Bruiser’s is a great place to hang out, throw a few back, and enjoy some delicious gourmet hot dogs. I’ve only experience this place lunch time on Saturday’s. Friendly, welcoming service, great music, chilled back atmosphere. Full bar, good selection of beer, and a great bartender. Don’t find too many places as genuine as this. The people here are great. Stop by if you’re in town or just passing through. Quick shot into the downtown Slidell area off the Fremaux exit.

The place is very comfortable. It felt like an old favorite hangout on my first visit. I had the andouille and it was amazing — spicy, flavorful, and covered in melted cheese and grilled veggies.

Food is good. The Hot Dogs are creative and tasty. The beer is fairly priced. Here’s the reason for 3 stars: What I hated though was that I bought two beers with my food and then Asked for a cup of ice water And was charged a dollar for the cup. I can understand charging if that was all I got, but I had spent over $ 20 and they felt the need to nickel and dime. Greedy.

Stopped in today for lunch. You can tell the owners care about quality ingredients and are trying hard. The restaurant is clean and the décor is fun/kitchy. Unfortunately the food(other than the jambalaya) wasn’t worth the price. My Chicago dog had way too much mustard, not enough celery salt, and instead of slices of tomato and a sliver of pickle, I got huge wedges of both. Couldn’t even taste the hot dog. I lived in Chicago for five years, believe me, I know what a Chicago dog is. This wasn’t one. Hubby’s chili dog was okay, but the chili was pretty lackluster, as was the coleslaw, both just sort of bland, which was surprising since the jambalaya was so tasty. We might give this place one more try to see if there’s a hidden gem on the menu, but this visit was sort of a dud.

First let me address some of the negative reviewer’s complaints: 1. No, they do not charge 99 cents extra for the bun, unless you want a sourdough bun, INSTEADOF the regular poppy seed bun. That reviewer was confused. 2. Yes, there is limited parking, but that isn’t the owners’ fault. Welcome to Olde Towne Slidell! 3. Yes, the prices are higher than what you would pay for a cheap hot dog. However, these are not«cheap» hot dogs! You get what you pay for. The hot dogs are high quality all beef dogs, NOT mystery meat; The buns are soft and fresh, NOT grocery store generic buns; And the chili is homemade, NOT canned. 4. Too many bikers? Really? What’s wrong with bikers? They don’t bite. How will they«kill the family dining experience»? This isn’t Chuck E Cheese. This is as close as you’re going to get to the kind of hot dogs you would find in Chicago or New York. As I said, these hot dogs are high quality– you do get what you pay for! The atmosphere is a combination of a 50’s style diner and sports bar.

Extremely limited parking. I was looking for a place to eat, saw these reviews and decided to try them. The parking lot was full even though there were plenty of open tables and the neighbors had patrons only signs in their parking lots. I passed them by and went somewhere else.

Love this place! The people are great and the food is wonderful! Be sure to stop by on St Patty’s Day for the Shepard’s Pie Dog! And don’t forget the Train Shots.

Love the open to the outside bar! Perfect on this cool evening. We ordered specials: bacon cheddar ranch tots and andouille sausage dog. Both were delicious! Sitting at the bar you face the train tracks and if a train goes by you can get a train shot for $ 1. We just missed the train, lol! The bartender as very personable. I ordered a beer and she put it in a coozie! We will definitely be back!

They love dogs. Bonus! Larry is a riot behind the bar. The food is good. I haven’t been for bike night, but they do have one! Cool joint overall.

Great restaurant! Good food and cool setup. Love all the TV’s, bar and outdoor area too. I had the gigantic Barduca dog and it was awesome! Fyi this is the best place to watch the Mardi Gras parades in Slidell. The big bay doors open up and they have an big olé party. Keep up the good work!

These hotdogs are awsome. And the service is exceptional. Everyone is so sweet. Parking is limited but the place has room for indoor and outdoor seating. A nice bar as well!

I love hot dogs! I’ve travelled all over the country sampling many regional hot dog favorites, like Cincinnati Dogs with real Cincinnati Chili, Chicago Dogs right outside Wrigley Field, Kansas City Dogs from Dixon’s Chili restaurant made famous by presidents as far back as Harry Truman, Polish Dogs in Pittsburgh, Bratwurst Dogs with Stone ground mustard at the October Fest in Lincoln, Nebraska, even a bacon-wrapped, deep fried, foot long monstrosity at a Saltdogs game in Charleston, South Carolina. When I say I love hot dogs, I’m no amateur. I was so excited when I found out that a specialty hot dog joint was opening in my hometown. Excited enough that I was their first official paying customer! You really can’t go wrong with any of the dogs on Bruiser’s menu, though my favorites are the Spicy Chicken Sausage Dog, the Jambalaya Dog & their own signature Barduca Dog. Their Chicago Dog & New Yorker Dog are as close as you’ll get to the real thing without a plane ticket. Stop by, say hi to the owners Kevin & Melissa, & let their colorful bartender«Cheif», an honest to God retired firefighter from Chicago, pour you a cold one and regale you with tales both frequently baudy & sometimes true.

Pretty good hot dog! I didn’t know this place sells mostly hotdogs when I first went in the other day. I went in because it was new and I pass it all the time and to be honest, I only went thru the trouble of parking in their tiny lot to see what beers they had on tap. None. BUT… they had Sam Adams, so I stayed. In fact, I had already eaten an earlier small lunch, but I asked for a menu anyway and decided to get something to eat. Their service was fast and friendly and the atmosphere is open and bright. Not bad. I got the jambalaya dog and it was good and more than I care to really eat. Next time, I’ll get a chilidog. I’m not normally a hotdog fan, but I confess that I’m a sucker for a footlong chilicheese coney at Sonic. If the jambalaya dog I had was any indication, Bruiser’s is gonna have that beat for sure.

Had the Chicago Dog on sourdough today instead of poppy seed. Both versions are excellent. Heard the Spicy Cajun Chicken Sausage is amazing, so will try that next time. Tater Tots are good– not great, but not sure how you make perfect tater tots. Always enjoy the atmosphere and wait staff/proprietors who are very friendly/courteous.

First, stop the«it’s great». Now the dog wasn’t bad but one hot dog cost me 5.99 plus .99 cents for the bun. That is 7:00 for a dog. Why would they charge .99 cents extra for the bun. Read the menu I posted. You will read every dog comes on a poppy seed or a sourdough bun for .99. Next the chili is not to write home about and the coleslaw does not taste like nothing. Please don’t get me wrong like I want to see this place succeed but someone has to tell the truth. I don’t want to pay 7.00 dollars for a dog and than buy a coke for 2.00 and a side for more. No I am not cheap it is a hotdog. It should be 2.50 for a dog so Get over the I got the best dog. Lower your prices, do away with 99 cent for the bun. Sell more and make more. The bun was good an makes the hot dog what it is.

Been back a few times since my first visit and have not had a bad experience yet. Latest visit was for their Cajun Chicken Sausage Dog. It was truly delicious. In hindsight, I wish I had not ordered chili on tit as the sausage was flavorful enough on it’s own. Same friendly and attentive service.

My entire family loves this restaurant… even the non-hot dog lovers(like myself-I order the sea dog-a breaded fish filet on a poboy style hot dog bun with tarter sauce, tomato wedges, and a prickle spear). I could eat the loaded tater tots as a meal, they’re soooo good! The prices are a bit high, but the atmosphere and quirky waitress makes it all worthwhile… going back tomorrow with the in-laws! I would have given the restaurant 5 stars if the prices weren’t so high – sorry!

Awesome place! Love what they did to the old Gas station. I don’t even like hot dogs and I Love a Duca Dog! It screams Merica! Hot dog with bacon and a cold beer. It’s going to be even better when it warms up and chill outside on the bar.
