Better than most fast food places. We went inside, and waited about 10 minutes for the food. It was good, but the food could have been a little warmer. The staff was friendly and the dining room was clean, although a little cold in temperature. There was one problem and I didn’t tell anyone, but half way through my burger I noticed there was bite missing from the opposite side of the burger(including teeth marks on the bun) it looked as if a child had eaten it. I thought it was my imagination, ignored it, then almost finished the tater tots and found one was half eaten! Again with a tiny bite missing from it. I guess I should have told someone but I didn’t have time. This was at 6pm, Wed 2÷17÷2016 in Smithfield RI. I’m a little afraid to go back now.

The restaurant was dirty, garbage overflowing in the bins. The cashier was unfriendly and overworked. There was one cashier at lunch time on a holiday/school vacation week. My wait for food was over 20 minutes and the order came out wrong! Would not recommend to anyone.

Some of the worst service in the fast food industry, the wings are my favorite and the sonic blasts are delicious. It’s tough to give more than one or two stars because the service is so slow.

Finally checked out the Sonic in Smithfield. The lines have always been so insane, I haven’t had the patience to wait 3 hours for a burger and a drink. The lines were still pretty hectic but I went inside instead of waiting for a carhop. Their drink menus are always what enticed me as I’ve been to several Sonic’s in Colorado and Ohio so I was excited to have them close to home. But that’s about all sonic is good for in my opinion. It’s standard fast food fare: burgers, fries, hotdogs, chicken sandwiches, etc. Nothing really stood out to me or tasted like anything exceptional minus their huge drink menu. I loved the Cherry with Nerds so much I ordered an extra one to go. Other than that, the location is miserable; trying to take a left to get out of the parking lot onto rt 44 is a literal nightmare and dangerous. But the place is clean and the staff is friendly and helpful despite being so busy. Hats off to you guys! Will I return? Maybe but idk if I like the drinks that much to wait in line for more than 20 minutes.

Better than McDonald’s BUT you have to wait three times longer here Fast food should be fast, not 20 minutes of sitting in a car. The food is okay and the burgers are better than most fast food joints, but we may as well have went to Chelo’s and ordered a burger cause it would have taken probably just as long. Go inside. Don’t opt for drive-thru since they can’t seem to handle it on the separate occasions I’ve been here.

Went inside at first it was crowded but there was seats, problem was the had crazy commercial playing over and over and it was loud. So went to the area were they ran the food over to our car. We drove over and figured it would be a push button screen but it wasn’t it was a speaker like a drive thru. They ran the food over fast and the food was good I just wasn’t crazy about a family of four eating in a car.

Better Than McDonalds I know I have spoken pretty harshly about Sonic lately. This is the first location to open in RI. I waited for basically 3 months and several foolish traffic jams in front of the place later to finally try this chain. I have to say the food is ok. Seems to be a better quality product than McDonalds or Taco Bell, but that isn’t saying a whole hell of a lot. I recommend the place for a weekend late night burger fix when you be a bit inebriated and not be overly judgmental about quality and taste. The thing that boggles my mind is a chain restaurant that has the unique characteristic of a roller skate server car hop, building a location in a state that has bad weather at least 4 months out of the year. Sonic = Late Night Drunk Cheeseburger and Tater Tots Tip: Drive down the street and try Firehouse Hot Dog’s instead of Sonic. It’s a local legend that serves fresh food to order for the late night night crowd. Thanks

Wow. What a bunch of ingrates I see posting here. I’m 28 weeks pregnant and after seeing so many Sonic commercials I got a bad craving! Me and the hub drove from Portsmouth(45 min drive) and were surprised to see how slammed this place was! We opted to go thru the drive thru and park in regular parking to eat. The person taking our order was super polite and got everything right. He was even nice after I added pickle-o’s at the last minute(they have PICKLE-O’S!!!). The drive thru girl was nice and when I asked if it’s always this busy she smiled, said«Yes» and got back to work. Our food was hot and tasty with no errors. I could not have been more thrilled Great job Sonic! And try not to complain if you have to wait, at least you have a Sonic!

It’s a fast food, nasty tasting food place that is way over rated and so not worth the wait people have been putting up with. Luckily caught a night here not to busy and kids wanted ice cream shakes. Pretty much was in and out in 15 mins. We parked though the drive thru line seemed long. After all why wouldn’t it be when they have two ordering stations but only one window to pay and get your grub lol. This location wasn’t to planned out as their others. It was seemed rushed and just not enough room for all their functions they have at other locations. Hope you enjoyed your ice cream kids because daddio won’t be back here anytime soon lol

We definitely went for the novelty experience. The hype has died down and the night that we went(thanksgiving eve) it was busy– but not crazy. We waited about 5 minutes for a carport to open and ordered there. I got the chicago dog combo and my husband ordered a double cheeseburger combo. Loved the tots! I’ve had better chicago dogs, but it was a good effort on sonic’s part. I would order it again. My husband ate his whole meal and loved it of course. Next time we will make sure to order some slushies. Basically the menu screams fast food heaven.

Sunday afternoon at Sonic found us here for Happy Hour on our first ever visit to this chain. Good news: half priced slushes from 2 – 4 pm. While not my go-to beverage, it seems to be a Sonic staple, so far be it for me to not partake. As it turned out, they were giving out free samples of cherry slush to cars waiting in the drive thru. Quite good! Just minutes earlier I had ordered the apple slush. Honestly, apple didn’t taste much like apple but still not bad. So, on a mid-December Sunday, the drive thru wait time was 40 minutes. Perhaps the opening crush of chaos is over? All in all, props to Sonic for one of the most extensive fast-food menus. I came in search of a hot dog, which you truly can’t find at any other drive thru, and my chili cheese dog did not disappoint! Aside from the slush and dog, the remaining menu items can be found at Sonic competitors. So, here’s what we ordered, and how it compared to their rivals: Quarter pound cheeseburger: on par with Five Guys! Chili cheese dog: as good as Johnny Rocket’s(although not a true competitor) Onion rings: fair – better than Burger King but not as good as Johnny Rocket’s Strawberry shake: better at Chick Fil A Apple slush: no competition for comparison Can’t say I’m dying to return, but the shakes and ice cream menu is extensive, and my sweet tooth insists on further exploration. =)

As everyone knows this place was packed for almost 2 months. Finally it has calmed down. Honestly the hype was overrated. I tried to give this place several tries and it wasn’t my cup of tea. Yes I go here a lot but not for food ever just for their drinks that I’m madly in love with, the drink menu alone is long and I love it, but the food I don’t. I had ordered the foot long hotdog and it tasted like a frozen mediocre hot dog, nothing at all was special about it, except the over priced price. My fiancé had the burger he said it was okay, and nothing fancy. The other thing that was good out the meals was the tater tots. We haven’t tried the drive in yet, we have only been inside but if I don’t enjoy the food so why would I do the drive in, the one good thing about this place are the workers they’re sweet. The handful of times I have came here the workers have been very sincere and nice. But I will continue coming here for slushies with nerds and jolly rancher pieces, otherwise I’ll eat elsewhere.

I have been wanting to try Sonic for years and now there is finally one in RI! When it first opened it looked like a mad house but now its not too bad. My mom and I decided to grab lunch and we both loved the food. I got the #1(cheeseburger and tots) she had the ultimate chicken sandwich, both were hot and delicious. The drive thru didn’t take as long as I expected and the girl working was real nice. Now I get what all the hype is about. Definitely will be back to try more on the menu :)

Somebody waited two hours? They must be insane. Went early, no lines. Went through the drive-thru. Wanted just ketchup on my burger, got everything but ketchup. A lot like what happens at Wendy’s. Walked in this time. Got sandwich fixed. On to the taste… I would say it was a little better than Wendy’s, but not at Five Guys level. I wouldn’t wait more than a few minutes for this place.

Despite being officially open for a few weeks, there was still a 50 minute wait for the drive thru(on a Sunday afternoon). I’m not sure if this is due to insufficient parking space, poor location planning, or larger than expected customer traffic. It’s probably a combination of all of those things. Whatever the case … I wouldn’t hold the lengthy wait against them, if not for the fact that when I finally had my food in hand, it was barely lukewarm. If I had wanted a hastily thrown together burger with a side order of room temperature French fries, I would have gone to Burger King, and saved myself 45 minutes. The restaurant’s car hop /nostalgia factor, doesn’t do much for me. JOHNNYROCKETS does the nostalgia thing far better, and is a more enjoyable experience with better food. A & W(right up the street from SONIC) has their version of the carhop, and has vintage car nights. Though, I believe they are closed during the winter months. Bottom line: My suggestion to anyone still interested in trying SONIC? Wait until the public furor dies down, and the salivating hordes disperse. The food isn’t worth sitting in traffic for an hour.

I got the double bacon cheese burger with onion rings. The burger was huge and the onion rings tasty. It was better than the average fast food place, but nothing to rave over. The atmosphere is cute, the portions decent and the service was nice. It’s got that ‘50s feel that works. Worth going to at least once.
