Stopped in for lunch but walked out before we ever got any. The salty woman behind the counter was so completely unhelpful it completely put us off and we walked out. All we were asking for was a little platter of sorts with a sampling of their deli salads. All we heard from her was ‘we don’t do that’, no matter how we tried to phrase/order it, and even though we watched someone order it — successfully — immediately before us. Too bad — food looked good, but we will never set foot in there again.

A sandwich with«sliced turkey breast» apparently doesn’t mean roasted turkey – sliced – like it would on any other menu. Despite the fact that every other sandwich description on their menu lists just«turkey» as an ingredient. Went there to pick up sandwiches and now can’t eat, because I’m pregnant and cannot eat deli meat. Will have to now drive back to get a refund and return this inaccurately described sandwich because it might give me listeria. Sorry Tailgate but you lost my business for good. Sloppy.

I was at a field hockey clinic at Mount Holyoke recently and stopped in here to get my daughter some food for lunch. Now, my daughter is a picky eater, but finding her food at a deli is always easy… and I thought this was going to be a slam dunk. Because I didn’t ASK her what she wanted I picked her up an order of chicken fingers and a turkey, cheese and lettuce sandwich(yes, THE most boring sandwich in the world). I was going someplace else for myself, but as I looked over the menu I was intrigued. It all looked delicious, but the place is pretty pricey. I come from the land of a million deli’s and if a place in NJ charged some of the priced this place was charging they’d never make it. Maybe they do ok because they have the captive Mount Holyoke students right there, but it’s a bit expensive. The service was slow and other than the cashier(who was very nice) the other employees were on the verge of rude. Anyway, back to the food — my daughter was NOT a fan. The chicken fingers were disgusting(her words) to the point where she threw 4 of the 5 in the trash-just not good. She said her sandwich was just ok… the roll was a little stale and there wasn’t a lot of turkey on the sandwich. The only reason this place gets 2 stars is because I would need a second visit to do that… I’m not gonna kill them for a single trip there… could have been a bad day.

this place serves a bunch of crappy food, weak coffee, and snacks made by a disgruntled staff, muffins are from a tub of dough, bagels bought froZen and not even good ones, all ingredients from sysco, no imagination in a prime location which could actually host a nice shop – something south hadley desperately needs.

Very cheap food. I ordered the chicken tender samich, first at bat, mushy chicken tenders, not brown or even crispy, just a frozen/bland taste. Bread is good, but the place(like the whole town of south Hadley) needs a makeover, dated and they need to hire friendlier employees.

I love this place. If only there were a Tailgate Picnic close to me, I’d be there everyday. Instead I come to Tailgate once every few months when I’m in the area. It’s my saving grace(you try finding Gluten-Free options in the Chicopee/SH area). Tailgate offers a delicious gluten free bread that truly rocks my world. It had been so long since I had a BLT, a turkey club, an egg sandwich. And this isn’t your average sandwich, Tailgate’s are superb. I love the creativity and the options. The staff is super friendly too. They also have a neat general store, where you can grab local food, cookies, chips, etc. Their coffee is good as well!

Love this place and have been coming here for years. Sandwiches and salads are always fresh, there’s a decent selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and by the way, the owners are nice people. Chances are they have to charge a decent amount for a sandwich because rent at the Village Commons is ridiculous. To the reviewer that ordered«ham and pickle», your review was good for a laugh! This is an actual type of sandwich, probably only common in New England. It’s chopped ham and chopped pickle with mayo and maybe some seasonings. It is a «thing».

I usually come here when traveling through to get a snack or two, because they have the best selection of munchies in both organic and gluten free and popular brands that anybody could ask for. They also have bottled beer, and one of my favorites is Purple Monkey Dishwasher, and this is about the only place you can find it. As far as the food goes, I have never gotten anything but the most delicious creation. I had a panini today with cranberry sauce and Turkey and stuffing. There’s always plenty of substance to the sandwiches, and numerous ways to alter your sandwich to make it even better, although I have found that I have not needed to do that. They also have one of my favorite coffees, Shelburne Falls roasters I believe. Mmmmm.

Delicious affordable and local breakfast. This place was my go to spot every morning for a few years when I worked in South Hadley. Everyone who works there is very efficient and always knew my order as soon as I walked in. Not only can you get delicious food but you can also sample a great selection of wine and seasonal snacks like maple sugar candy and homemade pastries. Mmmm! There is plenty of searing inside and outside in the summer. The location is right next to odyssey bookstore in the South Hadley Commons.

The baked goods are amazing. Not sure about the lunch menu yet — haven’t tried it yet. The customer service is mediocre — the girls working at the deli counter were not so friendly or welcoming. My husband and I bought a salad to take to a holiday party — very good. The young lady who cashed us out was very nice and helpful. Something tells me that if this place got some better help, they’d be unstoppable. I’m sure the attitude of some of the employees is what keeps people away.

For the prices they have, I really expected some quality food. I ordered a «ham and pickle,» which, as a first timer, I thought would be a ham sandwich with a pickle on it. BOY was I wrong!(and maybe they should have clarified the SLOP that I just ordered?) It was basically cut up spam with RELISH in it. I took one bite and spit it across the room it was so gross. I think it was around 8 or 9 dollars, too. Another thing, the cashier(older woman) was SORUDE! I was really caught off guard by her while I was checking out. I’m grossed out even thinking about this place, and I for sure won’t be going back.

Excellent sandwiches and the spicy chicken fingers are awesome. Prices are decent and portions are large, they have delicious muffins as well! I highly suggest the lemon poppyseed! Sell beer and wine as well as crackers, chips, snack foods, etc etc. Great outdoor spot to sit and enjoy the sun!

I have been coming here for almost 20 years. The reason I keep coming back is good, consistent food. If I order a sandwich here I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it will taste the same as the first time I had it. The only reason I only give it 4 stars is because it can be a bit overpriced.

Tailgate clearly has a monopoly and they know it. There are no other deli’s in the nearby vicinity and their prices show it. They charge I’d say $ 1 – 2 more than other places would for each item. Get a sandwich, drink, and chips and you’re forking out an additional $ 5 for the convenience. But hey I’m a pretty captive audience here so I go there occasionally. I appreciate that they take mount holyoke one card. The food is decent nothing extraordinary the seating is nice and they carry a nice selection of things. Go if you need food and are in the area but it’s not exactly a bargain. Also people aren’t exactly friendly here. I’ve seen and interacted with the employees maybe 50x and they still don’t smile at me…

Ate here a few times and it was very good. The outside seating is nice on a warm day. The last time we were here(about 3 weeks ago), we were about to order our food, when we observed a young woman behind the deli making sandwiches coughing a lot, she was visibly ill and was coughing all over the food she was preparing. Sick people do not belong anywhere near food preparations! We also saw a girl sweeping the floor who was called to the deli to help… she did not wash her hands and just went right to work preparing sandwiches! Very disappointed because until that day we really enjoyed stoping in for a sandwich while out doing errands. We walked out that day and won’t be back!

This place can be good, sure, I liked the turkey club, but the problems I’ve had here are inexcusable, and the management has never done anything about it. One time I came, and my total should’ve been around $ 11.00, I was charged over $ 1000. Yeah, over a thousand dollars. I don’t know who closed that day, and didn’t catch it, they didn’t fix the problem, I found the error myself and called, and they weren’t remotely apologetic. I was still charged the $ 11.00, but whatever. I figured I’d give it a try again today, ordered two turkey clubs and a chicken soup, got two chicken clubs and a pint of noodles with no joke, less than a cup of broth. The chicken tasted like it was cooked, frozen, and then reheated. It was awful. I won’t be coming back.

This is exactly what’s missing in Amherst: a classic deli experience. Can pretty much get any kind of sandwich you want or choose from their own specialty subs. Great selection of drinks and chips. Broccoli cheddar soup is phenomenal. Great place to pop in and take a quick break from your day.

My favorite deli. I love the zippidy do da. I have never had a bad meal from here, everything is always fresh a delicious and the portions are pretty good for the price you pay. This is a great place to stop in for lunch, you can eat it there or get it to go.

Most unfriendly staff I’ve ever seen — be prepared to be completely ignored and feel out of place(whether it’s busy or not) — I don’t care how good the food is, I won’t be back
