Chinook

This store makes me want to go to the North Pole and build an igloo. The clothes here are so warm and fabulous. Comfy, cozy, and warm — the top 3 things to be this winter!

Yay for Chinook and their quirky but awesome selection of outdoor clothes, hard to find brands, and knowledgeable owner. I could spend hours and probably way too much money here, and often stop in just to see what cool new things the owner has ordered. She always picks up on the latest athletic trends before the big players do (think city sports or REI) and stocks bags, boots, shoes, watches, and other necessary gear that you probably won’t find anywhere else. I just grabbed a kick-​ass winter hat made in Iceland, and knowing that it has passed the test of brutal cold and nasty snow there gives me some measure of comfort as our own winter approaches. Check out Chinook if you’re in Davis Square and support this socially and environmentally conscious local shop!

Great selection, just a little more expensive than some other spots to get
the brands they stock. It is worth the extra to support the local retailers.

I totally love this place. This is the epitome of shop locally for me. I’ve been in a number of times in the last five months. Upon every visit i have found the staff to be extremely helpful and eager to try and help me find what I’m looking for.
I do believe you can get these things cheaper elsewhere but after factoring in parking and gas or T-​fare versus a store I can walk to like Chinook then the difference in price doesn’t seem so large.
The only drawback I have found is that due to the small size of the store if you’re shopping towards the end of the season the selection will naturally be more limited as they begin to think about changing over the selection. It is just something to be aware of as you are more likely to be disappointed in September if you’re looking for sandals than if you’re looking for them in April

I can’t think of anyone else that I’d allow to sell me Teva Sandals, Horny Toad gear and Timbuk2 messenger bags.
Plus they have cute knit hats and decent prices.
