Came here Sunday night with a friend. First off they had Rothaus Pilsner, a beer I drank quite a bit during my last trip to Berlin, so that was awesome. We started with a shot of slivovitz and the currywurst. The currywurst was different from they way I’ve had it in the past(sliced and covered in curry ketchup), but none the less great! The standout for me was the goulash. Up until now, I thought authentic Hungarian goulash didn’t exist in New England, now I know where to find it! The goulash was perfectly spiced, included pork and beef and came with plenty of bread on the side. I got the apple strudel for dessert, my friend got the Slovakian donuts. Both were excellent. Wil have to come back for more goulash and to try the other beers.

Bronwyn is fantastic! Food and service are both excellent and coming from someone who doesn’t eat much meat and hates potatoes that is saying something. The beer selection is impressive, I found a great German IPA and something more molassey, both of which were quite tasty. To start my group shared the pretzel. I noticed a lot of people on Unilocal say the pretzel was overcooked and the mustard too strong, neither of which I noticed. Thought it was delicious! For my entrée my friend and I shared the Spaetzle and the Schnitzel. Both were so delicious. The Spaetzle had an amazing crispness and the Schnitzel was so thin and perfectly cooked. Our waitress was so friendly and seemed quite genuine. Wish I got her name so I could give her a shoutout. Would love to return to Bronwyn soon!

Cool casual experience with exceptional staff and service. Busy Saturday night created a wee bit delay, but nothing intolerable. Menu limited but exciting for those seeking Germanic Tastes with a bit of a new look. Our waiter had full command of the menu and the wine And spirit list. We’ll be back.

First off I will say that if you are gluten free, this is probably not the place for you. Not many choices at all that don’t include flour, bread, coating, etc; but that is to be expected with German/Eastern Euro food. I got the Goulash which contained pork, it was a little salty but not overly so. I appreciated the selection of liquor — Becherovka, Barenjager, Kirschwasser. All semi-difficult to find at restaurants around Boston. Any German or Eastern European cuisine is a treat because it’s so few and far between in this area unless I make it myself. Overall nice décor and parking was easy.

Came back for late night drinks + dessert around 10pm I understand that restaurant+bars like to reserve tables for people who come in to eat, but there were plenty of tables open on a pretty slow night and we were squeezed in at the bar w/not enough seats — gotta dock some service stars here. Wide variety of drinks though(mostly bottles vs. tap) Dessert — Šišky — kind of like a donut. It’s fried dough and they have a filling for it that changes frequently. Filling is a misnomer though because the dough is more shaped like a shallow bowl for the filling. The dough is SPECTACULAR and this goes beyond fried dough is always good. The filling I had was a kumquat-cranberry filling that I expected to be too tart, but it wasn’t. It also wasn’t notable/necessary. I think I would have been happy with a plate of fried dough. Would come back for the fried dough(and the german chocolate cake from my 1st review!)

I came here for their Monday night burger special which was a beef brisket and bacon burger with a cucumber salad and fries for only 10 bucks! What a great deal! The burger itself was very good. A little too big(tall) to eat and I had to start using a fork an knife. The main star, however, was the wurst platter that we got to start. All the sausages had amazing flavor and it came with mustard that was DELICIOUS. We eventually asked to get that mustard to put on our burgers as well. We also were able to get our favor grapefruit beer that we don’t see often. Its a little bit pricey but I would definitely come back!

Excellent food, atmosphere, and service. Every time I’ve been here, my experience has been outstanding. Sharing the starters and mains family-style is the best way to experience the food and try a little bit of everything. The placky, langos, bretzel, and pierogi make a great first round. The schnitzel and konigsteller with a side of spatzel will easily satisfy four people. It can be a cop out to say that everything on a restaurant menu is amazing, but because Bronwyn delivers a very focused menu with a brief list of offerings, literally everything is delicious. The beer list is extensive and includes a couple cider options and small selection of wine. The schnapps and digestifs(particularly the Nux Alpina Walnut) are perfect for dessert.

This is my favorite restaurant. Always interesting savory spicy food. Great European beers, schnapps, ports. Appetizers, entrees, sides through desert is all excellent. It can get a bit tight inside on a very busy night but overall I really like the atmosphere.

Came here on a rainy Tuesday night. It was quite quiet. I spent some time living Germany so I set my expectation reasonably high, and this place sort of lives up to it. The German beer selection is great and is from all over Germany from Stuttgart to München to Frankfurt. They even have Kölsch from Köln, which is my favorite beer! They also have Riesling from the Mosel and Pfalz, which is not overly sweet like the stuff you get from California. The food menu seems to change quite a bit from what the Unilocalers here describe. Some of the items are not there anymore, or some of the accompaniments are replaced by something else. And I didn’t see the Reibekuchen(Potato pancakes with apple sauce) anymore. We got the Schinicken Sandwich, which is a chicken schnitzel sandwich on a bretzel roll! It comes with a side of potato salad and slaw. Perfect. Perfect. Everything on that dish. The pretzel is very good and it turns out that it makes a really good sandwich bread. My guy got the wursttrio, which I was skeptical at first because the three types are from three different countries. My impression is that German sausages seem to be quite regional, but all three in the trio are delicious and flavorful. Not the stuff you see in the supermarket. It’s very herby and tiny bit spicy. It seems pricey but it is really worth it. You can’t make this stuff at home. Or… find stores that have all three kinds of sausages? Also that Tuesday they have the prototype menu. The sandwich is on it. After tasting it, I told the server to tell the chef to put it on the regular menu. I will come back for it! We also had the chocolate cake. It was ok. will come back! will come back! ahhh I miss living in Germany. The beeeeer. hmmmmm. I couldn’t just swig it on the street and roll the bottles down the alley. But I will take what I can here.

Overall, I was incredibly pleased with Bronwyn. My colleague booked Bronwyn for a team dinner knowing that I love German food. It also happened to be Polish Independence Day, so it was nice to have something Polish there too! We started with a pretzel — it had the most DELICIOUS horseradish mustard… WOW, sinus clearing. My cocktail I wasn’t enthused about the flavor, but its my fault for ordering — I don’t even remember which one it was. Randomly, our waitress happened to be the sister of a friend of one of my colleagues from back in Maine… she was fantastic though! For dinner I had the goulash — it was a bit strange — more like a soup than a stew and not on dumplings or noodles, but with a bread-like bread. It was still very tasty! I also had a side of the spatzle — which was combined with cheese and fried… it was AMAZING!!! For desert we had tiny mugs of apple schnapps — yummy — and some giant doughnuts with pudding in them… If I were in the area again, I’d go back for sure. I highly reccommend!

Solid three stars. Sat outside in the«beer garden». I give them props for maximizing the use of limited space. It felt cozy and you forgot that an alleyway is just outside the fencing and greenery. I easily found a couple beers based on the menu — the 1809 Berliner Style Weisse by Professor Fritz Briem(gingery) and the Julius Echter Premium Weissbier Hell by Wurzburger Hofbrau(banana, orange and clove-y). It is a helpful menu in that the beers are described well and efficiently. Made choosing easier than it would have been otherwise. We weren’t there for a huge meal, so we got some food to share at the table. The bretzyl was good. Very salty, but I suppose that makes you more thirsty for beer, right(I’m onto you)! We also ordered the curry picked eggs(I didn’t try but the table agreed they were amazing), the Reibekuchen(potato pancake with apple-cardamom sauce) — this was crisp and delightful, and the pierogi. The pierogi had this smoked potato thing going on which was unique, different and tasty. Also, the pierogi were clearly on performance-enhancing drugs because they were like, eight times larger than any other pierogi I’ve ever seen. It’s a cool spot for drinks and snacks. A bit out of the way for me, but if I lived in the area, I could see myself stopping by more often.

After being to TW Food multiple times(one of the best restaurants in Boston), I had Bronwyn on my must try list for a long time. Tim Wiechmann(from TW Food) didn’t let me down with this venture. The moment you step into Bronwyn you feel transported to Europe the furniture and decorations and tons of imported beer. The beer is excellent btw. I am not a beer(bier) drinker, but even I found this beer enjoyable. If you like beer you should come here for that alone. The food is great and pairs perfectly with the beer. The wurst trio features 3 wurst’s house made all with their own unique flavor. The pile of sauerkraut underneath the meat is the best I’ve ever had and only elevates the meat. Fried potatoes come with this dish and are done just right. Most likely fried in some type of fat. they were super crispy outside but not greasy. The wagyu brisket sauerbraten was a bit on the dry side but was a nice piece of beef paired with some great fresh beets. I wouldn’t recommend this particular dish. We ended up getting a side of spatzle as we read great things about this dish on Unilocal. It lived up to the hype, think gourmet mac and cheese pasta. The cheese was melted onto the pasta in a way that they almost melded together to form one delicious bite. It’s pretty perfect and you should at least order a side of it when you come in if you like cheese. For dessert we had the donuts, they were good but not special. German food isn’t the best thing out there, but Bronwyn is serving great renditions of it along with great beer and worth a try.

— BOTTOMLINE: Pricey sausages. Awesome beers(with awesome steins). Would come back for drinks, but not for the food. — THESPACE: OUTDOORPATIO! Of course, useless for 8 months of the year, but it’s cozy and wooden. The inside of the restaurant boasts a bar space, but the crowd it attracts makes for a really crowded experience for the nearby sitting and dining. The first part of the restaurant has cafeteria style sitting, which I’m not really a fan of. We spent our first meal as unfortunate background subjects in our 6 co-diners’ selfies. The second part of the restaurant is more spacious, quieter, and has really cool chairs. Great for sitting on while you swish your stein back and forth and contemplate peasant uprising, etc. — THEFOOD + DRANK: $ 9 currywurst had literally 2 pieces of sausages. $ 6 pretzel was hot, but hard and overcooked. I got the blood pasta(oooh!). Great texture, but overall under-seasoned. We did enjoy the pierogi, but a really small portion for $ 19 potato dumplings. Favorite part of the meal were the desserts: german chocolate cake(is this actually German? My lust for chocolate cake overrides any notion of authenticity) and doughnuts. EXCELLENT beer selection, of course.

Bronwyn is a great place to come with a group! I like to order a few main dishes, a few appetizers, and a wurst platter, and then split. However, it seems like they’ve switched up their menu to discourage this strategy, which is sad because family style is 1) more fun and 2) usually cheaper. For example, they no longer offer a giant wurst platter, only a wurst trio, without the blood sausage and curry sausage, which were my favorite. :( Still, in any arrangement, the sausages are great. I could eat a whole bucket of the sauerkraut – it tops most of the kraut I had in Germany! It’s braised in white wine, so it’s more delicate than you would think. There’s a designated baker who’s responsible for the interesting bread basket and the huge(but sometimes tough) pretzels. Also, this may be a strange compliment, but the salad dressings here are killer: I had an awesome smoked paprika vinaigrette that I can’t wait to recreate at home. If you’re not a beer drinker, go for one of the seasonal shrubs(vinegar + fruit syrup with soda water). They’re a perfect way to cut through the heavy food. I also love the eclectic décor and the friendly service. I’d recommend Bronwyn to anyone who’s not afraid of authentic German food!

I realize that crediting a five star rating to just any restaurant is somewhat generic. I rate based on expectations and quality within a genre or price bracket. Bronwyn met my expectations which were held high and competes with the best upscale casual and ethnic concept restaurants in the area. The space is dark, simple, comfortable, and immediately Bavarian, or what Bavarian sounds like and having traveled to the region several times, not wholly caricature. Large kingly chairs, family style tables and a spacious bar don’t say Beer Hall but city tavern. It’s a small restaurant and between the design and friendly wait staff, you’ll feel like a regular. Beers on tap and bottled are German, but perhaps more of the drinks include wine, cider, appertifs, and high quality liquors. That said, a visit isn’t complete without a good and appropriately served –temperature and vessel concerned — Kolsch or Dunkel. Yes, a $ 10 beer on draft is steep, but so is a house wine at any comparable restaurant. What can I say, a goblet with a sweet and nutty dark beer does it for me. Dinner was itself up to my high hopes. A simple but unusual salad of greens, herbaceous dressing, candied nuts and pickled fava beans was beautiful but somewhat small for three to share. Thankfully, the house made pretzel and fiery mustard filled the gap. The rising menu offers certain staples like the thin but tender schnitzel; the garnish of edible petals was the charm. The obligatory wurst platter assisted by outstanding thin-skinned crispy potatoes and the best sauerkraut I’ve tasted anywhere. I enjoyed the blutnudelin myself, a conjunction of house made tagliatelle like noodles in a rich dark sauce and tender braised veal. Generous enough to satisfy and flavorful with fresh basil and now of nutmeg and clove. Ending with the German chocolate cake which within a magnificent pool of strongly vanilla crème anglais was a perfect finish. The experience is more memorable than the dish, bronwyn delivered both.

First off, I love the décor and general feeling in here. The tall-backed chairs and wall hangings give it the feeling of being in a fancy old living/dining room. It’s a nice mix of classy and cozy. The vegetarian options come in small, pricy portions but are so worth it. The spaetzle(however you spell that) was sooooo delicious that I wanted to eat three plates of it. So it’s more for the meat eaters of the world but I would come again as a vegetarian. The beers come in big mugs, so there’s little to want there. The pretzels are amazing and mustards are a good level of spice(very).

Food was good, but I feel compelled to point out(as a Polish person) that these are NOT pierogi. They are more like the love child of a calzone and an empanada — still good, as most dishes with carbs stuffed with something are, but it is just plain misleading to call them pierogi. I would give this place 3 stars, but I am adding one star because the raspberry Sisky were freaking unbelievable. I had a spiritual experience when the glorious combination of crispy yet fluffy yeasted dough and jewel-red, garden-fresh raspberry jam(more like a purée) hit my mouth. Service was great — I sent back my first drink and the waiter was really nice about it.

My husband and I met friends here on a Friday night at 9:30 with a reservation. The place was packed and has a very unique atmosphere— very dark European pub with some gothic furnishings which were pretty cool. Most tables have high-back velvet chairs. throwns which were saaaweeet! Food/Drink-The beer list is robust. I am not a beer junkie but it was a must so I asked the bartender to choose and liked whatever lighter beer I got. The rest of the table drank various beers and wine which were all well-liked. For appetizers we ordered the pretzel accompanied by a horseradish-RICH mustard that could clear a sinus infection. The pretzel itself was honestly just okay. I would order it again though because it pairs so well with beer. We also ordered the potato pancake – again okay but would never compete with a good homemade one. The obatzda cheese dip and bites were good as well but nothing to write home about. Mains!-I had the schnitzel which was fantastic but needed more pure under it as it was slightly dry without it. My husband ordered the Wurst trio which was amazing. I had serious order envy and will absolutely order that when we go back. Our friends had the smoked pork shoulder and waygu brisket which were also quite delicious. Dessert-the German chocolate cake is exactly as other reviews indicated – not what I was expecting but it was good. I wouldn’t order it again but it was nice to try. We also ordered the donuts which were potent with alcohol in that jam – woohoo! A serious kick. This place is something different in a very homey atmosphere. Service – Our waiter was impatient with all his tables. Just a weird dude that I don’t think really enjoys being in a person-facing role.

Great to finally have a solid German restaurant in Boston! Excellent décor with lots of dark wood that makes it feel like Germany a few hundred years ago. Great service, wine and beer lists, and, for the most part, food. Don’t expect a cheap meal here(easy to spend $ 40-$ 50 if you get a drink), but for the most part, you’ll be happy with the fare. Portions aren’t huge, but they’re usually enough. Great place to come during restaurant week. I recommend the pretzels(the mustard goes really well with them) and any of the sausages(wursts) they offer.

Awesome huge beer. Twice the size of my head! The Bretzel was amazing as well. Spicy mustard is quickly becoming my favorite thing on pretzels. This wasn’t as spicy as the one at Harpoon, so don’t worry! I also had a rosti which was massive. Very nice in summer.
