An ancient old house serves as restaurant. Sat in window cove area. Had excellent service, wine and food. Everything on menu looked great. A little pricey, but it is New York!

This is a great place to get brunch, I had Apfelpfannkuchen and an amazing cup of coffee. The servers are warm and friendly. I also learned they will be open on weekends for brunch. I would recommend making reservations.

Had a lovely dinner here after spending an afternoon splashing around Grimes Glen in Naples. If you can get in(seating is limited and they close at 9 pm), the food is fresh, local, seasonal and beautiful. We took the last table for two on the porch. There is also indoor seating, but it was a really nice night and every other diner was on the porch — so we didn’t want to be isolated inside. Note — they have blankets for when the sun goes down and the air turns chilly — we didn’t know to ask, but for next time… My husband ordered the burger — a blend of pork and beef with cheddar cheese, bacon and a quail egg — it looked great, but the meat was lean, and as a result the ‘medium’ temp was a little dry. It was served with mashed potatoes, which was kind of a surprise — they were creamy and well seasoned, but it would have been nice to have an option to sub the spuds for a salad. We’ll ask next time. I ordered the pizza of the day — local, organic shiitakes, mozzarella, garlic oil, fresh arugula and a balsamic glaze — it smelled and tasted great, but the thin crust could have been charred just a little more for my taste. Still, the combination was great — AND I was so happy it did NOT have truffle oil added, which seems to be the default for anything ‘mushroom’ at most other places focusing on fresh/local/seasonal. We took recommendations for local finger lakes wines to compliment our meals and were not disappointed. Service and conversation with Trish, the owner, were also great, and made the atmosphere seem warm and homey. Definitely a place we will return to. At present they are located on Rt 64 in what I would call Bristol, with plenty of parking, but are looking to move — so check their website for their location before heading out there. And since seating is limited, consider reservations too.

Everything I have had has been absolutely stellar. I would drive from Rochester just to take my family to eat there. I normally order two or three things just for me so I have some food to take home and share with family, and I’ve never done that before yet I do that everyone I eat here. It’s that good. Personally I cannot remember how it’s spelled but the German Apple pancake thingy perfection and I also enjoy the grape mimosa is great too, love the fact that the ingredients used are all local. one thing I would recommend someone doing is due to the cute size of the place call ahead! Never poor service, everyone is friendly. Worth the drive from wherever and seriously Doing yourself a disservice by not coming here.

Me and six friends went to dinner last night for their new years eve pre fixed meal. I have been here for breakfast and really enjoyed what I had, but this menu was delicious! There were 4 courses, I had the lobster bisque, scallops, lamb ravioli, venison and lobster tail and i feel like there was something else that I ate too. Everything was delicious! I was really nervous to have the venison since I am not a big fan of that at all! Usually venison taste very gamey to me, but this was cooked so perfect and it tasted just like steak! The staff at the restaurant is amazing and so friendly. Over all, we had a wonderful time and the food was delicious! Oh I forgot the dessert was a hazelnut lava cake, with ice cream… wow, this was perfect!!! I was mad that my boyfriend didn’t get dessert, I wanted to eat his piece too! If you are ever out in the area, definitely stop and treat yourself to great food and very welcoming staff!

Excellent food, friendly service! A bit steep on the prices vs. portions but the flavors were spot on. Highly recommended!

Highly recommended! — Fantastic food in a casual/quaint atmosphere, reasonable prices, and great service from nice people. My wife and I particularly enjoy brunch — lot’s of choices including scrambles, crepes, stuffed french toast, and even burgers for the less adventurous. For dinner we often enjoy the Beef Wellington. There are usually interesting specials as well. Be sure to call ahead to reserve a table — there’s not much seating.

This place is bad. The food may be good depending on who the grovel that runs the place has decided to hire for chef this month, but the service is so so the décor is repulsive and and there’s got to be very high turnover because the brown hound has an absolute lack of identity, and a commitment to inconsistency. Eat here and you may be just another duped diner. Buyers remorse is likely…

unfortunately, I never got to sit down at brown hound bistro. this place seems to be a candidate for Gordon Ramsey’s kitchen nightmares. in the 40 minutes I was inside waiting for my my 7:45 reservation that had come and passed, I witnessed staff bicker in front of us about dishes that had not come out, as well as a few other exchanges that I don’t consider to be very professional at a Friday night dinner service. The food looked good, however, after our table was given away(to which the wait staff turned away and whispered over this as we stood there uncomfortably for 3 minutes waiting for any sort of response) instead of apologizing or updating us as to when we would be seated, we stood there looking around until we had to ask if we could have a drink at the bar. I actually felt like an annoyance to the women huddled over the reservation list. It then took 5 minutes to pour two glasses of Riesling at this«bar» which was in front of a prep station where a worried looking women took orders from an agitated waitress that we all could hear… it seems this place suffers from operational problems. our table that they clearly gave away(who had been seated waiting for wait service) came over to the bar and complained to the waitress saying«did you forget about us? no one had been to our table yet for 20 minutes.» this was our cue to leave. I gave a last try asking when a table might be ready for us, to which the waitress pointed into the dining room at a table of patrons eating dessert saying coldly«I’m waiting for that table to leave.» good thing brews and brats is in walking distance. no drama, just great sausage and friendly people — go there instead and make it easy on yourself.

Brown Hound catered my wedding this summer. We had about 110 guests. They did a fabulous job. We asked for mostly vegetarian, local and organic food. The menu was create and seasonally inspired. The wedding was located at a barn in the country with very little facilities but they brought their own grill and all the things they would need to prepare an amazing meal. All of my guests commented about how much they loved the food. Every option was really fabulous and guests had generous portions so that they felt full after we ate. We had grilled salmon for the main entrée. This was perfectly cooked and delicious. For vegans we had seitan skewers that were nicely flavored. Salads included a delicious corn and tomato salad, roasted potatoes and a quinoa salad. I even had many meat eater guests that were initially skeptical about the mostly vegetarian/vegan meal but even these friends praised the meal and said they were pleasantly surprised. The service was also great. The crew was professional and efficient but also flexible throughout the day as we had some changes in scheduling. I would highly recommend Brown Hound to someone who really cares about good quality, locally inspired food.

Very quaint and intimate restaurant. The service was excellent and the food was fantastic. I had scallops and my lovely GF had the tuna. We shared the soup and that was also very good. I recommend reservations as it is a small place and quite popular.

Went here for brunch and l mostly liked it though I must say that lemon slices may be fine for water but lemon wedges are required for a proper iced tea. You can’t very well squeeze a thin slice as you can a wedge, now can you? And I, for one, enjoy a refreshing spritz of lemon juice with my brisk refreshment. The local cheddar in my Wild Bill omelette needed some sharpness, the bacon was a tad burnt and the banana peppers a wussy substitute for the hot cherry or jalapeño peppers Wild Bill would have demanded but all in all a good portion and well presented in a white tablecloth setting. I had dinner here some months back and was disappointed however – an app of raw mushrooms filled with cream cheese of various pastel hues and a tough-as-a-boar loin of boar – but I’m hoping that was an off night so i’m leaving that out pending another visit.

After our rocking wedding my husband and I took a «mini-moon» trip to the Canandaigua area. Being such a hardcore food lover I had already begun to research the places where we would eat! Brown Hound did not show up on my radar. It isn’t in Canandaigua but about 20 minutes south of town. It’s an adorable house converted to a restaurant on a pretty country road. Our Innkeeper at our B&B highly recommended this spot. I checked out the menu and was intrigued. We came on a Monday night and most of the restaurant was full. We started with a couple glasses of Finger Lakes area wines and the gnocchi — it had local shiitake mushrooms, mascarpone cheese and herbs. I believe there was some crisped sage that I ate like a tiny, delicious potato chip. The gnocchi were perfectly pillowy and the sauce had just the right amount of richness. I only wish there had been more! For our entrees I got the sweet grass chicken. It was perfectly cooked, had a nice crisped layer with just enough fattiness. It came with some very smooth mashed potatoes and super delicious red swiss chard with mushrooms. It was an excellent, comforting dish. My husband ordered the seared scallops. It came along with some local sweet corn in a creamy sauce and a hasselback potato. Some of his scallops were a bit overcooked, which was disappointing. The corn was incredibly fresh and sweet tasting, especially for the beginning of September. We each enjoyed our own dessert(him– lava cake, me– tiramisu) with some coffee and tea. Then left with our bellies so unsexily overstuffed! I had another glass of wine with my dinner and fell in love with it. So much so that our last day in town we went on a wild goose chase for a bottle. We even trekked down to the tasting room in Naples and yet we couldn’t find it. I called the restaurant to make sure I was looking for the right thing. It was a 2010 and wasn’t available anywhere! We went back to Brown Hound to get a bottle to go and had a light early dinner before we headed home. I had a very tasty salad with local apples, goat cheese and a maple-shallot vinaigrette. We also shared some tortellini with brown butter and an amazing sweet corn filling. I just wish the waitress told us there were only 3… was a tough appetizer to share! If we ever find ourselves back in the area I am sure Brown Hound will be on our list of places to eat.

I don’t know what to say other than the 5 stars says it all! Food was outstanding — I had the lamb(which normally comes in a hazelnut sauce — but having a severe nut allergy I asked if they could prepare sans sauce — the chef was only too happy to oblige!). It was amazing! My wife had«grass fed chicken» — it was THE best chicken I had personally every tasted. Cooked to perfection. Appetizer of Ceaser Salad and Seafood Bisque was just as exquisite. Great atmosphere(we sat on the porch and it poured with rain but was awesome as we were well protected!). Outstanding service(thanks Courtney!!) and the rest of the staff were very polite. Overall an amazing dining experience and all under $ 100 with tip and wine to boot!!! This place is almost worth driving the 4 ½ hours from Pittsburgh just to go again. We WILL be back — no question.

Sad that I’m not the first to introduce the Brown Hound Bistro to Unilocalers the world over(but still glad that the name is out there). My girlfriend and I just got back from a wedding at Lake Canandaigua and found this spot. Food sounded delicious and the prices looked cheap so we checked it out. Twice. You’ll find it in what looks like a house with a covered patio out back. When we arrived, it was definitely a full house as the inner room and the outdoor patio was packed. Trish(the owner /chef) makes the place feel cozy by adding the little things like charming decorations, warmth of light, and live music. She even took the time to tell us about the history of the place and was all around very approachable and friendly. Dinner was a sushi-grade lightly-seared tuna with wild rice for her and pork chop with red potatoes and a local syrup glaze for me. Can’t speak for the fish but the pork chop was fantastic. Aside from being a very nice portion size, it was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. We then finished it all off with a strawberry-rhubarb pie for a nice touch of tart and sweet. Breakfast was even better. Blueberry«Mill» cakes, Cinnamon Bread French toast, eggs, sausage, and coffee. Sadly we couldn’t finish it all there but the toast was hearty enough to keep us going on the drive home.

We visited the Brown Hound on a Sunday night to celebrate the birthday of my girlfriend. This restaurant came recommended to us by the keepers at the Inn where we were staying. The restaurant itself is a small quaint place with a small number of tables and an intimate atmosphere. We were seated in this cute little alcove in the front that is situated in a bay window. The table was partially obscured from the rest of the restaurant by a rich curtain. The feel of the table was that of a private box at the theatre and made for a very romantic setting. The service was friendly, helpful and attentive without being intrusive. As it was fairly late on a Sunday, we were the only guests when we arrived(another party arrived later). That being said, I suspect on a Friday or Saturday reservations would be needed as seating is very limited. The food was excellent. Well prepared and delicious. We had skipped the appetizers and went straight for the entrée’s, having the Delmonico Steak and the Chilean Sea Bass. The steak was perfectly prepared and the starch was nearly identical to the mash potatoes I make(which I pride myself on and of course in my mind perfect :-)). We had ordered the petite cut of the sea bass, though it was the size of a full cut in most other establishments. Most of the food is grown locally, with a listing on the back of the menu. Even more impressive was the speed at which we received our food. In what seemed to be no time, our food was on the table, more amazing was the fact that none seemed to have been pre-prepared. All in all a wonderful dining experience.
