perfect location for some of the best trails in socal. You can stop in there before of after a ride for snacks and to get your bike worked on. There is not a lot of invantory but he can get anything for you usually for pretty cheap too.

The shop is located at the bottom of the Santa Susana Pass Road, next door to the Santa Susana Cantina. It is a great shop if you need air, water, drinks powerbars or nick nacks. They also specialize in repairs and service as well as shuttle rides.
There is also a nice Patio to cool down at and talk with other bikers.
