Dr J’s Bike shop is the best, I have a son with disabilities and Corey went out of his way to help find the perfect bike for my son. It took him a while but he found the perfect bike, which my son loves.

Dr J’s is a really nice bike shop! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and will spend time helping you find what you need. Full mechanic shop that can also fix your ride up as well. The owner is always around and works hard to make sure customer service is #1!

Mike at Dr J’s took very good care of us with choosing and fitting the rental bikes for us. I highly recommend this place and the ride really captures the beauty of this wine country

Saved the trip for me and my bike. Had a nasty rattle in the front of my bike and the owner was able to diagnose(rode the bike before repair and after) and even completed a recall for me. Amazing service.

I’ve been going to Dr. J’s for a few years now, and have always liked the service, the selection, and some of the exclusive solvang/santa ynez-related items that you can pick up. As a local, this stuff is pretty cool to me. I’ve now brought my 2014 Orbea Orca in twice for rear dérailleur issues(both of which were somewhat my fault). Now, as far as user error goes, it can be embarrassing to walk in with your tail between your legs whilst having to explain to mechanic where you went wrong and that you’d like them to clean up the(seemingly) gigantic mechanical mess you’ve managed to create. The two occasions I’ve had to do this, I was never met with any hint of a «holier than thou» attitude that I’ve experienced at other shops and that some *ahem* other reviewers have complained about. I’m usually met with a chuckle or a light-hearted«that doesn’t look good!» Maybe some people are ultra sensitive. I dunno. The mechanics are great(thanks Sam and Adriana!), and they’ve resurrected the same Shimano 105 rear dérailleur twice now(might be time for a replacement) and the pricing is very fair, especially for repairs. They had to order an Orbea-specific hanger for me, but it wasn’t a problem at all. Even when they received the wrong part from Orbea and had to delay my repair, Cory called to let me know that he had a whole fleet of rental bikes at the ready in case I was going to miss a ride. I didn’t end up taking it, but that kind of service certainly doesn’t go unnoticed. Great shop guys. Keep up the good work.

Out in the hills of Solvang, I’m an out-of-towner, from San Jose, and I’m really loving my ride. Wouldn’t you know it, my rear shifter cable snaps and I’m stuck on an 11 tooth cog. in the hills. Luckily with cell phone service, looked for the nearest bike shop, and headed that way(only in Solvang will this involve passing a miniature horse farm, so goddamn cute, you almost puke) I’m hammering, building huge quads, on my 11 toother. It’s hot too. Find the shop, I’m in a panic, because I’m trying to get the children to Disney before noon and due to this problem, I’m late late late. I pull in there, dripping sweat, ask them for *immediate* help, explaining my current problem. They got right to work. They put my bike almost back to new; the shifting was the best. The wrench spotted that my frame hanger was slightly bent, so he fixed it. And then he insisted on me waiting another minute so he could perfectly reapply the bar tape — I really really appreciated the attention to detail. They also insisted on saving me 20 bucks and reusing my old bar tape. I can’t even remember what they charged me, it was too low, so I tipped the guy 10 bucks which he adamantly refused, but I kept on insisting. If you read my reviews, I now have 3 awesome bike shops to use in norcal, central cal, and socal. It took a lot of wasted money and trial and error to find my shops, but they’re getting all of my business when I’m around.

I’m a local who believes in supporting local businesses. That said I will NEVER go to this shop again. If you’re in the mood for long condescending, preachy lectures then this is the place to go. Every time I go here, they try to sell me $ 200 worth of stuff I don’t want or need, then they treat me as though I’m 2 when I refuse. If I ask a question, the answer is delivered in a rude«you’re a dumb sh**» tone. Why should I spend my hard earned money here? Businesses like this need to understand that I CHOOSE to patronize your establishment, I don’t have to. I have to earn my money, so do you. I’ll drive into Lompoc where bike shops appreciate their customers.

This is a great bike shop! Several girlfriends and I were in the Solvang area for a couple of days biking this month, and we had excellent service from the staff at Dr. J’s(actually they have been helpful on trips in 2010 and 2011). Adriana Ortiz, in particular, helped us identify great bike routes and fixed my friend’s Bike Friday.

First off Sam is the best. He is the heart and soul of this place and he knows how to keep customers coming back. That cannot be said about the owner who finally has pushed me over the edge and I will never come back. He nickel and dimes you every time you go and he is extremely inconsiderate. I went in to get 2 spokes replaced and when I came back he took 10 out of my tire and said he did not have the right size so I would have to pay 100 bucks for them to order the right spokes or buy a tire for 50. I elected for the tire because I wanted to ride. I had 49 bucks on me and I had to promise to bring a dollar back in order to get my bike. My bike then just fell apart within 2 weeks for some reason but I was fine with it because I needed a new one. I debated on getting a new bike from here but I am a huge supporter of small businesses so I decided to do it anyways. My new bike got 2 flats in the first mile of riding it and when I brought it in to get new tubes I was charged 10 bucks for 3 min. of labor. When I mentioned that I was told that maintenance for 1 year was free he replied«Oh thats tightening stuff». He seriously is the worst. He is so lucky to have someone like Sam working there because if he wasn’t I would doubt the place would still be open. If you walk in and a bald, mousey looking person is in there then don’t plan on getting the local business treatment. If a long haired, tall person is in then enjoy.

We got lucky — this bike shop was right across the road from our hotel. We had just started on a week-long bike tour. Our tandem bike wouldn’t shift into the small chain ring and we had to walk up part of a mountain on the first day. Sam made an adjustment and it was better on the next day’s ride but we went back in the late afternoon to see if we could get a little more fine-tuning. Sam had left for the day but Adriana got him on the phone and she was able to get it right with his help. She kept the shop open at least an extra hour past closing and said she wasn’t going home until we were happy. Thanks, you guys rock.

I love this bike shop! The staff is helpful and friendly. I live in Santa Barbara, and will gladly drive to Solvang whenever my bike needs help because this shop is sooo much better than the shops in SB! I have an old Univega roadie thats been beat to hell, and they help me keep it in top shape. Money is tight, and they work with me to keep things affordable. Sometimes they even sell me parts at cost to help me out! These guys do great work and seem very honest and down to earth! No matter if you’re buying a new or used bike, accessories, or need major or minor repairs, I’d recommended a visit to Dr J’s: THE bike doctor of the south coast!

Sam saved my cycling year. I was riding the Solvang Double Century last weekend when my free hub body split in two and my rear wheel was done for the day. I got sagged back to Solvang, and waited for the shop to open. Since I work at a shop up north, Sam pulled a wheel off an employee bike and sent me on my way. He gave me his cell phone number and had me call him when I finished. The ride this year was miserable, and I was two hours behind the pace because I had to wait for the shop to open at 9, so I ended up not making it past the 160 mile mark, but thanks to Sam, I had a chance to do it. He made my ride epic.
