I went to get Lumber, and I wasn’t allowed to pick through 5 boards before the guy said I’d have to pay more to keep looking. I explained I’m steam bending wood so it needed to be pretty flawless. Then he tried to pass off cracked and extremely hole ridden boards as «pecky». I didn’t ask for pecky, and I know the difference. I ended up paying 16 for 2 boards but I will not be returning as I’m pretty sure he was the owner and service means everything.

Picked up a custom made 6ft bar made of pecky cypress and red cypress. Unique one of a kind that’ll always be a topic of discussion. Thank you JandScypress!

After a morning spend tooling around Lake County and visiting Mt. Dora for some antique shopping, we happened upon Cypress Things on the way to Lake Mary. This was a very nice surprise. The main business of J&S Cypress is farming and milling wood. They then opened a store on site, Cypress Things, that showcases all of the different kinds of furniture, decorations and knick-knacks that can be made from this beautiful and sustainable wood. They have high end lacquered furniture, outdoor chairs and seating, really anything you could want. We were attracted by the old and weathered drift wood type pieces. Some were huge — spanning 6+feet. We found a perfectly sized piece for our bedroom. Excellent. The staff is very friendly, as is the house poochie. Be sure to stop and browse for a while, you will certainly find something you like.
