I have visited this place twice now. The first time was a little interesting. There were three people in the shop — a guy who was there before me and quite agitated, he had called ahead and they didn’t get his order right. The women accidentally addressed the man who just entered the shop instead of me, she then joked about how she wasn’t calling me a man — we had a little laugh. They ended up messing up my order with the man behind me who ordered bacon on his and I got sausage — she just swapped out the meats and called it good. I didn’t care — it just made me wonder if they had it all together. Other than the mess up in the shop, the first bite of my everything bagel with sausage egg and cheese was yummy but unfortunately I didn’t actually get to eat much more than that! We were on a schedule to get a new car before going to bed for the day, so it set it down and started driving to St. Albans since I’m not much of a fan of eating and driving. We both had just gotten out of work and since we work all night, we sleep most of the day away. After driving the new car home — I popped the bagel sandwich in the microwave, brought it over to my desk where it promptly slid off the uneven books I had mistakenly put the plate on top off. I cried out«Noooooooo!» With much disappointment and sadness in my heart, I just went to bed soon after. Second visit was less eventful in the shop and at home. I was the first customer of the day and my food was made perfectly. I got a Montréal spice bagel with veggie cream cheese and a sausage egg and cheese on everything. My main complaint here was the Montréal bagel had enough salt to hurt my lips and make them string! I enjoyed the flavor of the bagel despite the salty problem and the wonderful taste and freshness of the cream cheese. The sandwich was good too! I’ll probably stop by again someday soon!

So this bagel place is not like a bagel place in New Jersey, but it is a great spot to get fresh delicious homemade bagels. They have a great selection of toppings to choose from. The menu is limited to pretty much bagels and a few other pieces of bread. Great stop when traveling to or from New York/Vermont. I just wish they were open past 2PM.

Respectable bagels for a reasonable price. This is primarily a small pick-up to go place but they are pretty well organized in taking orders and moving the line along when busy. This place would be 5 stars ‘for the area’ but only 4 stars ‘worldwide’ — still very respectable!

These are bagels and customer service that is «good enough to turn around for». I say that I bit tongue-in-cheek as I have literally gone past on my daily commute, thought better of it, and turned around to have breakfast bagel. I recently relocated to VT from the nether-regions of the South and have been craving a great bagel everyday for about the last 19-years that I lived below the Mason-Dixson line. I commute on the ferry daily between VT and NY and literally ride by Wally’s Place twice a day. One day about two months ago I decided to stop in. What an incredible treat. First, I met one of the most invested and passionate employees I have ever seen. Her name is Emily and she just flat loves to bake. She is passionate about making the best bagel possible and rises each day to be at work far before the sun comes up to create these wonderful bagels and specialty breads. I have come to know her a bit better over the past few months and I can say that she represents the owners exceptionally well. Obviously well-skilled in baking, but also pleasant, professional and friendly. The bagels come in about 10 –12 or so flavors each day and they are prepared the«old-fashioned» NY way. Beautifully crafted and they are remarkable. Just the right amount of crustiness and the chew and bite you want in a genuine bagel. They have a variety of cream cheese spreads(my favorite is the veggie which I suspect is house-made) and will build a bagel sandwich any way you would like using quality ingredients. The prices are more than reasonable and a great value for what you get. Don’t pass this place by — remember — «It’s not what is on the outside, but rather what’s on the inside that counts». The building is rather nondescript but the bagels and breakfast sandwiches are to die for. Do yourself a favor and stop in to see Emily and the wonderful folks at Wally’s Place — you’ll be glad you did.

I drove about 30 miles to Wally’s to get a bagel this morning. Had been here about 8 years ago and was hoping it was still a great spot. And it is. Everything bagel and cream cheese was delicious. We live in Brooklyn and know a thing or two about bagels. Wally’s does a great job. Other terrific local items here too. Didn’t taste the eggs… but they offering local eggs and egg sandwiches.

Delicious breakfast sandwiches. They make all their bread in house, including GF, and they disclose appropriately how they do it. Wish we knew about it earlier in the trip!

My fiancé and I went camping nearby, and decided to get breakfast here one day instead of cooking some eggs ourselves over a fire. I ended up having one of the best breakfast sandwiches of my life, on a really soft and delicious bagel. We ended up coming back for more before our trip was over. Like most other reviewers here, highly recommended.

I absolutely love Wally’s and come here every time I’m in Vermont. We like to camp at Grand Isle state park and always make a stop here. Delicious handmade bagels that are the perfect chewy texture. Veggie cream cheese is to die for. Nice sandwich combinations too. Self-serve coffee and tea and a nice selection of bottles beverages.

Their bagels are always fresh and the staff is always greeting with a smile. This is a staple place for me when taking the ferry. While I have never had their lunch sandwiches a day only stuck with the bagel sandwiches I know that they will be around for a long long time.

Every summer we come out to South Hero and one of the things I look forward to the most is a breakfast sandwich from Wally’s after a nice bike ride or a morning jog. The Contender is a classic but this time I got a Back Burner on the Bagel of the Day — Sriracha Cheddar. Out of the ballpark. It was amazing. There’s no other place as local and friendly on the island so chances are there will be a rush and the staff will be swamped but the wait is worth it. Located directly next to the Green Frog this place is a perfect place to stop off on your way in or out of South Hero. Get some souvenirs next door, too! But be aware, they specialize in breakfast so they have early closing times — 2PM. They also have wonderful cookies and cinnamon rolls but be careful! These delicacies will crush in your bag. And here’s a tip — if you have a lot of recycling, there’s a bottle bank next door that can help pay for your breakfast!

Sure, it’s the closest place you’ll find a bagel on the island, but you’ll be pleasantly surprised. They make delicious, gourmet, creative, and tasty concoctions. I usually get the Veggie Way but this was time it was really greasy… Good ol’ Matt isn’t there, disappointingly. He would make up anything you’d ask. Being a vegetarian from California I was stoked when he pulled out some Sriaracha for me. When I went in today the lady at the counter was not very nice, so I made sure to get my food to go. Can’t pinpoint why– but Wally’s has a special place in my family’s heart. It gets kinda packed during breakfast hours so get your food to go or plan to go during off hours. P. S. you’ll wanna grab a monster cookie to go!

We are originally from Long Island New York~ one of the bagel capitols of the world:) We now live in Tampa, Florida and although there are many things to love about Tampa, bagels are not one of them. We have a place in South Hero on Wally’s Point coincidentally and one of the highlights of our vacation is going to Wally’s for a bagel every morning! Laura Scarpinato Tampa, Florida

The reviews on Unilocal did NOT lead us astray… These bagels are fantastic! We stopped in on a Saturday morning on our way to the ferry and my entire family enjoyed their breakfast. We tried the jalapeño cheddar bagel, cranberry sunflower and the French toast. All of them were fresh and incredible; the cream cheese was also good, and not overflowing off the bagel which I greatly appreciate.

Don’t you dare drive by! This place is the bomb! Every time I take the ferry, I stop & order a dirty jersey on wheat everything. Oh. My. I get a thoughtfully crafted breakfast sandwich hot off the grill — in between 2 lightly toasted halves, slathered with ketchup, you’ll find perfectly fried eggs, juicy ham, 1 delicately placed, soft Slice of American cheese finished with a dust of pepper and salt. Mmmmm. They are a treasure trove up in the islands, tucked in the crossroads. Cozy & unique. Take the time to stop. They have a large variety of breakfast and lunch sandwiches.

Me, my wife, and some friends were in town for the Green Mountain marathon, and because I had foolishly overtrained and hurt my knee, I was left by myself, trying to find something to do while everybody else ran the race. So… South Hero… Not much to do here. Unilocal helpfully pointed out that Wally’s Place had bagels, coffee, and wifi. So I headed over there to do some work on my laptop. This turned out to be a great decision, because the bagels and coffee were delicious, and the whole time I sat there working, I was immersed in the aroma of baking bread and breakfast sandwiches. The locals clearly like this place as well. People came in steadily all morning. The dude working at the counter, Matt(the owner?), seemed to know everyone in town, and his staff were friendly and helpful. I took home a big bag of bagels, froze them, and I am still enjoying them a week later. It is mildly exasperating that I can get [much] better bagels in the middle of nowhere than I can back home. The only downside to Wally’s is that, despite the free wifi, it’s not really the best place to hang out with a laptop. There is only one stool at the counter, and no power outlets that I could find. But I’m OK with it… the food was great.

Breakfast bagels or lunch sandwiches from were here devoured three out of the six days we were camping at Grand Isle State Park. It was an unexpected find and we enjoyed everything we had from Wally’s. I have to agree with the other reviewer who said the bagels are fucking fantastic. The end :)

What can be said about Wally’s that hasn’t already been said. Not much. So, I’m going to say it again. Because what’s the point of Unilocal if not to have as many people as possible say the same thing about an eatery, right? Right. Something about assurance in numbers or some such twaddle. I’m sure there’s a white paper on it somewhere, or at least a wikipedia entry. So, Wally’s. Disclaimer: I’m not French, but occasionally I speak it. So if you’re at all offended by colourful language — please avert thine sensitive eyes, lest your puritanical self burst into flames. Or at the least, cover the eyes of thy loin fruit — unless they be old enough to sustain exposure to vulgar vocabulatories. SPOILERALERT: **** SHITBEFRENCHBELOWTHISPOINT. They are fantastic. Like tres bon. Magnifique even. Their bagels melt in your mouth like a boiled dough which once chewed thoroughly becomes very melty. Otherwise they don’t melt at all. What kind of bagel melts? Not one I want to eat — that’s for damned sure. I’m a fan of the Manhattan. Not that I have its autograph or anything, but I get it a lot. Probably 90% of the time it’ll be a Manhattan. The other 10% I like to mix it up. Because predictability is boring.(much like this review — sorry) If you don’t like bagels, then I’m not quite sure what you eat on your planet, but you should really go back there NOW, bagel hater. OR you could try the bialys, brownies, cinnamon buns, or their chocolate chip biscuits/cookies. You won’t be disappointed. South Hero might be the last place you’d expect to find a high class bagelery establishment but if you find yourself here, then pray to whatever gods you worship and thank them. Because as chance would have it, you’ve ended up in the absolute jewel in South Hero’s crown. Le personnel est assez merveilleux ainsi! Wally’s — Their bagels are fucking fantastic.

Bagels are actually better than anything in Burlington. Tiny place but great selection of fresh bagels. Cream cheeses taste fresh and the veggy doesn’t skimp on veggies. It’s in a bit of a busy spot off of Rte 2 and sharing a parking lot with the nearby gas station. But it makes for a great quick stop. I plan on trying their pizza on Fridays.
