This is my local library. I walk here once or twice a week. The collection is great. The library is constantly adding new materials. Excellent and helpful staff. Great book sales. Unique charm, too. It’s located in a former elementary school.

The library is close to my home so we frequent it a lot. Some of the staff are amazingly helpful and friendly. Really genuinely nice and caring. They’re truly great there and so nice to the kids too. My children love going there! Only complaint is the condition of some books and video material is a bit over-worn and should probably come out of circulation. Couldn’t even play a DVD due to the number of scratches. Overall it’s a great place.

Old schools books and Legos The very first East Smithfield Library was started in 1872 but like early libraries tended to do, it moved around a bit. Books were stored where ever there was room. The town actually opened another library for a while but they ended up being consolidated in one. This quickly led to a problem with storage so in 1985 the town decided to stick all the books into the old Dorothy Dame school and this became the permanent library. The librarie’s school origins are still very obviously and cool. From the very low, school type drinking fountains to the staircases, everything reminds you of some elementary school that you attend in your youth. The library actually is quite pleasant with lots space and little rooms for storage and activities. Lots of computers, DVD’s and books, the library makes the best use of the space. The libraries hosts a whole bunch of activities in the spare rooms from lectures, demonstrations and even a Lego club. A cool and unique library that still drips of blackboards and homework
