In Skippack Village for the Winter Wine Fest, and a bit cold from walking around to some of the vinters’ tasting rooms around town, I decided to take a break and find a place to sit down and eat something warm. I saw the sign for the Shops at the Victorian Carriage House, and for«All Day Delicious,» and on impulse walked to the red door in that off street little complex. Upon opening it I saw a small sunlit dining area, and a warm smiling face coming out of the kitchen. Auspicious start, as it gave me the feeling that I was walking into my own home. A few people carrying their empty wine glasses were chatting over steamy bowls of soup, mugs of coffee and tea, and perhaps, hot chocolate. It was such a pleasant alternative to the sub-freezing January afternoon happening outside, and the pressed flesh in many of the tasting rooms. This was the perfect place for a break. I wanted about 30 minutes to thaw and enjoy the effects of the wine in comfort. The scent of Tomato Soup wafted through the air and directed my decision. I asked for a bowl of it. It arrived moments later with what appeared to be a homemade roll. It was organic and vegetarian, and lightly spiced. The taste was calming and delicious. It wasn’t overly thick, but had a nice body that I began to savor much the same way I had been sipping wine moments before. In fact, it was so good, it would have easily been a best seller if marketed in bottles next to the merlot and zins. I took my time with it, and used the bread to sop up every last drop of red in the bowl. If I lived in these parts, I would be stopping by and ordering out frequently. No doubt I would be continually tempted by all the fresh cookies in the displays, and bring folks here for business meetings. Allow me to return when completely sober and try more of the menu. I strongly suspect that this family operation will ultimately reach 5 Stars.
