CORE40 Solana Beach

This place is incredible! The Lagree method is the most effective workout I’ve ever found — I’ve always been in shape, but my body has completely transformed since starting this! Mabel and Alona are both outstanding instructors, probably some of the best I’ve ever encountered. In just 40 minutes you will be challenged, encouraged, made to sweat (a LOT), and totally empowered. This is a serious workout at a seriously wonderful studio!

As a professional ballet dancer, I have found this to be the best workout out there. Forget all the «barre this» and «barre that» classes. If you want a hard (and I mean really hard 40 minute) work out this is the place to go. As a mom of 2 young boys, my time is precious and I love that I can really get a fantastic workout in 40 minutes. Alona is a sensational teacher. I’ve been coached in ballet by many great teachers and Alona lines up with the best of the best.

This is honestly the best workout I have ever had. My body actually craves it! Nothing more effective and it never gets easier. I also love that every class is never the same. I am the Biggest fan of core40!!! And there are no words to explain Alona’s classes. Amazing instructor! You have to try it!

Amazing total body workout. The instructors are all very knowledgeable and caring. I’ve tried several types of boutique workouts/​gyms and this one was the best. My body has changed so much with this workout, and my balance is even better. I have long lean muscles, and I feel so much stronger.
I am a competitive surfer, and this workout has taken me to the top of my game. My legs are much stronger and my improved balance continues to amaze me. I hardly get my hair wet when I surf now!

Love that studio the class is so challenging kicks your butt, Sara is awesome and super patient.

I have been going to power pilates for over 5 years in many locations… I have never experienced anything like what I did today. I was signed up for a class and walked in 3 minutes late to be told that someone not signed up took my spot. I would understand if I were 10 – 15 minutes late but 3 minutes?! And they were still going to charge me! I think what bothers me even more is that I waited for an instructor for 20 minutes last week to show up. This policy is absurd!

It was a GREAT workout! Went by so fast, and the instructor was very kind and knowledgeable. I did a combo class, it was nice to get back on the bike– It’s been years!

Love Core40! Just started taking classes a little over a month ago and feel amazing! It’s a million times harder than regular pilates and you leave truly having worked your entire body. The instructors are great and motivating and demonstrate the moves so you aren’t lost.
It’s tougher than anything I’ve ever done but give it a try and you’ll be happy you did!

Core40 is amazing. Adding it to my normal routine of swimming, cycling and running has completely changed my body. I love it. I had shoulder surgery last August and resumed Core40 shortly after. My orthopedist was stunned at the speed of my recovery. I feel certain Core40 helped immensely.

I love Core40. I first tried it about 1.5 yrs ago. I had a groupon and that it sounded interesting. The workout is AMAZING. The first month or 2 i would leave class trembling. I don’t think I have ever left a class without thinking «Man, that kicked my butt». FullBody is amazing. But I like the Combo as well. This isn’t traditional pilates. It is way better.

Great workout! I love the new reformers (well they are new to me since the last time I was here). I love the 40 min fast paced workout and the feeling of accomplishment when it’s complete. When I do this workout on a regular basis my body feels the strongest it’s ever been. I would recommend Core40 to anyone!

The reformer gives you such a workout. My first class ever was with Courtney. I love her!!! She’s so sweet and she always helps me out with my form.

I used to be a gym rat til I met Core40. It is one of my favorite boutique studios in the San Diego area. It’s nothing like I’ve ever done before. The movements are controlled and slow and before you know it, you’re dripping sweat and you haven’t picked up a single free weight.
The instructors are knowledgeable and very different in their teaching styles. My fave is Miss Jenna; so full of energy and nothing less than motivating. She’s one of the biggest reasons I come back week after week. Her CoreCombo classes are my favorite: 25 min of spin set to fun music and 25 min of core work on the Megaformer. And I can’t forget Alona; that woman makes sure you don’t leave the studio without feeling like you just got your ass handed to you.
I think it’s time I end my relationship with the gym. :)

O.M.GGG. probably one of the toughest classes i have taken in a while — LOVED IT!
STUDIO AMBIANCE:
small studio located upstairs in the plaza off Pacific Coast Hwy, same location near CPK. it was nice and clean with plenty of reformer machines waiting around to be used. i like that they had lockers instead of open cubby holes against the wall. in the next room over there were spin bikes as well.
CLASS/​TEACHERs: Being out of shape i was a little nervous as i know Pilates can be intense but super excited as they have the best /​latest and greatest reformer machines out there! Our teacher showed us the ins and outs quickly and got straight to it. WOW, i was dying! A lot of core, some upper and lower body workouts all in 40 mins… and boy that was an efficient 40 mins. She kept the class super basic which means i’m very out of shape bc of how sore i am or this class totally does the job (hopefully the second option!) haha. essentially it was a lot of resistance training using the machines.
SPECIALS: they have an intro rate for new comers — 4 for $ 40, meaning 4 classes for $ 40 that you gotta use in, i believe, a month. not bad for a badass workout!
PARKING: it’s off PCH but there is a private lot with tons of spots as its located in a strip mall on the second level. drive around to the right/​back and you’ll just need to walk up stairs to the front door.

I attended a free Unilocal class here in the morning. The class was one of their signature-​pilates like classes, but dumbed down for beginners since none of us had been there before.
I’ve only used one other pilates reformer, but I couldn’t spot the differences on this machine; it seemed pretty much the same as my previous experience. We did a lot of ab work (CORE 40, obviously) and some lunges. The instructor demonstrated most of the poses for us.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the music, but I suppose it’s supposed to be upbeat and inspiring to keep you going. The mic and music turned me off, but it’s a total personal preference.
I will say that the ab exercises didn’t seem that intense while I was doing them, but HOLY COW each and every part of my abs hurt the next day — so I guess whatever crazy moves on that machine were working.
I would love to attend more classes here, as the exercises seem to really target areas of your body you cannot get to without the machine. However, the prices are some of the highest I have ever seen, and it is most definitely out of my budget to attend classes here, unfortunately.
If you have deep pockets and are looking for a good ab workout, this is your place.

The workout we had as part of Unilocal’s Ten Day Stretch was pretty intense, and made me realize how much work I still need to put into my core muscles! The instructor was good, demonstrating at the beginning of class, then walking around to make sure people go the help they needed (like when I needed to have her remove one of the springs to lesson the resistance I was using on my machine). I definitely made a wet mess on the machine (the exercises certainly made me sweat!), so it was helpful that she placed the clean-​up wipes conveniently on each machine. I can believe the tagline for the studio: come regularly, and see results within just a few weeks! Great workout!

We had been going to a more traditional group pilates place in nearby Encinitas for over a year. We were looking for a better work out and felt that we were plateaued at the other pilates place. We were both a bit scared going in… intimidated too. We had our first class and the instructors were all very nice. They showed us how the equipment worked and gave us variations that were easier at first so that we could get through the class. After about 4 to 5 classes, we noticed that we were breezing through our pilates classes at the old place. We could see how Core 40 got us stronger and built up our endurance. We left that old pilates place and have stuck with Core 40 for several months now. All of their instructors are very professional and motivating. The music is great and helps carry you through a tough workout. You get it all done in 40 minutes and are completely wiped out.
I recommend the foundation classes to start, but then don’t be afraid to try the half spin, half sculpt classes. Its a great way to get your cardio in with core and upper body work too. I can’t say enough good things about this place. Great equipment, very nice studios, fantastic instructors (Desiree, Courtney, Jenna, Kim, Kelly, Dean… you can’t go wrong!).
Give this place a try… no matter if your a guy, girl, current or former athlete… all will be challenged and you will feel great when you get through a workout.

The workout is amazing. The results are amazing. The studio is clean and they have many talented instructors. I will never discredit the transformation that is Bodyrok-​Solana beach.
That said… I’ve rarely experienced such poor client service. The problem comes when circumstances require an auto pay cancelation. Double charges… continuing charges well after your cancellation… weeks of no responses from owners that would have facilitated an earlier cancellation and thus $ 189.00 saved.
$ 1000+ later… you’d think a client would be treated courteously. Not so.
Look…Bodyrok changed my body. I often went 3−4x a week. The burn is worth the payoff. I was a consistent member for 6 months.
But…I will never understand how 1 instructor had the gumption to tell me during class…“Oh, you have bad knees? This place isn’t for you”. I’m working to avoid double knee replacements and made that clear to every instructor and the owners long before committing to the monthly auto-​pay fee of $ 189.00. To tell me this in class… when I’m working my butt off. is beyond me. I could never stomach taking from that instructor again. Nor did I ever receive an apology in any way shape or form.
Workout 10 STARS. Customer service less than 1. Friendly environment 1.
I wish it were different. But I’m afraid this was my experience. I hope you don’t have the same.

I just finished my first spin class ever and it was more fun than I ever expected! I didn’t think I could get such a great workout from a spin class, but now I know that I definitely need some more of it in my life. The instructor Courtney brought on the energy, fun, and had a great playlist to boot! And this is coming from someone who is not a fan of exercise bikes. I still have to try out their SPX classes, but I always love those. The studio was new and clean, but a little hard to find (on the 2^nd floor in the corner), so get there early. I can’t wait until next time!

I LOVE BodyRok. I really really do. It was the first place I went to on my first day in the area. I knew I needed a place that would challenge me and BodyRok’s intensity answered my calling. They use pilates proformers and while I had only worked on reformers before this class, I caught on pretty quickly. Jenna was very helpful for setting me up for my first class. They also offer a fundamentals class where you can learn form and all of the exercise names (so helpful when the classes start to move faster through transitions).
The community is great as well. The space is minimal so you can focus on your workout. They offer combination classes like Sculpt and Cycle as well to integrate cardio into the mix as well.
