We killed 6 different spiders our first night. The owners are old and put the place up for sale the day we arrived. It seems like its too much for them to manage. they were kind and apologetic but made no offer to give us a discount or part of our money back.

«PUSHTHEFINDBUTTONWHENYOUARRIVE» — that’s how you check in, gotta love it! This is a low key, chill, unpretentious but charming little place to stay. There’s no shee shee restaurant, no pool, no spa, no worries and no annoying kids(old and young, I don’t discriminate). What you will find is random lovely art(paintings & sculptures compliments of the owner/artists) both outside & inside your cottage. There’s a hand theme going on, the one of the screen door can be eerie at first but it’ll grow on you. You’ll find peace and quiet here: from the mature trees, birds waking you up with their lovely chirps to the very friendly unobtrusive service. They offer a cozy room with a good sized shower, an awesome simple breakfast including a couple scones from Basque café, fresh melon, yogurt, coffee & real butter & homemade preserves. I’d definitely return here if I wanted a nice understated room to sleep in after some spa treatments and/or wine tasting. It’s a peaceful and convenient cottage with character. Reasonably priced ‘for the area.‘ I gave it a 5 star not because it’s fancy, but because it was as good as it can get. I’d recommend coming here if, like me, you don’t do motels but also can’t fathom a $ 500 per night room.

Starwae is a great place … understated and artistic! The owners. John and Janice, are wonderful people. Over the years, I have attended a few of their special events and workshops. Each one was memorable and interesting. While the inn is not fancy, it is practical. Like staying at grandma’s house.

I attended a two day workshop here, conducted by SARK– the author of several books like«Wild Succulent Women» and«Prosperity Pie». I expected the retreat center to be sort of hippie-dippy and maybe not that organized, but my worries were soon stomped out as I drove down Highway 12 and saw several signs out on the highway and up the driveway for the workshop. Good ‘signage’ is a ways a boon to me. The property is right on Highway 12, so it’s convenient to access and drive into town from, but that’s not a very busy highway so there’s not much noise from the road. As per usual in Sonoma you’re not far from vineyards or a grazing animal in some pasture or paddock. The landscaping is well established and pretty, though not very formal. This has been the home and workspace for John and Janice Crow for many years. They are both artists and have lots of their art on the property and hanging in the geodesic dome where the workshop itself was conducted. They are both so hospitable and sweet, they have lots of suggestions and resources of things to do and see in Sonoma, if you are staying there I’m sure they would be lovely hosts, they were lovely for the two days I was there. John did all of the cooking for our group and the food was wonderful! Very special people, a vibrant place to go and be creative and learn new things. Love you guys!

A very eclectic B&B just south of Sonoma. The couple that owns it have been artists for… well, forever… and are continually creating new pieces that are distributed throughout the rooms and surrounding yard. We’ve stayed here multiple times, and each time has been a great experience. My wife also spent a weekend with Sark at Starwae, and loved that as well(I think that’s an annual event, but not sure). You can’t go wrong staying here… it’s a good place run by good people.
