A Step In Stone

Wonderful experience. My wife and I went in to look at tile for a new kitchen backslash. We had samples of new cabinets and granite with us, Darlene was extremely helpful, and pointed us in the right direction. We had no idea what we wanted when we walked in, but we left having a great idea thanks to Darlene. We went back 4 weeks later when it was time to order and that was also very smooth, so was the pickup. I would highly recommend this place, a great local business.

I recently stopped in at a Step In Stone in Skillman, NJ to look at tile for our bathroom project. It isn’t a large project, two shower alcoves, but I really wanted to find an eye catching tile design. Darlene helped me and I was extremely impressed with her patience, knowledge, and design expertise. She pulled together some beautiful combinations for me to consider, all within my budget. Even though there were other customers in the store, I didn’t feel rushed and she was able to help others while I was thinking things over. I love the tile I finally chose. A Step In Stone has beautiful unique tile that you won’t find anywhere else. I am very excited to see our project completed.

I really enjoyed my experience shopping for tiles for my master and hall bathroom remodeling jobs at A Step in Stone in Skillman, NJ. I was referred to this store by my contractor and was very pleased with the friendly customer service and attention to detail by the owner. She was attentive to me and my husband on a busy Saturday and we didn’t even have an appointment. There is a multitude of styles of stone or porcelain tiles to choose from and they have both high end materials as well as lower priced tiles. And she was very helpful in accommodating our needs. I have shopped at many other tiles stores in the past but this experience exceeded my expectations. The owner is extremely talented in design and her knowledge of tiles and stone is exceptional. There are many samples of her beautiful mosaic and stone design work all around the store. If you want to have a first rate experience you should definitely stop in and take a look.

They have what seems to be a very complete selection of stone and tile, however don’t go in and expect any kind of attention unless you plan to spend thousands! I went in with my mom to pick out floor tile for a small bathroom I’m remodeling for my parents and was obviously dismissed once a client with a much larger and more expensive project showed up.
I was reprimanded for taking photos of the tiles I was considering in order to keep track and told that was «not allowed». They didn’t have samples available to take so I’m not sure what the options are here. I have plans for a much larger project that I was also getting ideas for while wandering around the store. Whether my parents decide to continue to purchase from this establishment is up to them, but I can’t in good conscience go back after practically being chased out of the store for trying to make an educated decision.
I visited another local tile store and was treated much more like a human, with respect and interested in my project. I was also allowed to take tile samples home!
Small businesses can’t afford to be alienating their potential customers like this if they want to compete with the big home improvement stores. I go to small local businesses like this because I like to support them and usually have a superior experience working with them, but experiences like this don’t help.
