Selene is THE parade to attend if you’re in Slidell. The all woman parade is the the highlight of the Mardi Gras season here and it is highly anticipated by residents, so much so that people stake claim to a prime viewing spot three or four days prior to it rolling. For years it was our sleepy town’s only nighttime parade. It’s held on the Friday prior to Fat Tuesday and Slidell businesses all shut down early that day. If I have out of town visitors it’s so much fun to take them to this parade. The ladies of Selene are very generous with their throws and all parade goers go home loaded down with Mardi Gras trinkets. I rode in Selene for a couple of years and believe me when I say that it is expected of you to be generous with your throws if you want to be a member. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
