I wish I never started working Charles’ assistant, Saabira. Things started out well when my accountant recommended that I reach out to Charles(Chuck) for my legal needs. I needed help with some very basic paperwork: incorporation. Most firms have done this a bunch of times and can crank it out with very little trouble. Chuck and I spoke on the phone a few times and he was very helpful. He helped me figure out which business entity was the best fit for my type & stage of business. So I went ahead and committed to hiring him for my paperwork. That’s when the trouble began. I was handed over to his assistant, Saabira, who got the ball rolling. She started emailing me documents, then promised to send me more documents to sign«later this week.» Then radio silence. The deadline came and passed. I reached out after the deadline and asked, «When can I expect the documents?» I receive a response the next day, «Sorry, things got busy and it slipped my mind. I do apologize.» To her credit, the documents were included in that email. Still, I was not impressed; but I’ve personally missed deadlines before, so I figured I’d let it go. Then I looked at the documents. Red flags. For example, my nickname was used in the documents when my legal name should’ve been used. «No big deal,» I thought, and I pointed out the errors and asked for corrections. I was told to sign anyway and that corrected documents would come my way and I could sign again. So I sent those over in an email saying: «Please double-check my signatures. I’ve attached the signed docs. What’s the next step? Will my name be changed?» Twelve days later, Saabira responded to my email with another apology and an explanation that she had been on vacation. The email contained documents for me to sign, and when I looked at the documents, I realized that my nickname was still being used in some locations and now my business name was misspelled in a couple areas. I feel like when I commit to paying an attorney $ 2000 for basic paperwork, I’d get a better experience than this. Chuck was really helpful, but I’m really disappointed by his assistant, Saabira. If I can’t count on Chuck’s team to handle such a simple project, I don’t know how I can trust him to handle something more complex.
