Hertz Rent A Car

After our last stop in South Bend (and the lousy service at National Car Rental/​Enterprise), we decided to try out Hertz. It was absolutely the correct decision. Quick service, attentive staff, and a way nicer car than we had reserved.
If you happen to fly through South Bend, this is by far the best rental company.

A traditional reason to go with Hertz was quality service. I rented a midsize SUV Jeep in Mishawaka and returned it to the airport in South Bend. There was one man behind the counter, serving both foot customers and phone. I was the only one in line. He took the two keys I handed over and sent me on my way. He could not confirm that a shuttle bus to Ohare Airport picked up passengers a stone’s throw away. All he knew, said he, was Hertz and at the moment he expected more people coming in for cars than he had rentals. Days later when I got home, I found one of the two rental keys on my ring and no key for my car. I’m still trying to find what happened to my key.

I have only rented from this location once (dropped off a couple of times) but that is all it took. I have a corporate contract so you don’t have to worry about the walk around because the insurance is included and I’ve never had a problem with other rental places, this location was another issue.
The car they gave me had been in a collision and the front end was banged up. I drove a couple hours away and the car shook every time I came to a stop from anything over 35 mph. I was renting this car for 2 weeks, with lots of highway driving, I couldn’t believe they had sent me out in a car that was not road worthy. The SB office tried to blame the damage on me since the sign-​out sheet hadn’t been marked (I thought it had been) and nobody had initial it. When I exchanged the car in Indianapolis, the agent informed me the SB branch had a reputation for sending out bad cars and generally being lazy and cheap. He switched it out for me and I had no problems after that.
After returning the car I had to wait to talk to the right person who finally agreed to give me a 2 day refund on my rental. It should have never happened! Yes, I should have been more careful. Next time I will, I’m not renting from this location EVER again. I’ll stick with other companies who are more concerned about safety.

My girlfriend and I stopped here unexpectedly after we realized that through various loopholes we were driving uninsured and had to switch our reservation to another credit card to get the company’s insurance coverage for a rental. Long story short through a stressful situation MICHAEL working at Hertz was so amazingly helpful, friendly and went out of his way to provide us with really great service. To the stranded motorist passing through he was a lifesaver! Thanks!
