Note that as of August 2012 Benny no longer has a chair here(and the name of the barbershop has changed). Benny has moved to Best of the Best at 48 Broadway in Somerville. The new barber at 199 Highland seems like a nice guy and everyone I witnessed who walked off the street seemed happy with the haircut they gave him, but I haven’t personally used him. Best of luck to him!

I went to this place because I saw all the great Unilocal reviews. I was also excited that it was open till 8pm and that it was a very short walk from my apartment. I stopped in for a line-up this evening, but I have to say I was not that impressed. It was just ok and the person who gave it to me Was Not Benny. Anyways, this joker tried to charge me $ 15(the price menu is on the wall and clearly says«line-up $ 10») I’d say it was worth about $ 5. I told him I wasn’t going to pay him $ 15 and he backed down. I heard Benny is great but just make sure to ask for him and not this other guy. Unfortunately, I won’t be going back. I’m going to stick with the best which is Celebrity Barber in the south end. I always get an awesome line-up at a more than fair price.

Went to Benny’s about a 2 weeks ago and ahad a great haircut. Went in the morning so I didn’t have to wait. The TV was on and had a nice conversation with Benny. He’s a good friendly man and wants to know exactly what type of haircut you want. I explained how I wanted my hair done and gotta say I got exactly what I wanted. Couldn’t be more happy. Will definitely go there again and again.

It’s definitely nice to know this place is so close to where I live. I recently injured my knee and haven’t been able to do my usual amount of walking, so I was looking for someplace nearby to get a good haircut. My hair is very short so I figured a barber would do a good job and cost less. this place has a nice clean atmosphere and Benny definitely cares about how his clients hair looks, he takes the time to make you look your best. I didn’t get a strange look being a chic coming into a barbershop either. It was a nice relaxed atmosphere and friendly conversation. Plus a tv you can watch while you wait. I paid $ 22 which is cheaper then I’m used to. I’ll be back. It’s cash only here, so make sure your wallet isn’t empty before you arrive.

I stopped by Benny Blanco’s last night for the first time and I honestly have nothing but fantastic things to say about the place. Frankly, I’m pretty surprised that no one has written a review on Unilocal yet. First off, Benny’s open until 8pm Monday through Saturday. For someone who works until 7 or later most nights, this is HUGE. Secondly, Benny(I’m assuming that’s his name) runs the shop himself and has done so for 7 years. It’s clear that he takes pride in his business and keeps it fresh and clean. He also happens to be an incredibly friendly guy and, when you’re in the chair, treats you like you’re the only person in the shop. Finally, and most importantly, the cut is phenomenal. I’ve had a LOT of barbers in my life and none have been as thorough and attentive as Benny. As a self-described«master» barber, he lived up to the part making sure to ask about every detail(sideburns, neck, lined up? tapered? both?). I got there shortly before he closed up(around 7:50pm) and he had me in the chair until 8:30 making sure that every single hair was in its right place. I honestly can’t recommend this guy enough.
