A favorite place of mine to visit after a day of wine tasting, and I’m sure that I’m a favorite customer of theirs as I am a little loosey goosey with my credit card after some wine. I stop in almost every time I’m in Sonoma, both because it’s a welcome respite from the heat during the Summer, and a shop near the Square which actually sells things of use, rather than wine tchotchkes. Quite often they don’t have exactly what I’m looking for, but that only facilitates finding something new and interesting. Their cookbook selection is quite robust, and I’ve walked away(after paying, of course) with many interesting tomes. If you’re in the mood to just browse and meander amongst the books, this is also a good place to do so. I won’t guilt trip anyone about buying locally, but do visit if you can and treat yourself to a little something special.

In this culture with its paucity of enquiry, curiosity, and literacy, it is wonderful to find a location such as Reader’s Books that helps to mitigate those issues with such dedication. It is the center of our life in Sonoma. Don’t miss it!

I love that I can bring my books in for a credit, and the ones they cannot sell are donated. Being somewhat of a book slut, I can winnow down my collection while getting new books.

Bookstores make me SO happy, and this one was no exception! We happened to walk past it as we were exploring the side streets in downtown Sonoma. What caught my attention was their $ 1 book offering cart outside. I found two great books, so that was amazing! Also very smart on their part to attract a fellow book nerd as myself. Inside it is actually pretty large, although you really can’t tell from the outside. It is a lovely bookstore and organized impressively well. The staff is very helpful, but they don’t pester you. They know you mean business when you walk in, grab a book, and find a place to sit. While I didn’t buy anything else besides the first two books I found, I’m happy to know this place is there and will come back!

Love Readers! The staff is very helpful, if you cannot find what you are looking for they will order it for you. Great little store, always fun to browse through all the books! I love taking my 5 year old daughter here, she could spend hours in the children’s section looking for the perfect book to take home.

Reader’s Books is tucked in a quiet corner off the Sonoma Plaza. A perfect place to read and relax. They have a wonderful cookbook selection, they do special orders(and they will notify you)… and a great selection of used books. For example, the Russian history selection increased due to an influx of used books(cues Macklemore’s «Thrift Shop»)… including Ilya Tolstoy’s memoirs(son of Leo, the famous author) and William Shirer’s It’s a great place for obscure finds, and it’s really a deal, since you don’t have to pay shipping. The people there are friendly. It’s a hidden treasure in Sonoma.

Fantastic selection, fantastic people, right off the Sonoma plaza. A terrific bookstore, you can’t go wrong, it is nice to support small local businesses…

Reader’s Books is everything a real book store should be. Is warm, cosy, friendly, and it gives you the feeling that you want to stay a while. It isn’t a book warehouse like Barnes and Nobles and doesn’t have the«fancy» coffee bar. But it has great staff who actually know their books, each section has a great variety of books and if you for some odd reason can’t find what you are looking for they’ll order it for you. There is nothing better than buying a book here, having a friendly chat, grabbing a cup of tea from around the corner and reading in the park. Plus your four legged friend can come too. Those chain stores have nothing on this place.

Readers Books is a roomy, welcoming, and comfortable bookstore just off the Plaza and easy to find for those who care to look. There’s also a patio in back for outdoor events, a nice Children’s Section, and an area for well chosen gift items. Maybe the only thing missing is a Cat. I stopped in recently while Gayle was off buying stocking stuffers for multiple members of our Family(including the Pets of course). I enjoyed the friendly and relaxed atmosphere(on both side of the Counter) and only wish I could have hung out longer and had a chance to buy more.

Nice selection. However, the male owner can be brusque.(Other staff is nice). Also, they buy used books but it’s not worth doing — you can get more for your used books elsewhere.

Reader’s Books has a wonderful selection and very helpful staff. I enjoy that they host events in their store, and offer a wide selection of bargain books outside during the summer season. They are always happy to help me seek out something that I can’t readily find on my own and are always very open and engaging. I love that they stay open until 7pm, which allows me enough time to swing by after work. A great small town bookstore!

A few short years ago, I went to the midnight première for The Order of the Phoenix. (Instant nerd alarm.) It was SICK! The fact that this was the only place in town doing this lovely event, and that everyone was dressed up, was just a blast. Oh, and I made a bitchin’ Hermione.

Have I mentioned that I absolutely adore this place! What friendly people with incredible knowledge about what’s in stock and«If you liked that, then definitely try this» attitudes. It’s always such a treat to stop in here for a great new book.

A charming source of engaging books ranging from the unusual and engaging to classic and timeless. It’s the small bookstore that locals where swear by and support… and the offerings are so compelling! Fantastic for special orders and specific recommendations in a diverse range of topics. Give yourself the time to camp out and really sift through the titles!

My friend and I were up in Sonoma on an impromptu wine tasting tour, and we wandered into Readers Books with some time to kill before dinner. An excellent choice! This store is a browser’s paradise. Warm and comfortable décor, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and some of the best-laid-out themed/subject tables I’ve seen in a while. Even in subjects I don’t normally look at, like cooking and thriller and coffee table books, I was finding books I wanted to buy. I ended up with a stack so large, I had to set it down(on one of the many antique chairs they had sprinkled about) while I decided which books I would actually get. I particularly appreciated their system of marking used books with a dot sticker on the spine – makes it easy to tell what you’re looking at without always having to check the inside cover. I agree that they don’t have everything, but they are eager to special order whatever you can’t find. Also, as a bilingual teacher, I loved their well-stocked section of children’s books in Spanish. The only thing that marred the experience was a group of fellow travelers who had tasted enough wine to think that they were entitled to carry on a conversation across the entire store. However, I’m perfectly willing to write that off as a regional hazard! If you’re in Sonoma, go check this place out!

Exactly what you imagine when you think of a bookstore: inviting feel, terrific selection – chosen with care by owners Andy and Lilla Weinberger. Incredible slate of author events for a little shop in Sonoma, many held in the back patio with wine and appetizers. Kids section has good mix for toddlers to teens. Lots of excellent used books and they buy books. Andy and the staff are always up for a discussion, recommendation or to share a joke or story. Love the place!

Reader’s Books. Why, I remember coming through their door to buy my Bernstein Bears Books, special ordering Nancy Drew and back for cookbooks as I grew. It’s small — but well stocked and what they don’t have, you know they will order it for you — no extra charge, no problem. Open 7 days a week and run by nice Sonoma Folks. Who doesn’t love to support their local flavor?

What a perfect bookstore! Most of Sonoma Square is filled with gaudy trinkets and overpriced wine paraphernalia, but if you explore a little, you do eventually find some places of note. You’re not going to find a vast amazonian compendium but instead a carefully selected stache of novels, art, cooking & coffee table books, magazines, children’s books and a very good biography section. Go ahead and browse, it’s almost encouraged, but unfortunately there are no comfy sofas to plop down on. Well, maybe that’s a good thing.

Smallish bookstore, and a little pricey, but it’s the kind of bookstore that is inviting to all readers. The magazine selection isn’t great, but it’s there and they have a few titles that you rarely see in bookstores. I was impressed that the stuff they have tended towards the serious reader-type and not the typical stuff that is brought out to the average browser. The staff is helpful and nice. I found myself in a long conversation with one of the women who works there that led to several book purchases.

Readers’ Books is one of my favorite stops in Sonoma. Three generations of my family shop at Readers’ Books and we all are able to locate books we enjoy! In addition, I enjoy the guest author series they host. Readers’ Books really supports our community and I am glad to have them be part of our community. Thanks, Sheana
