Yeah their prices went up from 2 dollars to 4 or something like that — but they also made some major improvements(digital projectors) and upgraded seating. To me, that is an extra two dollars well spent. This is a cool small town movie theatre that deserves to be supported. The theatre has discount prices, but they play current movies. At 4 dollars, it feels like you are stealing when you watch a movie here.

The Howell Theatre is one of the few remaining downtown movie theatres in North Carolina. Don’t let the old building fool you, though, they have made some significant changes inside to update the theater, including new seats, sound systems, and converting to digital. They get movies that are a few weeks old rather than new releases, but they $ 4 price per ticket can’t be beat! The theatre is clean, the seats are comfortable, and the popcorn is good!

You get what you pay for and since the movies are only 2.50($ 3 starting Jan 6th) I cannot be upset! Theatre is comfy and clean. Perfect for kids movies since I refuse to pay full price for someone who will potentially fall asleep. Snacks are average theater price, overall im happy!

The prices are hard to beat but once you get inside you understand why. The theater I was in was small and smelled like your granny’s house-that hadn’t been aired out in years! The sound from the adjacent theater was distracting. Sound in my theater was okay. This was my first visit and I’m not so sure I’ll be back. I understand it’s an old building but they really need to consider doing something to fight the poor flow of traffic inside. As soon as you walk in your faced with the line of people who are buying their snacks. I guess overall it will do if you missed seeing your movie in one of the newer theaters.

So in just a couple of years this fine $ 2 movie theater became a $ 4 theater. Boo! But I’ll support a local long-time business though it’s changed hands a few times. Apparently Ava Gardner watched her first movie in this building. Now that’s historic! Usually the movies are only a few weeks old, and tend to leanmore toward the kiddie fare. i swear I think the Smurfs movie played for like 6 months as did the Chipmunks movie. The screen quality is just as good as new theaters since their renovation. Maybe the sound isn’t as thundering as newer cinemas but I’m okay with that. I’m also not a fan of their popcorn, but I’m going for the $ 4 movie here.

We took our family to the movies here. The movies are second-run movies but they are shown in first-rate style. The theatre is in a historic building and has been in operation for 75 years. Seating is comfortable and the theatre was clean. Refreshments are typical movie-theatre offerings and at typical prices. We enjoyed the shows we have taken our kids to and found other families, much like ours, to be the typical customers. We usually go during the day, with our young children, and it is not crowded and we have not had any issues with parking. I could see that this could be a busy place on Friday and Saturday nights for«date nights» for audiences of all ages. Go and Enjoy!
