This place is definitely only worth it’s two and half stars. The service was pretty bad, the server was more interested in chatting with the other server than providing good service. The food was pretty disappointing and seemed cooked by an amateur. The only redeeming qualities were that the food came out quickly and the appearance of the bakery goods in the display case. I’m sure if I were smoking weed at this time that I’d go back and absolutely attack those yummy looking deserts.

BTO omelet was delish. Their english muffins are the best in town. I substituted for egg whites; got fruit salad in lieu it home fries and the english muffin in lieu of today. That came to $ 5 more than the regular version. Dang! Can’t afford daily but maybe a couple days a week.

Went here for brunch and was quite disappointed. I normally order an Eggs Benedict when I come here, and they’re usually decent, so I thought their other menu items would be equally as decent. Boy, was I wrong. We ordered a Cuban Panini and a Tuna Salad Sandwich. My Cuban Panini was mediocre at best. I wasn’t sure if I was getting mouthfuls of bread, or the meat was so dry and bland that I couldn’t decipher between the two. I couldn’t even finish my entire panini and lost my appetite before I could finish the first half. My meal was so bland I was probably better off staying at home and eating saltine crackers for lunch. We also ordered the tuna sandwich based off the picture on the menu(which looked super yummy)!! What a false advertisement! When we received our tuna sandwich, it looked NOTHING like the picture. Instead, we got two pieces of toast laid side by side, with two heaping slaps of tuna salad thrown on top. To top off our gourmet sandwich, there were two pieces of cold American cheese that looked like the Kraft singles you get from your local Shoprite. The cheese wasn’t hot, so it wasn’t evenly distributed on the sandwich. We were either getting mouthfuls of cold cheese chunks, or tuna mush. Overall, very disappointed with my brunch here. I’ve gotten better paninis for much cheaper! Most likely will not be going here again.

Got there at 4:30 on a Friday. There were about 7 cars in the parking lot. Went inside there was approximately 8 people dining in the entire restaurant. Was seated by a friendly hostess. Proceeded to sit there for 15 minutes without seeing a soul walk to the side of the restaurant. Walk to the front and advise them that no one had came over and they said«oh» and then seeing i was still standing there«sorry» was added. I have no idea how they are still open.

The food was poor but the service was worse. Not a smile to be had in the whole joint. Nor a second cup of coffee…

My boyfriend at the time and I went around midnight and we were seated quickly. The waiter was very friendly and even though we took forever to decide what we wanted, he showed no break in his great service. The food was good. It wasn’t amazing, but it was decent. It was typical diner food. The décor inside was interesting. It was some sort of nautical theme. There’s nothing special about this place, but if you’re craving pancakes or breakfast in the middle of the night, the ihop across the street doesn’t open that late so come here for them! You won’t be disappointed!

It’s hard to put how I feel about Somerset Diner into words. On one hand, their portions are huge and the prices are fair. The service has always been on point. They give a discount to Rutgers students, which is always appreciated. But, on the other hand, their food really isn’t good. It’s only… okay. Their breakfast dishes aren’t memorable. I’ve had their buffalo chicken sandwich with fries and that was delicious. Their smoothies aren’t bad. Nothing else really stands out. When asked if I want to eat here, I will almost always suggest somewhere else. It’s hard to avoid this place, though, because I live so close to the diner and if my family is lazy, we’re likely to just stop by here.

Went there on a recent Monday with my grand-kids on our way to a show at the State Theater in New Brunswick. I can’t tell you how revolting this place is. There were used napkins and other debris on the floor that the kids were quick to point out. We got the hot dog special for the kids — mistake! The hot dog looked more like a slightly larger overdone Slim Jim. The kids wouldn’t touch it. Have to say that the fries were good though. My wife had a chicken sandwich special which she said consisted of over breaded end pieces of chicken. My sandwich wasn’t too bad but how can anyone enjoy a meal when everyone else was miserable. My advice — stay far away from this place.

Leaving one star reviews is painful, but I’ve been here a few times and it really is just awful. Expect your service to be slow and your food to take 30 plus minutes. I asked about items in the salad and the server just said«I don’t know.» So I asked her to add tomatoes if it didn’t come with any. Apparently it comes with tomatoes and she just charged me for extra. Asked for dressing on the side and she brought it out drowned in their homemade balsamic that is weirdly sweet and nonchalantly said«sorry» when j pointed it out. Not worth sending in back since we already waited so long for the food. The cashier was the rudest person of all. I’ve honestly never had a good experience here between the food and the service. Try your luck anywhere else.

This was one of the typical diners in NJ with regards to the menu and décor. The place was very empty due to the weather so the service was well appreciated and the food also came out in a timely matter. I ordered one of the daily dinner specials which came with a soup, salad, and dessert. The special I ordered was the Caribbean Chicken Breast($ 17?). I went with the chicken noodle soup to start. There were plenty of vegetables and the chicken was very tender. The broth was tasty too. The salad was just a house salad. My only complaint was the abundance of shredded carrots. Besides that, it was solid. The Caribbean chicken was served with rice, spinach, onions, and mushrooms(I believe). This was real good. The size of the chicken was enough while the onions and mushrooms gave a nice compliment. There was way too much butter cooked into the rice however. I did not enjoy that at all. The flavor of the chicken along with the other ingredients and seasonings would have been fine with the rice if there was no butter. There was a choice of rice pudding or jello for dessert. I opted for the jello and I am glad I did. It was raspberry flavor(I believe) and it was great. It was just sweet enough. Will I go back? Diner rules do apply here.

Where to start? The food is by far the worst diner food I’ve eaten in all of New Jersey. To make matters worse, it took forever to get our food in the first place. The diner itself is also very dirty. While we were there, the manager Melissa rudely confronted another employee while we were eating. It made all of the guests in the diner feel uncomfortable, and completely ruined the vibe of our lunch. Never have I witnessed something so unprofessional before. DONOTRECOMMEND.

Worst diner food ever in my 54 years in NJ. Salad was disgusting… white lettuce, canned fruit and rancid walnuts with pre cooked chicken from who knows when. My mates burger was tough… it was served with cottage cheese, probably best part of the meal. The fruit slices with the cottage cheese were not fresh nor tasty. Both of us had the split pea soup which was lukewarm but not terrible. All glasses are plastic and counter pastries are store bought. Keep Driving!

Saturday; 12:00pm; two people This is the second time I’ve eaten here, and there won’t be a third. J&G South Bound Brook diner has better service, food, and fresh pressed juice. It’s worth the drive up Easton. The waitress was not friendly. She made inappropriate jokes, with surrounding tables as well as my table, and had a disagreement with another staff member, about giving a table paper cups without telling them there was a charge, while taking another order. It took about three-four minutes for our food to come out. The sausage skillet was barely heated. Some of the cheese(sliced American) wasn’t melted and the tomatoes, potatoes, and sausage were cold. The flavor was bland as well. I have a feeling it was microwaved and never touched a skillet. The French toast was below average. I am not sure if they make it in house, but I don’t think so.

We stopped at Somerset Diner after a late meeting. The place was clean and comfortable. The hostess and wait staff were polite, friendly and attentive. They have an extensive NJ diner menu. We selected some of their specialty sandwiches which were decent and served with crispy French fries, pickles and slaw. The sandwiches were more than we could eat so they supplied a box for us to take home. An overall positive experience. I’ll be back.

The food was average, and the waitress I had wasn’t very friendly(maybe it was just my waitress). She wouldn’t let me substitute anything, which is pretty weird, and one main reasons you go to a diner(especially if you have dietary restrictions). She gave us white bread when I asked for whole wheat. The home fries were bland, and had pieces of bacon in it(she knows I don’t eat pork). Save your money and go somewhere else

I believe the rule is to stick to the basics when ordering food at a diner, but I couldn’t tell that to my growling stomach. I decided to try the stuffed(with mozzarella cheese and sun-dried tomatoes) Chicken Marsala served with rice, and I’m so glad I did. It was really good! The chicken was tender and the sun-dried tomatoes were a nice touch. I took most of it home however, since the quesadilla appetizer was so filling. They were super thick, filled with chicken, and served with sides of guacamole, jalapeños, sour cream, and salsa. I may have missed something. Anyway, the food was good and the server was attentive. Overall, this diner is worth a visit.

I got the Gyro Pannini — which was pretty terrible. It was barely pressed down which is what typical pannini’s should look like, instead it was a glorified toasted gyro sandwich. To add insult to injury — there was barely any gyro meat, only about a slice or two added to it. The Gyro Pannini also had a GIGANTIC slice/chuck of Feta cheese which was way to big and salty to consume. Overall, the concept of a Gyro Pannini was good — but i don’t think the chef in the kitchen knew what he was doing.

The only good thing was the server. I’ve had better food by accident than I had here tonight. Seriously no good. I had the Ultimate Nachos and ultimately it was a fail. Chips were stale and they didn’t use real cheese. Chicken Dijon Sandwich was recommended and it was mostly lettuce. As a side note, I think it’s funny to rate food when there are starving people in Africa. That said, even starving people would be better off passing this place by.

Came here for a late brunch on a workday but the food was barely alright. First of all, I didn’t like the coffee and our waiter also pour the cup too full and I barely had any space for milk. I got sausage scrambler. Something in my plate tasted rancid– like they used oil that’s super old or something. Meh throughout the whole time.

Okay, I’ve only been there once, but coming from a city with very few diner-like establishments anymore, this was like a kitschy dream. We rolled up peak lunch-time hours and got the last parking spot. I felt like this was going to be a good sign. I tend to only order breakfasts at diners, so I got the Belgian waffle with a side of bacon and a standard cup of coffee. The waffle was light and crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside, the bacon was almost exactly how I like it, and the coffee was refilled. The only quibble was that the syrup was table syrup, but to be honest, I did use 1.5 packets of it with the whipped butter that came along for the ride. My guy had a buffalo chicken wrap(with fries) and couldn’t finish the whole plate, so I think that’s a good sign. We left full and they even give a 10% discount for Rutgers students!
