Sorry this place sucks, and the place is dated the food tastes like it was warmed up. Chips and salsa was tostinos and fritz lay salsa. Pass this place by go to Taco Bell

We’ve been going to La Quetzalteca a few times a year since we moved to Smyrna about four years ago. The food has always been good but the service has always been lacking. We probably wouldn’t go out of our way to go there but we’ve received gift cards to go there from co-workers the past two years. The décor is over the top with lots of brightly colored paints on the walls and booths but it seems par for the course when compared to the other Mexican restaurants in Delaware. The seating area doesn’t feel dirty but a good deep clean and some better lighting would do wonders to make the place feel more vibrant. Like I said before, the food has always been good. We’ve ordered many different things on the menu and we’ve never been disappointed. Some of our favorites are the California Burrito(shrimp), enchiladas, and sopapillas(desert of crispy tortillas with honey and cinnamon sugar). It’s not the best Mexican food but it’s far better than what is served at the fast food places. The biggest draw back of going to La Quetzalteca is the service. It seems like we are always constantly waiting for something. You’ll always get seated quickly but after that there’ll be an almost longer than acceptable wait between getting the drinks and food and then your bill. I’ve been told the service in Delaware is just slower overall compared to where we are originally from(Central New York) but this place really pushes that to the extreme. As long as we have gift cards to come here, we’ll continue to try it out but there are other places that do a better job.

Had lunch one afternoon and the service was decent and the food was good. I’ve eaten at a lot of traditional Mexican restaurants and this was as good as those. The décor is a bit over the top but it’s easily overlooked for a decent, traditional meal.

Tolerable Mexican food. If you want a more authentic experience, drive a little farther to Los Compadres in Middletown or La Tolteca in Dover.

Don’t let the décor fool you here. The carnitas and chile relleno were heavenly. If you’re in the area, try it

The parking lot was full, so we NYers thought this must be a good place. Sadly, the food and service was poor. The décor is tacky but could’ve been overlooked had the food been good. The Margaritas were good — especially the frozen one. Eventually we will be spending significant time in this area, but not at this Resturant.

Definitely an example of not judging a book by its cover. Don’t let the strange colored fake bricks on the outside fool you. The place had excellent food and service. The grilled shrimp was cooked to perfection. The nachos have delicious pulled chicken! My only regret is not trying this restaurant sooner. A great alternative to Smyrna’s numerous pizza and Chinese joints.
