Wish I could give this place a good review, but I can’t. As soon as I walked in, the bartender looked at me like I had no business coming in. She was extremely standoffish! Kind of felt like i should have just turned around and left. At least what I ordered tasted okay(though the tacos were cold and the really greasy), but I definitely won’t be back!!!

I was unimpressed with El Sobo, I was excited when it was opening in my area and looked to be a decent taco spot. Upon arriving I was greeted coldly by the waitress who just seemed distracted by something. The menu is odd, there were no tacos on the menu… I went there specifically for tacos Oh well I’ll order something off there menu. the prices were expensive but I took a gamble. It didn’t pay off the food was bland took forever to get to the table, waitress never gave a refill on drinks. I found the tacos in the end they had it written in chalk on the wall of the different ones they had, sadly my back was turned to the sign when I was ordering. The hunt for good Mexican continues.

NEWREVIEW: New cook, I’ll go far enough to say this man is a chef. He knows food, he cares. This place is going full 180. I brought my fiancé this time and she is picky with going out for food and she loved it. Not saying you will as well. But give this place another chance if you didn’t like it before. You will at least like it now, maybe even love it. The bartender was attentive, smart, funny, and played some nice easy listening music. She knew the menu very well and didn’t even have to look to know what was in everything. El Sobo Tacos is stepping their game up, heavy! If you’re not looking to spend $ 90 dollars before tip for takeout at Margaritas, save time, money, and your health at El Sobos. And make sure Kyle is behind the line, he’s gonna rocko your taco!

What a joke. How can you mess up a taco salad? Well, I found out. I ordered to go and in a 10 minute drive was COMPLETELY cold. Pork and chicken dry and cold with no taste. Giant scoops of sour cream with a spoonful of guacamole. Processed cheese cold and completely unmelted on top. $ 12 each? Get real. How can you expect to stay open with Loco Coco just up the road in Kittery? Save the reputation of the town block business community and either close the doors or start caring about the customers you serve. I tend to believe the poor reviews previous to mine now whereas I didn’t know before wasting my money here.

We just moved here so I’ve only been once and I’ve only tried the quesadilla but it was delicious! Super cheesy and yummy. Can’t wait to go again!

So I live local now… I ordered Dos Tacos… the menu listed 2 tacos, rice, beans… I got 1 taco — nothing else… It was a to go order and I was super busy– no time to drive back… But the flavor was nice — but $ 12 for one small taco– please!!! The guacamole was tasteless but they gave you plenty… they need to get themselves together — potential but I don’t think I will return.

SO terrible. We ordered food to go and live right down the road, one minute from the restaurant and somehow the food was ice cold. The cheese never having been melted on most dishes, on others, the cheese was not melted in the center and burnt around the edges. Which is actually so terrible that it’s actually impressive that someone managed to mess up that badly. I had a taco salad with chicken which was supposed to have the dressing on the side – a standard any self respecting restaurant will do on any to-go salad as to not make everything soggy –well the dressing was everywhere. Said dressing tasted like foot soaked tequila mixed with cheap imitation lime. The nachos were deplorable, and looked like something a child would throw together with mud and shaving cream. The cheese was not melted, there was no salsa and it seriously looked like someone tried to hide their nacho pile of shame with a bucket of sour cream. The chicken enchiladas were inedible, I’ll post a picture and you’ll see why. It looks like some lumpy dookie with half cold/half overdone cheese, the beans piled high in what I can only explain as a pile of what diarrhea would look like if you overcooked it. There was no rice as the menu states(which at the rate we’re going might have been a blessing in disguise). Just a small container of fucking sour cream because when in doubt, cover your disgrace in that. My husband reported that the shrimp tacos were«okay» and he honestly will eat a pile of French fries covered in bleu cheese, ketchup, and bacon and call that an «okay» meal, so I’ll let you decide what that means. He did say the shrimp tacos were ice cold, which you’d think the shrimp would be warm at least. NOPE. Overall everything was PIGDISGUSTING and if we ever get desperate enough for a shitty meal, next time we’ll eat the French fries with bleu cheese, ketchup, and bacon. This place should be ashamed of themselves. I sincerely hope that they cook in the dark, as that would be the only acceptable reason for this slop to look and taste the way it did and also so the employees wouldn’t have to make eye contact with each other as they degrade themselves for contributing to this disgraceful food.

I never write reviews for anything. Ever. This place is absolutely amazing. I had heard they switched up their menu, but WOW! My daughter never finishes any meal. Her plate was clean. Here are my selection suggestions: Mango jalapeño maragarita Cajun fish taco w/chipotle mayo & mango salsa ANYTHING w/sriracha aioli Fried homemade churros for dessert If you love Mexican or just want to try something other than pizza and burgers, definitely give this place your business. We were not one bit disappointed!

My friend Lori called me from the bar and asked me to meet her for lunch today and I’m glad she did. I hadn’t had a chance to check the place out yet. When I walked in I was pleasantly surprised at the brightly colored warm and friendly atmosphere of the place. Lynn the bartender was welcoming and immediately brought over a glass of iced tea. Too early for cocktails but I’ll be back for those another time. The chicken burrito I ordered was huge and came with yummy guacamole, salsa and sour cream, beans and rice and refried beans — my favorite. I asked for hot sauce and was jolted into a new reality by the tasty smoky homemade hot sauce. Yum! Music played in the background, there were a few parties at tables and others at the bar enjoying their meal. A nice addition to our little town is El Sobo. I’ll be back for the jalapeño poppers and a few margaritas!

This place has only been open for 3 months and it will most certainly be closed within the next 3 months. The restaurant was completely empty on a Friday evening(I was the only customer), and for a good reason. Soccer moms having their weekly Taco night can make better tacos than the ones served here. The taste was no different than your standard El Paso or Taco Bell seasoning, and the tacos themselves were incredulously SLOPPY. The mango salsa was not an actual salsa, but just cut up fruit on top of your taco. No acidity whatsoever. The tortillas were soggy and were most certainly the great value brand. I paid $ 10.90 for 3 tacos, which is a competitive price for exquisite restaurant made tacos. I feel like I should have just gone to Taco Bell, those are sadly better, and for less than half the price that this Wigwam of an establishment charges.

We tried El Sobo’s out today, what a MISTAKE! where do I start? The waitress acted like we were interrupting her day and was unpleasant. The music was a loud dance rap style COMPLETELY inappropriate for a Mexican restaurant. We had taco’s and a drink. First off the chips and salsa were from a grocery store, The taco’s were ground beef with taco seasoning like you make at home. NOCHEESE! it did however have pieces of some kind of fruit(yuck). The rice was overcooked and starchy. We had a mojito and it was small and lacking any alcohol. We paid our bill and ran for the door… Save your money and go to Taco Bell!

Lunch stop for five and everyone agreed: Good food, reasonable service, unfortunate ambience. In reverse… indoors was empty, dark, and loud with rock so we went outside, where near-constant traffic(dump trucks, semis, motorcycles, and the usual) often crushed the conversation; this is a busy intersection. The small staff was friendly and attentive. Selections were few but adequate, though the two-sided menu(lunch/dinner almost the same) confused more than one of us. Our two questions both elicited disappointing responses: 1) What are«cactus vegetables»? Zucchini, pepper, red onion. 2) Are the taco shells corn or flour? Corn.(Sure seemed like flour — a GF debacle.) Salads and burrito drew universal praise and tacos got high marks. We can’t speak to authenticity, but everything was eminently edible.(The salsa, however, was watery and hot, not rich and complex.) Oversize portions meant we could have split meals and cut cost – next time. We hear this place is owned together with neighboring Isidore, but there’s no food crossover despite the Isidore menu including this place’s selections… for information/promotion only. Both restaurants seem to almost«get it,» but rather than dance to the peak they get clumsy.

This place is recently opened where On the Block Bistro had been. The menu is not expansive but certainly sufficient. We had almost everything on the menu in our party… jalapeño poppers, quesadilla, chimichangas, taco salad, burrito, tacos, beer and margarita. The food was very good, no complaints from anyone. The margarita used a citrus infused tequila and was delicious. The fish taco could have used more fish and the beef taco could have been a little better drained but they were both tasty. The jalapeño poppers were like nothing I’ve had before… clearly hand made, not the prepackaged things one usually is served. These were in a thicker breading(corn meal maybe?) and it was the whole pepper. Very very good. The salsa tasted fresh as well. At the end of the meal my son asked the table if the restaurant was a keeper or sweeper? The vote was unanimous, definitely a keeper. Glad to have another restaurant in South Berwick and look forward to coming back.
