It’s too bad that the iconic Friendlys restaurant chain can’t maintain consistency at its various outlets. Granted, the South Hadley store doesn’t have the turnover that Holyoke or Chicopee has, but it’s no excuse for my latest visit. I went late for a breakfast and ordered eggs, toast and home fries. The home fries would have been decent but were cold. The eggs were not real warm as well, and it’s pretty hard to ruin scrambled eggs. The toast was disgusting! First of all, you have no choice of bread so it’s white bread. They gobbed so much butter onto the skinny slices of toast that it stood up in humps. Oh, and the toast was not real warm… surprised? The server was pleasant but I sat at a table next to the kitchen door, and could hear him and his coworkers partying it up as if the boss was away(and maybe she/he was) Oh Friendlys what’s happened to your standards?

I love the fact that they dug the old booths from 1976 out of a dumpster somewhere and redesigned their place. You gotta give Friendly’s 5 stars for their ice cream, Cone Heads and strawberry Fribbles. Although, one time I went to Friendly’s with a buddy of mine for ice cream and nobody ever hopped to and waited on us. I guess there was an ice cream social going on in the back room. Anyways, I do remember their quarter game where you dropped 25 cents into a jug of water and tried to guide it with your mind into a shot glass. What ever happened to that peg game? Why not bring those back? I guess everyone is on their phones these days. Their burgers are good but last time I got a burger to go I was eating it and a Friendly’s commercial came on to advertise a $ 5 bacon burger. You mean I paid $ 10 for mine and got no bacon. I felt ripped off. They should probably mention that to you when you call them up. «Hello, this is Friendly’s where this month we have a $ 5 Bacon Burger, what would you like?» Bacon, Burger? Yes, put me down for one of those and a Strawberry Fribble. Now that’s a $ 10 score.

Walked in today with my husband and two small children to what appeared a nice clean environment. After waiting two or three minutes we were finally told by a waiter to follow him to a table in the back. He did not seem happy and did not offer a high chair for the baby. To be truthful he never even showed us where they high chairs were either. After getting a high chair ourselves we sat down to find a mess of food and crumbs from a previous party under our table. I expect a small mess in chain restaurants but this was ridiculous. We were told our waitress would be with us in a moment and after 10 minutes no one had come to even introduce themselves. We watched two other parties enter and be seated and one of those parties was attended to right away. Needless to say we left and will not be returning. plenty of other local business around this particular area to spend money at.

It’s a giant chain what can you say. It’s like denny’s but a bit more local. The portions are sickenly large and the staff isn’t exactly excited to be there. Lots of food for such a small price that you begin to wonder what exactly they are putting in the food… Wouldn’t go back.

I’ve been to this location many times & it’s always been terrible. Wether it’s busy or not you will wait a minimum 20 minutes for ice cream at the takeout window. The turn over rate for waitresses is outstanding. I don’t think I ever saw the same waiteress twice. Knowing this I began to call & order ahead thinking I wouldn’t have to wait as long. Boy was I ever wrong. The second to last time I went, I called and ordered a Reese’s Pieces Ice Cream Sundae. After waiting about 25 minutes for the sundae I had called ahead for, I received a sundae that did not have Reese’s or hot fudge. Seriously? I called and spoke to a waiteress & told her about it. She told me a manager had made the sundae. Seriously? I was asked if I wanted to come back for another, and I declined because I wasn’t about to wait another 20 minutes for them to fix my sundae. The girl took my name and told me the next time I came in my sundae would be free. Two weeks later I came in & requested my free sundae. What do you know? The manager(a smarmy looking man with gold chains & chest hair on display who seemed to be more interested in flirting with the teenage girls that worked there than actually managing) had no idea what I was taking about & said he had never heard of me. He was trying to get me to pay for my sundae which I refused to do. He was pretty much insinuating that I was making it up because he never heard of this(yeah, he seemed real on top of everything going on there). He finally relented when it became obvious that not only was I not going to pay for my sundae but I was going to get louder & louder with each minute that I had to wait. It’s 2 minutes away from my house but I haven’t been back since just because of the way the manager tried to dismiss me & make me feel like I was pulling a scam to get a free sundae. Get it together Friendly’s! This is why you are almost bankrupt! I recommend that you review you hiring and training process for staff across the board because it’s piss poor no matter what location you go to.

This was the most dirty and waitress unfriendly place I have ever been to, and I have been to thousands of restaurants around the world. On a Saturday nite, 6PM, in March 2011, the tables were covered with dirty dishes, the kitchen floor was covered with rubbish, the«waitresses» congregarted in the kitchen to chat. Customers were not served. The food was unapetising on the plates. The waitress did not take criticism well and suggested that we contact national, which I did, and got no response. Their only interst was take-out orders. Suprised this store has not closed. Disgusting place. I will never go to another Friendly after experienceing this one and the lack of response by national.

A great place to take kids, but not the most exciting of culinary experiences. And I can’t believe how expensive the burgers have gotten. But Friendly’s is known for their ice cream, and build-your-own sundaes are always fun for my 9-year-old son. It has become a tradition to celebrate a baseball or basketball season here, or the end of the school year.

Come on it’s Friendly’s. Friendly’s is friggin sweet. Towering Fr-onions as an app and a delicious chicken sandwich with a sundae for desert. You can’t go wrong. And it’s right next to a video store so you can rent something to watch while you go home to sit on the couch and digest.
