We have been going to the«hut» for a couple of years now and it just keeps getting better and better. This 2013 – 2014 season has been all comedies and they have been really well done. The sound and lighting have been upgraded. They also offer Flex tickets like they do at Raleigh Little theater. Which are wonderful gifts or to take a guest along for the show. We like that you call and«reserve» if you will. Since it is such a small, intimate venue it assures everyone a seat and there aren’t any bad ones.

Little did I know this place existed– living just 35 miles outside of Raleigh in the town of Smithfield. With a guide to the arts and a listing posted for the current show«sex please we’re sixty» advertised in the News and Observer”, I immediately went to check their website. Reservations are taken by phone only with a recorded message that says they will call you back only if there is a problem– that really didn’t sit well with this city girl who likes things confirmed. However when we arrived 40 minutes before show time and our Name was on the printed reserved list, I felt much better. They take cash or check– no debit or credit. The line to get in had already formed as there is no assigned seating. We were able to snag nice seats in the third row toward the center. When the show started only a few Minutes after 8pm, I did find the acoustics lacking and almost wished I had sat in the front row– or dare I say it– invest in a hearing aid? At intermission hubby told me they want to invest in a better sound system and he was encountering the same problem every time a motorcycle or truck rambled by. It is the cutest place in Its 40th year and looked like a lodge. The seating was nice and held maybe 100 people. The program listed attractions of Smithfield and the actors information. On to the show– loved it! The actors did flub a few lines here and there which only added to the charm of the play. I thought it was well written with lots of laughs built in. Well acted and whole heartedly humorous and the nicest of touches– after the show the actors came outside and lined up so you could meet them and tell them how great it was. With a hometown feel, nice temperature control, small 3 stall bathroom and a promising 2014 season ahead, Mike and I will definitely become regulars. This was worth the trip and I look forward to visiting again!
