We had a great time on our two hour horseback ride. We saw amazing meadows and wildlife. We were able to trot and had two water crossings. Our guide Alyssa was very friendly and you could tell she loved her job. Perfect ride for all levels. Horse were calm and steady.

I don’t know what to think about this place. The stables were nice and the people were very, very nice. I thought the price was reasonable as well. However towards the end of the ride my wife’s horse just laid down in the middle of the trail with her on top. She came down with the horse pretty hard and landed on her shoulder. Her shoulder was nearly separated and she requires therapy for three months and is in a great deal of long term pain. They directed us to St. Charles Health care in Sisters, OR about 20 minutes away. St. Charles was very rude and sent us to the hospital another 45 minutes away. So perhaps the behavior of the horse was just a random event and Black Butte Stables deserves no culpability. On the other hand, we had a terrible experience there.

I sent a group of young friends on a ride with the crew at BBS, and they had a FANTASTIC time. Beautiful scenery, friendly horses, and knowledgeable, polite staff, made for the trip of a lifetime. Lots of fantastic picture opportunities. Whether staying at Black Butte Ranch, or just passing by, please do yourself a favor and stop in for a ride with BBS. They have short 1 or 2 hour trips, to longer ½ day(with lunch included) outings. I saw a group of 16 leave for a ½ day, and thought how great it would be for a corportate retreat type thing. The price(+ tip if you’re so inclined) was very reasonable. I’ll definitely be back.
