Delicious and well priced sushi in Sonoma. Clean restaurant and nice quaint outdoor tables to sit at. Love the roll combinations!

My first time here was on Wednesday due to the fact that my boyfriend and I were craving sushi and wanted to try a new place. We got here when it first opened, and the place itself is pretty small-they did have an outside area as well, which was cute. I mainly wanted to come here to try the Sonoma roll, since it was something that had some unique ingredients. It had basil, crab, goat cheese, and cherry tomatoes! It was like nothing I have ever tasted before, and it was SOGOOD! I have had sweet dreams about this roll ever since coming here! The other rolls we ordered were the spider roll, and the spicy tuna-both were really delicious, and the ingredients tasted fresh, and flavorful. The spicy tuna roll was probably the spiciest one I’ve ever had(but that isn’t saying TOO much, since I am a weenie when it comes to spicy). Overall, this place was really good. I really enjoyed the space themed décor as well as the flavorful rolls. My boyfriend and I will definitely be coming back here again, and I cannot wait to have the Sonoma roll touching my taste buds again.

Although I have enjoyed their Ahi Poke at the Sonoma Farmer’s Market on a number of occasions, tonight was the first time that I had been able to go to the restaurant. Normally sushi at night doesn’t work with our family time table(my husband pouts if I have Sushi without him.) I am so glad that my son and I were able to visit tonight. My son had the udon bowl with chicken. He absolutely loved it. I had an order of the Nigiri Himachi and the Rocket Roll. The fish was perfect. Incredibly fresh and tasty. The seasoning on the roll did not over power the delicate taste of the fish. In addition, the size of the cuts on the roll were the perfect size. Too many sushi restaurants make the«bites» too big. Not here. As my son is eight, we had desert. It was also amazing. Mochi with homemade Ginger ice cream. We will definitely be back.

I’m torn on whether I like their daytime sandwiches or the evening sushi better. One thing is certain — both are absolutely delicious. Standouts include the fried chicken sandwich at lunch and the Sonoma Roll at night. Thrilled this place is so popular.

I’m giving this place 3 stars because the sushi was actually very good. The prices on the other hand were outrageous. Where have you heard of a California roll costing $ 12. I understand sushi is normally pretty expensive but for $ 12 I need more than 7 pieces. Do yourself a favor and use some of that money on gas to get to San Francisco.

DONTGOHEREFORLUNCHIFYOUWANTSUSHI! We went to have sushi for lunch based on the Unilocal reviews. The service and décor was fine but the dining experience left much to be desired. The lunch menu was extremely limited. It really is a place for poke and not sushi. At least during lunch. It would have been nice to have heard the emphasis on poke beforehand. The sushi menu had a choice of a massive 5 different rolls. Each was $ 12 which is tremendously expensive for a simple cut roll. At that price I would have expected a much more complex roll with more upscale ingredients. For a basic spicy tuna roll, that price is ridiculous. The spicy tuna roll and the combo roll(spicy tune and California) tasted exactly the same. Also served in a plastic tray! Overall totally disappointing. The seaweed salad and the beer were good.

I come here as often as I can. Often times I’m working late and pizza or taco truck was all my choices were… Until… Rocket Sushi! I’m so thankful to be able to get fresh healthy food late evenings after I finish up a painting gig. Jacob and Camellia are a super friendly old school mom and pop stop. Always happy to see you. As for the food… I can’t even describe how delicious. I didn’t even like sushi before I came here and now I’m a fan. I’m actually scared to try it anywhere else because it just won’t be the same. Sushi with a twist. Be sure to try the bundles of love and tell them I sent you. Bundles of love, Sonoma roll, Thai carpaccio Some of my favorites.

My hotel wanted me to drive 40 minutes to a sushi joint but I was not interested in going that far, so I went to Rocket which was about 4 minutes. Great choice, a hidden gem as they say. They’ve been open about 10 months and Jacob the sushi master is very well trained and has great creativity. Started with octopus sashimi and capers. Then eel wrapped in cucumber with this nice tangy sauce. My wife had some straight up spicy tuna roll which had great sticky rice. He said he uses a special wash on the rice to keep it sticky and nutritious. Finished with a piece of Blue Fin Tuna belly which was like butta! Great choice if your in Sonoma around the Mission Inn.

Great food nice people. I am visiting Sonoma alone, and at 9:30, I want some sushi. Rocket sushi is the closest sushi spot and one line in former review caught my eye: the sushi master is very creative. Well, I am all in for creativity. So I go to rocket sushi like no brainer. I walked in 30min before closing, so I sit by the bar(thinking it would be easy to clean if I am the last customer). The sushi master Jacob is indeed very creative. We started talking. He made Hawaiian inspired roll with mango and cucumber skin for me first. The sweetness of mango combined with thickness of avocado complement the scent of cucumber skin. It’s just brilliant. He told me he used to manage a restaurant in Hawaii for a year before opening this one. No wonder he could nail the Hawaiian flare so well. The next one is my favorite caterpillar roll. Very fresh. The highlight of the night is chef’s specialty roll: Sonoma roll. It’s a roll with crab, fresh avocado and a kick of cherry tomato on the side. Wow. Yes, it’s that good. Jacob asked me how was it. I said: it’s like you are by the sea and feel the nice breeze on your face. The veggies are very refreshing. He told me he invented the roll after he has one salad. :-) creativity indeed. He told me the sushi bar was very new. His wife Camellia(working in the front desk) told me about how they met each other in Tahoe and how they met again after three years in a bar. I can just feel the love and vibe between them. His favorite line is: see you tomorrow, which I shamelessly borrowed when I left. PS: when I was there, I chatted with one couple living here. The lady told me they are nice people to talk to and their food is awesome. I admit both are true. Sushi lovers, head to this place and you will not regret the visit. Chat with Jacob and Camellia as well, and say hi for me.

We’re from Seattle and know quality sushi. Ate here tonight, going for the Chef’s choice which did not disappoint. The cold sake selections were fantastic and we were even treated to a taste of Camellia’s fav sake that was unique and fun to sample. Love the laid back vibe of Rocket and feel like we stumbled on to a new secret!

We felt lucky to have accidentally found this place — and Owner Liz Heyerly. Quite simply put, a gourmet caterer having a deli? A godsend in a town without a great deli. But don’t just expect the normal sandwich shop or old style deli stinking of pastrami brine… no, this is a gourmet heaven. Her section of sandwiches is amazing in their artistic pairings of contents, excellent preparation, portion size, freshness, quality of ingredients… do I need go on? Summary: my wife is fussy and has a few food requirements — her first comment was«can we get lunch here one a week?» My answer was«hell yes!» Sorry I did not get a phone number — look for Rocket Sushi, then go into the parking lot. The deli is open for lunch when the restaurant is closed.

If you love average sushi, this is the place for you. My experience began at the sushi bar when I ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc(which was delicious) and 2 rolls. I was completely taken back by the ginger/wasabi that was given to me on the side for my rolls. The wasabi had so much water in it that it looked like a small bowl of green soup. While I waited for my food to come I noticed a tip jar on the sushi bar. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the sushi chef the owner? Perhaps I’m mistaken and if I am, my apologies. But I lived in Asia for 2 years and have never seen this. The rolls. The rolls were not tightly rolled, the rice was mushy and the tempura was not crispy I ordered another glass of sav blanc to wash away my sorrow and was informed they were out. My server poured me a glass of Pinot Grigio which was just as good(and a hefty pour) which was most appreciated. Service was great until the unthinkable happened. My server sat down next to me at the sushi bar, 2 seats down, and started eating her dinner and I am pretty sure was drinking. Being in the industry myself, we are accustom to eating in the back of the restaurant… before or after your shift. To top things I off I woke up at 2 am with a pounding migraine. My fingers were giant and swollen from all the sodium. I could hardly move them and I have skinny fingers! What is in your soy sauce or sauces for that matter? I eat soy sauce all the time and never had this reaction! I really wanted to like Rocket and was excited about a sushi bar in the neighborhood. In the meantime, I will stick to my go-to sushi place, Hana.

I can’t wait to go back to Rocket Sushi! Seriously. I’m what you might call a sushi-holic and I’ve tried almost every place in Sonoma County so I have some experience with the typical pricing and offerings of similar establishments. My biggest issue with a lot of sushi places is that the sushi tastes the same as anywhere else; nothing sets it apart to make me want to go back to that spot more than another. Rocket Sushi is NOT one of these boring spots. The rolls are unique, delicious and fresh tasting. I’ve only been the once so far but am looking forward to trying more on the menu. The Sonoma roll wouldn’t have been my first choice but I’m so glad we got it — it’s among the most unique rolls I’ve eaten; I can only describe it as an Italian sushi roll in flavor but it’s so good! Also recommend the poke which is really good. The place is kind of small so you might have a short wait to get a table but it’s well worth it.(I always consider a line to be a sound endorsement.) Try it for yourself and see what you think!

Sushi is my thing, I LOVE, adore, encanto SUSHI! Dropping into Rocket Sushi I had to temper my expectations knowing that we live in a small town and there was no way this little place was going to compete with my favorite places in Seattle, LA, OC, Hawaii etc. I was absolutely BLOWNAWAY! Rocket Sushi is the real deal! If you enjoy sushi for the superior quality fish, creativity and unique experience than you will love Rocket Sushi. We sat down and kicked off with some drinks, and what better way to test the waters than ordering your meal Omakase style. Itamae-san Jacob introduced himself and our journey began. My wife commented that the feeling of the restaurant was tropical, as if we were sitting in Hawaii, fitting since Jacob just moved back to the mainland from Hawaii. The first roll we received was a flashback to our favorite roll from SanShiGo using cucumber as the wrap, clean crisp tastes with great fish. As dinner unfolded itself each portion was a new surprise that had us wanting more. The best surprise was the Buffalo wing style Tuna Cheek, perfectly matched with the taste of the tuna, the sauce did not overpower the fish but instead enhanced what I consider one of the most creative fish dishes I have ever enjoyed. Can’t wait to go back and dive deeper into this place.

Guess who’s back. Rocket is open again for dinner — and soon to be — Brunch! And I couldn’t be happier. The wealth of talent in that tiny, beautiful place is unmatched. Sonoma, is a destination town, it’s gorgeous and there is NOWHERE to eat. That’s where Rocket comes in. There’s a small group of Chefs there, each has their own specialty and each shines to a blinding level. I recommend — well, anything on the menu, literally. My game plan is to go for the special. I don’t even ask what it is, I tell them surprise me — and that they do, and ALWAYS on a level of greatness! Asian Short Ribs with Wasabi Mashed Potatoes. I would not ever have ordered this for myself, but we got it for my Dad and whoa. The flavor of this dish is out of bounds. Wasabi mash — SO buttery and delicious, second only to those short ribs. Spicy, sweet, cinnamon-y sauce, tender and mouthwatering. Scallop Special; pan fried scallops atop tempura avocado accompanied by shaved fennel salad, mandarin oranges and cilantro all in a passion fruit dressing. Special is right. Tempura; prawns, broccoli, eggplant, carrots and onions all in a light, greaseless batter that is entirely fantastic. Bundles of Love; this is what you want to have someone who is timid around sushi. It’s a fried roll stuffed with crab, tuna and spicy rice. These are a game changer for those that aren’t of the sushi persuasion. Sonoma Roll; once you graduate to sushi fan, get this. Tempura shrimp, nori, rice, avocado and jalapeño in a creamy wonderful sauce. You could close your eyes and point at this menu. Each item is better than the last and it’s all terrific, inventive, fresh and beyond what you hope for in a restaurant. Rocket will easily be your new favorite place, It’s comfortable, friendly and affordable and what it is the most — fantastic food made by people who live and breathe culinary excellence.

A new alternative for sushi in Sonoma? Yes! We arrived on only their second night and were greeted warmly by Chef Jacob from behind the sushi bar. As we ordered Omakase(chefs choice) seated at the sushi bar, Chef began preparing one delicious bite after another, including an assortment of rolls, sashimi, and traditional nigiri. We found a wide variety of fish– all super fresh and well prepared. The service this night was timely and attentive, with the only misstep being the busboy who made infrequent appearances to clear dirty plates. The selection of hot and cold sake ideally complemented the meal. As for the ambiance, the sushi bar feels like a cross between Hawaii and industrial chic. During our visit there were two other parties being served at the sushi bar and all those folks were audibly heard to be ‘yumming’ their approval as well. The biggest issue for us is that it’s walking distance from home as this could get dangerous! Lastly, to reviewer Sarah O: really? You are quite a ball buster going to a family(husband and wife) owned place on night one and skewering it.
