I am usually not a fan of this place, but yesterday i was pleasantly surprised. I went into the store looking for a specific bottle of chilean red wine. Although, they did not have it, the manager there ANGELA; went above and beyond to help me. She even called a neighboring winn dixie store to see if they carried it. More people like her need to work in the service industry.

3 weeks ago while checking out with a bottle of wine the cashier needed to see my drivers license apparently not able to tell I was 44 years past the age of 21. No ID — no alcohol, showed ID and returning home sent out e-mail blast to all members of our local VFW warning about showing ID’s and the risk of a cashier recording the drivers license number leading to Identity thief. Today while checking out with a bottle of Robitussin was again asked for ID because the cough medicine contains sudafed. Needless to say that was my last visit to any Winn Dixie.

They have a really good liquor selection and this morning when I was in there and manager came up to me as I was asking the cashier about the fuel perks and thank me for shopping at Winn-Dixie and explain the fuel perks to me and just made me feel really welcome and I thought that was really nice!

I’ve literally grown up next to this super market, well close enough to it. Throughout high school, all of my friends would come here to get a job seeing as they hire around the age of seventeen. If you’re looking for a part-time job as a high school student, this is your place to go. Additionally, I went to plenty of high school dances and have purchased corsages here, I think you’re better off getting one off of eBay or a flourist because the corsages aren’t too amazing. Winn-Dixie is exclusive to Louisiana, and applying for a Winn-Dixie card will let you get plenty of discounts including fuel perks based on how often you spend. Usually somewhere around fifty dollars. There’s also a variety of discounts on groceries just like Walmart, but even better since you get more for spending more. The bakery’s alright, but it could be better, Walmart does a better job. Whenever I asked for a cookie cake with the words,“Prom?” on the cake, the woman said to me that it wasn’t possible to scrape off all of the icing and add more. So, at which point I went to Walmart and got them to do it instead on their selection of cookie cakes. The place isn’t too bad, it’s alright if you want to shy away from your Regular Walmart crowds as there aren’t really a lot of crowded lines here sometimes.

OK. Area store draws on locals and Mississippi residents who run across the line for liquor. Store items ok, but staff are not very friendly or alert. Few cashiers are open. Customer service seems never to be open. Other stores like Mizers are easier on basic items and staff is always friendly. Shame, this used to be a better store.

Buyer beware! I bought some Annies salad dressing there last week only to find that it was more than 5 months expired. I went back to get a different bottle and found that all the Annied bottles of their salad dressing in that section were also expired. I made note of it to the manager, and he said he would pull all of those off the shelf. I’ve been back about 3 times since then all of the salad dressing is still on the shelf… still expired. If you’re buying from the organic section make sure you look at the expiration dates cause I don’t think they’re checking on that stuff.

An older supermarket, Winn-Dixie has been a part of the Slidell landscape for decades. This location is small in comparison to other area grocers, but does it’s best to carry all the basics and then some. Firstly, this location has a very decent produce department. They offer a fairly large selection of fresh fruits and veggies, especially when you consider the overall size of the store. They also have a full offering of packaged meats and poultry, along with a small case dedicated to fresh meat and seafood. The store shelves are pretty well stocked with everything from chips and soda to bread and mayo. They also have a pretty sizable freezer department. Overall, their selection is pretty decent but not the best in town. Selection aside, this store has pretty outdated feel to it. Not necessarily in a bad way, some customers would even enjoy the nostalgic setting. It only seems to become a drawback once you reach the checkout. The self-checkout machines are very old and kinda glitchy, which may inconvenience some customers. I would certainly recommend this location to anyone who is looking to do some quick grocery shopping, but not someone who is looking for something in particular.
