Great place to come for a public skate. The small ponds are great for practicing my figure skating and everyone is very nice.

The adult hockey league at Protec is a joke. The hockey director Rob doesn’t have a clue. I’ve played hockey in NJ for over 25 yrs and also played college hockey. The refs never call any penalties they just want to get through the games. I’ve never experienced refs that could care less. I don’t know if they don’t get paid the same or what, but this fall upon management because everyone I play with feels they ruin almost every game. There are forfeits all the time, and you are not informed about it until your at the rink. Intermediate/bad teams playing fully loaded D1 level teams, no balance at all among divisions. 10 – 3 scores are normal. Hello maybe these teams shouldn’t be in the same division. Most NJ adult leagues have a 2 loss elimination for the Fall/Winter league because its longer and one loss for Spring and Summer leagues, not here. Sometimes you can get your skates sharpened, sometimes you can’t. Its the worst league I’ve ever been a part of besides BSA, the only difference is the ice at Potec is alot newer then BSA. I’m not here to promote a better league so I won’t, its not hard to find something better then Protec within 20 mins any direction.

I joined an adult hockey team after years of loyalty to BSA. This was the most poorly run program. Rob, who is about 17 runs the program and does nothing to keep the teams informed of when they are playing outside of communicating with the team captains. I never received a team schedule or a single email from my captain. One player showed up to a game that was moved from its regularly scheduled time to a different day, I missed 3 games. Also the game schedule is crap, twice we played the same team twice in a row. Coaches don’t call anything in this non contact league – I got cross checked in the helmet and it was not called. Another player got into a fight and it was not called. They are not worried because they sold you the USA Hockey bullshit program which protects them from liability and gives you nothing of value.

I come here once a week on Fridays with the Rutgers figure skating club. I’ve been coming for a few weeks now. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The only con is that there is a lack of space. There are locker rooms where kids can put on their skates as well as change into their skating clothes. The locker room is not that big. Outside facing the rink there is only one bench in which children can change their shoes into skates. Upstairs there is a viewing area as well a huge sitting area. I have not really seen people up there ever unless they work at the rink. Parents are not that comfortable to be too far away from their children when they are skating.

Great ice skating rink that is open all year round! It is a really cooling experience to go ice skating on a hot summer day. And the skating rink is less packed during the summer months as well. Hours can be limited, usually 12 noon-2pm. But prices are a lot cheaper to compensate. Currently, they have a Groupon going on for $ 29 package for four people. This includes ice rink admission, skate rentals, 4 – 20 oz drinks, and one large 8-slice pizza. The cafeteria is on the second floor with a view of the entire rink. This is the home rink for Rutgers Hockey :) One full size rink and 2 one-half size rinks.

Pretty nice rink, comfortable with 2 nice cafes with the main one having an expresso machine. The fact they serve good coffee, gave this place an extra star. They have one full size rink and two half size rinks which is good for the young players development. This is not only the home of Protec Ducks but also the home ice for Rutgers Hockey.
