Excellent meal. I had a herring appetizer and sampler platter. The beers had a long German name. The picked herring was delicious. Herring is strong so be prepared. The main sampler meal was a collection of sausage schnitzel and beef with purple cabbage and sour kraut. It was all very good. The total bill(without tip) for the two beers, appetizer, and entrée was $ 40.00. I didn’t consider it expensive or cheap.

Wonderful. Delicious German food with friendly, attentive service which included a visit by the German owner to our table. Authentic Bavarian menu & beer choices rival that of a Munich dining room. Fresh baked desserts capped off a delightful evening.

Oh. Man. My mouth is still watering, even though I’ve finished every morsel on my plate, because this was the tastiest meal I have had… maybe ever. I’ve never really had German food, but I’m now considering applying for citizenship, based solely on their noms. The atmosphere is pleasant and quaint. You just need to try it.

Went here today for lunch. Food was outstanding and priced right. I would definitely go back. It ordered the schnitzel and it had excellent breading, was cooked right. The potato salad was awesome. Service was excellent.

I think going here 3 times in less than a week should get me a table with my name on it right? I kid, I kid. This place is great! Food is authentic(or so I’m told by people who’ve lived in Germany). Atmosphere is chill and portions are… ridiculously large. Love it! Spaetzle, snitzle, brats, sauerkraut, potato salad, beer and other German things I can’t pronounce but are sort of my favorite things(I know it’s not Austrian, calm down) are all amazing. And the BLACKFORRESTCAKE!!! I have very fond memories of this cake growing up and the Weiss Gastaus did not disappoint. Our next visit will be on a Saturday(Not this Saturday though. Don’t want the novelty to ware off.) I want to try their rabbit special and it is Saturday thing only.

This place is a hidden gem of South Bend. The staff is great. I rarely get desserts but I definitely recommend it here.

My family and I were looking for some warm comfort food after the Niles Hunter Ice Festival. The restaurant was warm and cozy without being over crowded and the food was delicious too. We left stuffed and stayed that way unlike some meals out where an hour later you are hungry again ;)

Excellent German cuisine! Had brunch on Sunday it was very good. Had the schnitzel and potatoes, wife had the breakfast sandwich and the boy had the potato pancakes all were very good. Of course had to wash it down with a bitburger brew. If your on the area it’s a good stop. Also, if you like mushrooms get the jäger sauce with the schnitzel. Oh, almost forgot the homemade bread, amazing!

Weiss has a fairly small regular menu. We had the potato pancake appetizer, which was good. the pancakes were like my grandmas, and were served with sour cream and some house made appple sauce. I had octoberfest and kolsch to drink. The beer at Weiss’s is served a little warmer than most Americans are used to… if you like your beer ice cold you wont be happy. My daughter had schnitzel served with kraut, mashed potatoes and green beans. I had split pea soup, and rouladen served with spaetzle and sweat and sour red cabbage. Her schnitzel was huge, breaded and fried perfectly. not greasy at all. the kraut served with it was good… the mashed potatoes were a little on the dry side. My rouladen was made with beef and proscuito, served on a bed of some of the best spaetzle I have ever had, and some delicious sweet and sour red canbage. Overall Weiss Gasthaus is a good value, and the food was quite tasty. They supplement their smaller regular menu with some decent specials. my daughter and I had such a good time listening to the accordion player, and enjoyed the food so we will be back soon.

I was pretty disappointed with my food along with the whole experience. We waited too long, there wasn’t a lot of seating and the atmosphere was just okay.

Visited last Friday night. Authentic. Schnitzel, herring, pigs feet, and service was very good. Currywurst appetizer wasn’t up to par in my opinion. They were out of a couple of beers and wine selection limited. But, had a comfortable atmosphere, and really, how many authentic german restaurants are out there…

My tummy feels so yummy. I just went to Weiss’ Gastaus with my mom and my husband, and it was perfect. Here in South Bend, this is like a beautiful flower growing out of the rocks. I was transported… to Bavaria. We got the wiener schnitzel, hasenpfeffer with sausage, and pork tenderloin in paprika cream sauce. Tender meats, hand-mashed potatoes, and divine gravies were the centerpieces of the meal. They did things with paprika I’ve only dreamed about, and I washed it all down with a sweet hefeweizen. Dessert didn’t disappoint either. Cherry streusel and bienenstich(bee sting cake?) were both heavenly. Yum yum yum.

We were driving through to Chicago and stopped for dinner. Should have kept driving. It took 20 minutes to get a beer. The waitress might have hated wearing her costume so much, it projected to her work performance. The busser was wearing pajama pants and a t-shirt that said she would work for chocolate. The potato pancakes were good. The salad was lettuce. The wurst was unimpressive and my husband’s wiener schnitzel was dry. My son got the mini burgers… ever go to a 7⁄11 when on a bender and get one of the freezer cheeseburgers to microwave? You get the idea. Don’t bother… go to Taco Bell.

This place was excellent, I love kraut so I was excited to finally try the food here. I tried the wurst sampler, and it was not the wurst! Pun! My husband had the wiener Schnitzel, I tried a bite and it was very good. We also ordered a side of spatzle and it was amazing. The only thing our party did not care for was the black forest cake. The atmosphere here was like going to Grandma Frau Farbissina’s(pop culture reference) for some home cooking from the old country. There’s a seating area in the front with a chess board and a piano. It’s very quaint indeed!

I got the cabbage rolls, which were on special today. The food that arrived was obviously all homemade, nothing canned, and it was so delicious. From the road, this restaurant looks very small, but when you get inside, it’s quite big! Will go back again soon. My husband is also eager to have some German brew. :)

Chicken Cordon Bleu. Sounds French of course, but we lived on it in the Army in West Germany. These folks did not dissapoint. If you’ve not had it German-style you owe it to yourself. Wish I had snapped a pic but I dug in the second it hit my table. Enjoy!

This is a solid restaurant, especially for lunch. We went here last week and were able to get two lunches and a drink for 15 bucks before tip — not bad for a sit down joint. The food. Ordered the Reuben with potato salad, which was awesome. Good amount of meet, sauerkraut, and thousand island… meat tasted great and bread was awesome. The potato salad was warm with chives and basic seasoning but none the less quite tasty. My fiancé is a vegetarian so there werent many options but she enjoyed the grilled cheese. The ambiance was interesting. It is definitely a hole in the wall joint and they had a German radio station playing the whole time. That said the server was quick and responsive.

I’ve been here several times for lunch and haven’t been disappointed. Each time the place has been relatively empty, but the folks that have been there seem to be regulars. Service has been great each time. They have a great selection of authentic German items and each time our server has made recommendations and reviewed their specials. I’ve had their pork and chicken schnitzel, pulled pork — skip the fries and get the potato salad! I look forward to trying dinner soon!

This place has a solid menu of German classics and American standards to please the local folks. They make a darned good pork schnitzel. They make chicken schnitzels as a special sometimes. I have not seen the Austrian style round dumplings, but they do offer an affordable authentic German meal for those looking for something that they might get in Bavaria. Parking in back. Credit Cards accepted.
