Went in on last Saturday during live music. Me and two friends sat at the bar for five minutes before I finally walked over to the girl 4 feet away from us who had helped three people that walked up after me. I asked«so is the bar not open?» She replied«yeah, but I can’t serve it.» I said okay, can you get someone who can?! She sent another employee who was also under 21 to go find the single person who could serve alcohol. A couple of minutes later he came back stating«she is training a new employee right now so it’s going to be a while.» What?! Great customer service. We left.

The female at the counter was extremely rude. She was more concerned about texting on her phone than serving the guests waiting in line. Tried to explain that my flight was leaving soon and just wanted a sandwich maybe a cup of coffee. Seems I was bothering her and she gave me unwanted attitude. Fyi she said her name is Lotoya very rude…

Inconsistent service and they often act like they’re doing you a favor by waiting on you. They«eat through» managers as if they were chocolate and wouldn’t recommend the place. Sadly, great location.

Great chocolate and a fun environment. We went during Christmas and they had Santa, the grinch, and a lot of fun things.

Since my boyfriend and I were walking around downtown, we decided to stop in and get ourselves some ice cream and some coffee. As soon as we walked in the ice cream shop part of the store all we could see was the person behind the counter on her cell phone and laughing at whatever she was looking at. After that we went to get some coffee, the two people behind the counter started laughing suddenly while we were still up there paying. My boyfriend asked if he missed something. The lady, that looked like a manager said, ‘oh no.’ As we were getting our creamer we heard them talking about the situation and continue laughing. I don’t know if what they were laughing about was us but obviously they need to be re trained on when and where it’s appropriate to laugh at whatever inside joke you have. Worst customer service I have ever received.

Coffee pots have spilt coffee all over them. Coffee was cold as well. Food just laying around on the back counters with dirty knives. Gross environment.

Wow, what an amazing number of toxic bad for business elements at work here! How do they stay open?! The ignorant masses. Tourists, and ND game day suckers, that’s how. I was there about a week ago, oh my God, the seemingly 13 year old girl behind the counter could barely keep focused long enough to take my order, I had to keep correcting her when she read it back to me. Then the helicopter mom with her 3 overprotected kids were yowling at the top of their little lungs. Took 25 minutes to get my order, which was only a coffee and a sandwich. Sandwich tasted like it was made a week ago, and both were crazily overpriced. Worlds largest my ass, more like world biggest gyp!!! I will never go back here!

Stopped in today. Not my first visit. It’s nice to have the café and kids play area. I have also had my daughters B-Day party there before with a good experience. Today was slightly one off. Not perfect but any mistakes were quickly corrected. My burger was pink, and they cooked a new one. My son had the kids pb&J kids meal, daughter had the grilled cheese. she didn’t like it, so they made her a pb&J also. friendly staff. Would defiantly recommend stopping by, for coffee, chocolate, candy, café, or kids play area. it’s all there. One suggestion if the owner reads this, please bring back kids eat free on Sunday’s(with purchase of adult meal). Thanks

Chaotic environment and the staff makes it far worse than it needs to be. Had to repeat my order three times because the cashier kept drifting off 3 seconds into me speaking to him. The order came out wrong, not even close. I went to counter to try and remedy the situation and was interrupted by one of the counter workers with a hyper-aggressive sales pitch, pushing«60% off of valentine’s day candy». Take my advice, skip this fallen local institution and go to IHOP. (To be clear IHOP is terrible but is light years ahead of this place).

Who doesn’t love enjoying some locally made hot chocolate on a cold, snowy day, by comfy couches and a fireplace, with some tunes from local musicians? It was a great way to end my first time to South Bend. I had a very«typical» or «normal» experience. The staff were friendly, the tunes were great. My only complaint: my dark chocolate Mexican hot chocolate was simply not good. I’m not sure what happened, but I was very saddened by the lack of flavor. It just didn’t have any taste and it was hardly even hot. Lukewarm was more suitable. But, I was very happy that they had the live tunes playing.

The spin. and art. dip was good but too oily. The food isn’t superb, but for a café in south bend it’s pretty good. Though, the food and beverages are over priced, especially if you’re a high school student. Also, my friends and I went there late at night. If they close the store and playset part of the café then pay for fixing the back door. Someone could easily break in. If you don’t want to invest in new locks, then at least print out a sign to hang up on it by the bathrooms saying«closed» or «open».

Overpriced chocolates and horrid coffee. Don’t give their staff breaks and I’ve seen the owner berating a cashier telling her to treat her job as if she«is serving God himself». No thanks!

Awesome service and selection at the SB Chocolate Company Chocolate Café. The building really has five or so parts including a candy shop, a coffee house area where live acts play, a bar area, the chocolate side and then the educational side. I will focus on the bar and chocolate sides because that is how I roll(well sans the bar). The chocolates here are excellent. Turtles or pecan caramel clusters or whatever they are called to avoid a trade mark infringement suit are spectacular. They are small and sweet. The caramel is super soft and melts in your hands, given the opportunity. The selection is awesome but it is pricey(well worth it though). The bar has pretty much any soft drink you can imagine that isn’t mainstream as well as hot chocolate, coffee etc. My son got a massive hot chocolate and downed it immediately. I opted to check out their unique soda selection. This place is a huge A+ and South Bend is lucky to have it downtown. Bring a lot of money because $ 20 a pound chocolate(at least in November 2015) isn’t cheap but it is awesome!

Food quality is pretty good, chocolates are fine. I personally dont care much for chocolate or candy in general. Counter service can range from friendly and enthusiastic to dumb and unhelpful. Prices are generally pretty high for what you get. In the last couple years The SBCC has taken to branding itself and buying businesses like Studebagels and replacing them w its wierd idea of a coffee house that sells lots of things wrapped in cellophane. They also recently placed a Chocolate Café inside the South Bend Clinic… which is great for The SBCC but it means the staff at the Clinic has to endure super high prices… like an 8 dollar salad. I don’t mind the SBCC, I just wish they wouldn’t take over unique businesses and vomit out another cookie cutter store selling overpriced coffee and branded goods. We live in South Bend, we know about the South Bend Chocolate Company… go evangelize other towns with your candy.

What an awesome experience I had here today. I took my 1 year old for a quick breakfast treat before we headed over to Health Works for a day of fun. We have been to the Mishawaka location before and had a less than stellar experience… but this morning at the downtown South Bend location was awesome. When we walked in, we headed straight to the muffin display case where we struggled to choose between mouth watering varieties like cappuccino, pumpkin(with cream cheese filling), blueberry, chocolate chip, and more. We settled on the banana nut. I also ordered a bagel sandwich with bacon, cheddar, and egg. Then after sharing with our server Alex that I needed a pick me up(as if he couldn’t already tell from my messy bun and tired eyes :)) he suggested a vanilla latte. The 16 oz has two shots of espresso– a comforting tid bit he also shared. The muffin and espresso came out super fast. So we took a seat to wait for the sandwich. The muffin was so soft. The banana flavor was intensely delicious. The glaze and nuts on top were just sweet enough(not too sugary) and I was sad I had to share with the baby :) When the sandwich came out the bagel was just crisp enough, the cheddar was sharp and complimented the salty bacon and eggs perfectly. To finish it all out, I was highly impressed with the service. Even though my daughter made quite the mess of her muffin(and even ran behind the counter once when I turned my head for 2 seconds– we don’t go out much lol) the staff was gracious and kind. Even the staff I didn’t interact with looked happy to be there and seemed willing to go out of their way to help customers. Thanks for an awesome start to our day Chocolate Café!

This place surprised me a lot. I am shocked that i walked out happy. My friend invited me along to eat with him at this place and at first I was extremely upset. I was up the night before worrying about what to do. Do I pack a sandwich in my bag? Do I eat a real lunch before? I was overwhelmed at the uncertainty of the situation. How could someone eat only chocolate for a meal? Like maybe include some other foods other than chocolate at the Chocolate Café. I must have come in on a special day where they serve regular food. There was chocolate there of course but I went with the grilled cheese. I’m happy that I went the time I did because I was worried that I was going to be stuck eating only chocolate. My suggestion would be to change their name so it’s not as misleading. The Chocolate Café is nice and all but maybe include other foods that you sell in the name. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who thought that you could only eat chocolate here.

Two weeks ago an earnest new employee was handing out pretzel samples on the street, and convinced me to get my espresso at the Chocolate Café instead of at Chicory. I was swindled. First, a double espresso costs more than $ 3 here. Second, it wasn’t espresso: I think their machine is leaky – my 12oz cup was filled halfway, and it tasted like an Americano, weak, no froth on top. I asked the barista about it and she said, «It seems fine to me.»(A barista who doesn’t know what espresso is??) To her credit she did make me another one free of charge. Very not-to-her-credit: it was exactly the same. It wasn’t worth the trouble, so I left. I’ve been here a handful of times, and every time I felt like I’d paid too much for what I got. The Chocolate Café is ALMOST redeemed by their great milkshakes, but not really, because they cost $ 6.

How can our trip be complete without a stop here? I got the chocolate tea which felt good to my sore throat. The kids split a huge chocolate sundae and chocolate cheesecake and some other desserts. They also have lunch options like soups and sandwiches. The prices seemed very reasonable to a Chicagoan.
