Bowling on a Friday night brings me back to middle school days.. . the only difference on this visit was that I was able to get there without parental assistance. Not much has changed about Friday nights out bowling. It’s always very busy, kids running around spending more time playing arcade games and scarfing down snack bar food than actual bowling, and a wait list more than 15 people long. The AMF Holiday lanes does a great job managing the crowds here. I had called ahead earlier in the week to reserve a lane on this coveted night. Did they have my name on the list when I showed up? Nope. Did they believe me that I had reserved a lane for 9pm? After much eye rolling.. . it seemed so. They accommodated me and found me a lane immediately. Their facility was clean enough, there were a good selection of bowling balls to choose from. They give you written directions to use the computerized automatic scoring system for the lane. After slipping on shoes with fraying shoelaces and choosing a house bowling ball, you are on your way. The snack bar is so-so. They have the usual.. . hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers, french fries, etc. They will deliver to your lane which is convenient. The prices seem a bit inflated compared to the cost of the game itself($ 2 a game per person on a Friday night). I had some mozzarella sticks and a tub of Sierra Mist. I’ll skip this next time. While there is nothing particularly bad about this place, there is nothing particularly exciting about it either. If your looking for a simple night out bowling, these lanes will do the trick. Perhaps during non-peak hours it would be more enjoyable. I can see myself returning here in the future.
