Guthrie’s River House

What a nice find while visiting Somerset for the weekend. The food was s good we came back the next night. Try the chicken scallopini, pecan chicken, margaurite flatbread or the Mediterranean salmon salad. All were great. BBQ mahi mahi and Chilean bass both sounded good also. Great location on Lake Cumberland and a great chef. Only disappointment was that cheap tables and chairs detracted from ambience.

Came here with my family for a one day vaca to Cumberland falls, this place was GOOD! If you’re here on vacation swing in for a great meal! Our waitress was awesome too!

We had been here twice last year when in town on family business. Knew we wanted to go back since we were in town yesterday. Guthrie’s still is awesome. We enjoyed the Chilean Sea Bass served over sautéed spinach and rice. I actually think it may have been risotto last night. Whatever, it was very flavorful and cooked to perfection. Others in our party had steaks. Nothing left on their plates either. Salad was fresh and rolls were savory, sweet, unique and yummy. Our table shared 3 desserts. Warm brownie and the key lime ruled. Shout out to our server Miranda for the friendly and efficient service. You rock! If you are in the area or even nearby Guthrie’s is a must. Enjoy the food, service, and take in the lake view from the deck.

This is my fourth time here in seven years and as always they knocked it out of the park! Crab stuffed tilapia was awesome!!! Service was great as always and the view of the water is to die for. Best part of these business trips!

Went here for lunch today. Would give a 3.5 but I’m rounding up to 4 because it was an overall good experience. Service was great. Started with the stuffed mushrooms. They were a little burnt and lacking in flavor. May have been an off day as the other pictures I see of them look more appetizing. Had a balsamic vinaigrette salad which was good. For my entrée I had the ribeye which they let me order cajun style. Appreciated that they would let you make customizations to your meal. Good steak not necessarily great. For my side I had the Au Gratin potatoes. The side was the star of the meal. Sat on the back patio and enjoyed an amazing view and gorgeous weather. I’ll be back to try some more items and see if there is anything I enjoy more. There were several different options on the menu that should appease any palate. Make sure to try it if for nothing other than the view!

The food was very delicious and the service was top notch. Found this place on Unilocal as we were driving through the area and wanted a decent meal. It did not disappoint. There was a bit of wait despite seeing a few empty tables. However. It was worth it because the food was good and decently priced. I highly recommend it.

I was in town on business and looking for somewhere good to eat. This place was recommended. There were 3 of us that went. They had an awesome Wednesday night special of a 10 oz Prime Rib for $ 10. It was very good, but they didn’t offer any aus jus over it. One other person got the Sea Bass, it looked very good! If I return to this location, I will definitely be trying that!
They have a nice deck that you can eat on when the weather is nice, that overlooks Lake Cummberland. I definitely would recommend!

Here in KY on business and just when I thought there was no fine dining near Monticello Unilocal recommended this jewel. outstanding service, delicious food and great atmosphere. So good, I came back the next day… Highly recommended if you are ever in the area.

First time eating here. Was told it would be expensive. Found out that the food is priced just fine for the area. The view of the lake was great. My wife and I ordered the sampler appetizer and it was good with shrimp, fried pickles, tortilla chips with spinach dip and also cheesesticks. We both got the prime rib with mashed potatoes. Everything tasted great and the server was nice. Planning on eating here again soon and trying something else.

Wow! What an unexpected surprise in a small town. 4 of us, different entrees, everything was EXCELLENT. Staff was outstanding. Can’t say enough, hope we get back this way.

Like this place a lot! Shiner Bock on tap also! My favorite dish is the chicken scallopini. Sea bass is a good one as well! Cool outdoor seating overlooking Lake Cumberland.

I had to spend 16 days in Somerset, Ky recently for a restaurant opening. This part of the country has gorgeous scenic views with mountains and lush fields but provides very little in the way of good dining experiences… Guthrie’s is a marage in a desert of fine dining. I visited this restaurant twice in one week. The crab cakes are amazing. The fish tacos are delicious as well. I just happened to stop in on half price bottle of wine night. Nice treat after a long day. Great food and beyond excellent service. Do not skip this place if you are in the area. Also check out the deck… Excellent view of the water!

The mushrooms were PERFECT, chicken scallopini PERFECT, and customer service offered by my waiter Jason PERFECT. No complaints here!

We ate here at 7pm on a Wednesday evening. It was full, but we got a seat on the back patio right away. The view was amazing. I really liked the salad, which didn’t have a hint of iceburg, and looked to be made that moment. The Crab cakes were even better, if just a bit small.
We had a New York Strip (cooked perfectly) with a loaded baked potato and the pan blackened Tilapia with shrimp. The food was great as was the service. That along with a great view made for an unforgettable evening.

This was my second visit to Guthrie’s and once again I was completely pleased! First visit I ate at the bar — excellent drinks and attentive service. My sea bass was delicious and the salad dressing was fresh and delicious. This time I had coworkers with me, so we sat at a table. Our server Megan was extremely knowledgeable and hospitable — we agreed we’d request her again as we are coming back tonight! The food she recommended was outstanding, service was prompt and we felt completely welcome to linger over our meals and visit. What a treasure this restaurant is!

Excellent meal, fresh ingredients and very flavorful. Excellent service.
Dined in Aug’15, group of 12 on the way to boat trip. Were a little put off by enterior — old cafeteria look, but food was very good.
Place is big and we saw a lot of large group.

The parking lot was full, so we figured it must be a good place to eat. We ordered catfish and salmon, and both were very good. Have an excellent view of Lake Cumberland, and the staff was very friendly. Great place to eat.

We had a group of 23 that ate there and the service was great! They do take reservations, so we didn’t have to wait at all when we got there. Staff was excellent and very friendly. You must sit out on the patio and take in the wonderful view of Lake Cumberland.
The appetizers and delicious and peta chips are delicious! My husband ordered the cowboy ribeye with bourbon glaze, which was to die for, very tender/​juicy and flavorful. I ordered one of the house favorites, basil Dijon salmon. This too was good, except they could have toned down the Dijon a smidgen. However, all in all, still a good meal.
Overall I will definitely be returning during my next visit to Somerset.

I’ve eaten here several times, but for the first time I thought I’d try their lunch. They do have plenty of items priced well for lunch. ($ 8.99 range)
Our Server, Samantha, was pleasant and friendly. She kept our drinks filled and was very attentive.
I ordered the $ 12.99 steak tips. And, like most of the times I’ve eaten here, the food was better than average but nothing exceptional. The tips were slightly overcooked which is fairly understandable when preparing tips. The salad was fresh and delicious. The baked potato was pretty much on par with any baked potato. I’ve never had an meal here that has been bad. Yet, I’ve never had a meal here that has wowed me. For example, with steak tips, it would have been nice to have a sauce, or perhaps mushroom gravy accompanying it. Tips by nature are usually dry no matter how they’re prepared. So, something to add some moisture to them (rather than bottled steak sauce), I feel, would elevate the dish.
I do love the elegant décor here and the view of beautiful Lake Cumberland! I would maybe like to see the table and chairs elevated to same level as the rest of the décor. But, that’s not a complaint by any means.
All in all, I don’t think you’d be disappointed eating here. And, I will return. Perhaps a nice Cab with a filet next time.

We arrived on a Thursday around 6:00 and the parking lot was packed… that’s always a good sign. I was surprised that we were seated right away, with no wait. I opted to set on the patio, with a view of the lake.
My husband was delighted to find KY Bourbon Barrel Ale on the drink menu, so I became the DD.
We ordered chicken nachos and a flat bread pizza. The nachos were some of the best that I’ve ever had. The were huge, they weren’t kidding when they said that it feeds 2 – 4 people! The chips weren’t like bagged chips, they were more like homemade. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, along with the pico and queso, it all was perfect.
The flat bread pizza wasn’t like a normal shareable pizza, it was a small and rectangle. We had finished what we were going to eat of the nachos, when the pizza arrived.
The food was excellent but the service was lacking. Our waitress seemed to be constantly busy, bussing tables and sweeping the floors… everything else but pouring our refills. My husband and a man at the next table over, both went to the bar to order their next beer. If I went back and got the same waitress, I would seriously ask for a different one, it was that bad. I would go back though.
