What a surprise! Not many places to stop along Old Canada Road 201, and we are used to the small town Maine Country store experience, so… we were very happy to make our pit stop here. Pulled up to fuel first and surprise, a young man popped up to the window immediately to pump for us! Inside we found a clean restroom, fresh hot coffee, home made whoopie pies, pop overs and other Danish type items. No-Bake cookies from heaven… and a little diner too! Ordered a pizza, fresh made crust, generous toppings, it was delicious! We didn’t have time to order a menu meal to eat there but seemed like a busy«locals» kind of place. Great experience!

If you don’t want to pump your own gas, by all means, stop. However, if you think you’re going to have a pleasant breakfast, keep going. The dining service is unbelievable. Places like McDonalds put this hole to shame. I’ve seen piles of dirt left in the middle of the room between dining tables, I’ve sat for fifteen minutes or more just to ask for a coffee. I have eaten there dozens of times, always hoping I will be able to eat there without them screwing up my order or making me feel like I’m being served by a bathroom attendant. The management is often there, and doesn’t pay attention or simply doesn’t care. I really wish this place was still under the previous management. You could at least get some creamer for your coffee or condiments with your meal. And really, that’s all I want. If you want a good breakfast, go to Thompson’s in Bingham. It’s only ten minutes away and blows Griswold’s off the map. The Solon Superette sells gas, too.

Let’s face it… almost no places to stop for food in the north woods of Maine. Was driving from Quebec City down to Bangor and found this place just on a random pit stop. Don’t let the small grocery store/gas station appearance fool ya… excellent food! Especially the breads(homemade) and onion rings. I got a cheesburger«club» sandwich. wife got a chicken sandwich. Both put together were a whopping $ 13! We had just spent a week dining in Montréal and Quebec and must admit that this simple meal, almost $ 50 less than what we had been paying the past week, was outstanding! I didn’t get phone service on my iPhone way out there in tiny Solon, so doubtfuly anyone in the area will get this on Unilocal, but was impressed with their food and hope someone eventually reads this review.

It’s a very simple diner, but this place served one of best raspberry pies I’ve ever had in my life. When I asked the woman where it was made, she answered«here» so I had to write a review about it!
